I just tried something similar while camping. I had the same pump and a makita 18v battery. Only wire was about 8” of residential solid 12-2 and only tool was a pocket knife. One of the wires slipped and created a short and caused electrical smoke. Whoops. I’m glad to see I was on the right track with my McGyver hack job though lol

Thanks! This answers all of the questions I came here with. However... 20 A x 4.2 V = 84 Watts ... so what is going on there? :))

Great video ! I have the exact same pump. It is marked as 25W(atts). So I am puzzled as to how the unit could draw close to 20Amps given that the input voltage is just 4.5v. Any ideas?

I don't understand that either, shouldn't it be 5.556 amps

Would there be a way to make the pump go slower? Would decreasing the voltage help, or should I decrease the amount of current that goes through it? Could I put some type of potentiometer in between? I would like to use the pump to make some type of Powered Air Purifying Respirator. As the pump runs on less than 5V, I thought it might be useful. Any ideas?

I WILL BE GOING TO GET BATTERIES FOR MY WHEELCHAIR BUILD, WHAT POWER PACKS DO YOU THINK WILL GIVE ME THE MAX POWER? A motor on this raft will just rip off the rubber. But yeah, it'll be cool to jump the waves on this even just for a couple minutes! :D
So sorry to see you hospitalized. Get well soon. You've served all of us so we can enjoy the peace and freedom today. My hat's off to you, Joseph. Right on memorial day, too!
Regarding power packs, it depends on how far you want to go on it. If you don't go that far and have access to a wall outlet to charge your battery pack, I'd use the Kobalt 24V packs. Two of the 4Ah packs should be enough power. You can also hack the 2Ah packs and put 2 in parallel and that's $10 cheaper! :D You can use laptop cells but you'll need to put about 10 or more in parallel to get enough discharge current. You might not have enough room in your wheel chair for that many cells, though.

After you get the boat inflated, run the pump into the water to turn it into a jet motor. Ok maybe not.

Maybe not for an air pump but a submersible water pump will do.
