@@thesaint2517 Say the little PSU delivers 5 volts at 1 amp, that's 5 x 1 = 5 watts. So if you increase the output voltage to say 30 volts, then at 5 watts you can only draw 1/6 of 1 amp, i.e. about 160-odd milliamps, as 5/30, you do the maths...

When you look at this video on youtube: #49: Simple Component Tester using Oscilloscope - Octopus Curve Tracer (there are lots of these video's on youtube). Than you can easy measure components in a circuit. You can measure capacitors and chokes too! (but when you don't have the money for an oscilloscope, your project is fine!)

Just in case anyone watching this doesn't realise, the main reservoir capacitor at the mains input, after the rectifier, charges up to the PEAK of the mains voltage, approximately 1.4 times the incoming RMS voltage, and it can remain charged for some time after disconnection from the mains, so amateurs beware!
29 вольт на питание вольтметра явно много. И бездумно увеличивать стабилитрон по холодной стороне не стоит, а то блок может испустить волшебный дым. Задумка не плохая, но реализация хромает, по нормальному нужно перемотать вторичку транса, добавив ещё витков 10,тогда от старого отвода запитать вольтметр, а от нового + на испытательный щуп. . Делать нужно по уму, хотя примитивные методы и подкупают своей простотой реализации.

This is not a power supply and he didn’t do this video for this purpose. This is just a diode or led tester.

Use two Si Diodes in flow direction. This should work in most cases. But it depends on the used switch mode IC.

But what happens if you have a short circuit? For example, what if you bring the two ends together?
Then you will have 29 volts over the 10k resistor. Amps are voltage divided by resistance, equal to 29volts divided by 10.000 ohms = 2,9 mA max. 😁

The old one had too low voltage limit. Capacitance value has very minor effect here. There should be some capacitor for filtering the voltage level.
I think i have never seen so bad "cold soldering" before. You have to heat up the object to get a proper soldering. This was realy bad !

You can't increase the amperage of a charger. The entire thing would need redesigning. Find or buy a charger with a higher rating.
