- * I have been using this method for many, many years, without a single memory failure. There are many different ways to save your car memory when you change batteries, but this is the way I do it. Since I have had some auto and driving issues lately, I thought I would show you.
*This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*
Thanks. It definitely keeps the radio memory intact.
Actually most auto stores here in Canada sell these for $9.99. They use a 9v(included) which works fine. Been using them for years in my shop. Especially good for GMs with their radio lockout function. Glad to see you back, was getting worried.
I just got the 9v one off amazon that plugs into obd port under driver side dash to use on my lexus🤞🤞🤞
Thank you for the informative videos, a word of caution regarding the cigar lighter socket device, my own car is a modern European GM. The electrical system is Canbus and not sanctioned to be back driven lin that way, mine went crazy with flashing lights etc although it has done no apparent lasting harm. Much safer to do in the manner you showed at the battery...preferably from a fused backup device.
I was getting worried, good to hear from you again! Love your videos,Happy Memorial Day !
Be careful on some cars you can set off the air bags pushing power back thru the power /lighter port. One of the mechanics in the auto shop at Sears set one off in a Toyota Camry.
Great to hear from you again. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you.
My cigarette lighter memory saver never worked. But, I think the ignition switch must be on otherwise the cigarette lighter circuit isn't closed.
That is probably true, as it takes such a small amount of juice to keep the memory.
Great to see you making videos again Dave.
Nate
Great to see/hear from you Dave! I wish you well and hope all picks up soon! take care and thanks for all your great videos! Dont loose your memory! lol
Nice to hear from you Dave, you know,,, I really enjoy your videos and tips. Your cool. Keep on keepin on and take care. From all your followers in the uk.
Not just radio memory! My car has tons of computer settings for the navigation and other settings, seats and wheel positions, and codes for both radio and nav.
Many modern era cars have a lighter that is not hot when the ignition is off. So a 9 volt memory keeper that goes through the lighter will not save your settings.
Which is unbelievably dumb, considering that most people need the power when the car is off! Fortunately, there is a way around that, by installing a separate cigarette lighter through the car's interior fuse box, but, that's a discussion best left for another time and place!
Thats why my shop uses this www.amazon.com/dp/B07KCN69LJ?ref=myi_title_dp
First! Been waiting for you to "reappear". Happy Memorial Day, Dave!
Good video NightFlyyer.
By the way ... anybody ever tell you-you have a radio announcer's voice?
Actually I have and appreciate that. Never thought about a radio career though. Do people still know what a radio is? LOL Thanks much, Conrad!
I have a similar one that uses a 9v battery, very easy to use.
That's interesting. I tried a smaller battery, but when I opened the door, the dome lights killed the battery almost instantly. 9v is smaller than the 12 volt car battery so it would not last long in my opinion.
couldn't i just leave the battery charger connected to the car to keep the memory
No. Most modern chargers will not work unless connected to a battery, plus the amps and voltage from chargers are higher than required to keep memory safe in the car, but your welcome to try your way too. Thanks.
@@NightFlyyer thanks mate
Turn off the music some of us have a hard time hearing specially when you get music playing good video other than that thank you. Grumpy old bastard here.
Right. This vid is 11 years old. I have learned a lot since then about movie editor programs and volumes. Thanks.
Hey genius, always disconnect the negative first, it's sa
xXG.L.HXx well if you're that scared you shouldn't be under the hood in the first place.
It really doesn't matter as long as you don't ground out the positive.
So i can just connect my battery charger on the clamps and swith the battery? Greetings from Belgium
Yes. Greetings.
Gee Mr. Peabody, what if my car is side terminal type connection? They sure aren't very convenient for many practical purposes!
could you use an lipo battery to temporary replace your car battery or to jump your car?
Thanks
will this work using a battery tender plugged into the lighter?
It might, but it's doubtful, as my battery tender wont turn on till its hooked up to the battery as it has to see some voltage to work.
@@NightFlyyer thank you
@@NightFlyyer thanks
Wouldn't be easier just to reprogram the radio without having to go through this back-up stuff?
Modern vehicles have a LOT of functions that require constant battery power when the car is off. This is called a "parasitic drain," thus the necessity to keep the car electrically powered, even when off or when the 12v (or other voltage) battery is removed. Why in the world car mfrs don't give consumers a simple-to-change rechargeable 9v (the small consumer kind, aka "NEDA 1604") battery slot for just such occurrences is beyond me. The car could even tell you when the 9v battery is dying; as long as the car's 12v battery is attached, you can replace the 9v battery without any risk. I supposed the extra 5 oz weight and $5 worth of parts is too much for Detroit to handle! Even your computer has a coin-battery to keep some functions alive when the computer is turned off.
Thanks for making the this thing so easy to understand. I had always wondered why a back-up was so important.
My radio has anti theft if it loses power the radio won't work unless you know the code which i don't idk if its turned on just bought it.
easy way is just keep car running,, but don't do that unless you know what your doing
+robert hingston I have spent months researching into battery reconditioning and discovered an awesome website at Magic Mender Wizard (check it out on google)

Worked great for me
Can a floater charger be used to swap out the battery.
It depends on the type of float charger. If it's one of those solar types that puts out a milliamp or so and/or less than 2 volts, then, no, you can't use that, because the car's power requirements are way above that. But, you can use a simple 9v (aka "NEDA 1604") battery connected to the positive lead of the car battery and negative lead of the 9v battery to any ground, including the car's negative ground, and that should be plenty. Just make sure it's a new 9v battery, or it may not have enough juice to do the job. You may also use an AC charger, wired in the same way, but make sure that it's set on the lowest possible setting, usually 2 amps or "trickle charge." These aren't long term solutions. They are meant only for the few minutes it takes to swap out the battery. And make sure that you connect the external source in such a way that it doesn't interfere with removing and installing the car battery, or come off easily when you replace the car battery. Then, of course, disconnect the external source after the new car battery is fully in place.
Great tip...
Ironically a 9v battery will do the same, minimal power is needed to save electronics memory
I wish it was that easy to retain my own memory...lol
Safer.
Effective training is a process. Explain, demonstrate, observe and correct as needed or praise success. Your explanation was inadequate and the trailer wire clouded the already confusing video. One image shows a 1.5v battery duct taped to a cigarette type plug. I’m sure you know what you did however I suspect few others did but you get an A for effort.
First of all, that is a 12 volt battery (that comes from a garage door opener) and not a 1.5 volt battery! So you get an F for not paying attention at 1:27. No one else had a problem with this and for sure I'm not stupid enough to use a 1.5 volt battery to run 12 volts. LOL.
Your audio does say 12v battery but video indeed shows AA (1.5v) battery. Wish I knew how to post screenshot from your video. That 1:27 has a piece of duct tape with red sharpie writing “MEMORY KEEPER FOR CAR” I found a different video which shows jumper cables attached to battery terminals on dead battery. I have jumpers so will use them with one of my other vehicles.
@@doncook5164 That battery IS a 12 volt garage door opener transmitter battery!! They are tiny and small and look like 1.5 batteries! The wiring is equally simple. Put plus on battery Plus lead and and minus on Negative lead. Then unhook the cables and memory will be kept. The car booster works just the same. Here is a link to the batteries, as you obviously never saw one. www.amazon.com/Duracell-MN21B2PK-Electronic-Keyless-Alkaline/dp/B00009V2QM/ref=sr_1_4?hvadid=174247332851&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9018272&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t2&hvqmt=e&hvrand=11897127557242155225&hvtargid=kwd-13493814417&keywords=12+volt+garage+door+opener+battery&qid=1552661109&s=gateway&sr=8-4&tag=googhydr-20
That connects the dots for me. Thanks
@@doncook5164 Good. Thanks.
