    I think GM’s like Daniel would fair better against Magnus if they didn’t know who they were playing. If they only knew it was another GM they were playing. Psychology plays more of a role than we think. It forces them to blunder more when they’ve already subconsciously accepted defeat.

    The thing is when magnus plays a match like this, his opponent thinks so much of it, they play like it’s a championship or something just because it’s magnus. Yes it’s high level chess so everyone is trying hard, but most people would lock in and get super serious against magnus. So magnus is always playing against top tier play from his opponents, he must get burnt out from it eventually.

    • @royallion7923
      @royallion7923 Год назад +4

      But ironically Magnus rarely gets the best performance out of his opponents because they overthink for the exact reason you said. So them taking it as life or death works against them, to him it's just another game. Magnus himself has said this, that one of the most crucial things he realized is to punish his opponents fear. This is like the Michael Jordan effect, who was so dominant not just because of his own greatness, but also because of his opponent's fear and the psychological edge he had over them which caused them to be less efficient against him

    You would think that taking on f6 straight away in the opening or a2-a4 instead of the piece sac should be very good for white. In the game white was a bit fortunate to have the Nc7 fork just in time. After this, white should be winning, but he made a lot of questionable decisions in the endgame. He of course should have played c2-c3 somewhere to at least try to exchange black's queenside pawns.

    In the endgame Magnus played with 2 knights and a king, while Daniel played just with the rook. Not that he could have done much, his king was too far away.

      It's also dangerous to bring the king out of safety, because of forks. With such a low time remaining, it's very hard to avoid getting forked.
