Nioh - Powerful A+ Agility Build (Kusarigama, Sanada Set, Living Weapon Build)

  • UPDATE: Patch 1.06 went through about an hour after I posted this build. The patch nerfed many things, and nearly everything in this build took some sort of hit, particularly close combat critical attack (down 5%), which includes the perk on the Sanada set. Living weapons also last for less time, and the longer you have them the less they can recharge, though this is somewhat balanced by a buff to Tenacity. In any case, this build has been nerfed a little. It's still perfectly viable - I just completed a level 330 mission with this build - but it's not quite as powerful as you see in the video now. Just so you know.

    So this post is also (eventually) about Agility Damage Bonus, and a potential skill damage build, although it runs through a few things first:
    So I did some testing on skill damage on both “the Blender,” using the Windmill skill, and the Kusarigama’s Blade Spin skill. I did this with the 2 guardian spirits supposed to provide the most dmg with skills, both leveled up to thirty, and with both Carnage and Power Pills (which are now supposed to be stronger than Carnage). All from the front, consistently, on the Big Monster in the “Greater Demon Hunting” mission.
    Accessories:
    Magatama 14.9% Yokai CCD
    Yasakani Magatama: 14.5 Yokai CCD
    Armor:
    Sanada Crimson: adds 15.5% skill dmg
    Dual Swords
    Attack: 1695
    Skill Damage: 20.7%
    Kato + Power Pills: 2933 dmg Kato + Carnage: 3175 dmg
    Kara-Jishi + Power Pills: 3284 Kara-Jishi + Carnage: 3583 dmg
    Kara-Jishi + Carnage -→ + Power Pills: 3284
    Kara-Jishi + Power Pills and then + Carnage: 3583
    Kusarigama
    Attack: 1857
    Skill Damage: 17.1%
    Kato + Power Pills: 5474 dmg Kato + Carnage: 5780 dmg
    Kara-Jishi + Power Pills: 6157 dmg Kara-Jishi + Carnage: 6718 dmg
    Kara-Jishi + Carnage -→ + Power Pills: 6157
    Kara-Jishi + Power Pills -→ + Carnage: 6718
    So….do with this what you will. Kara-Jishi seems to make the two of our favorite skill attacks stronger than any other guardian spirit.
    But then I decided to try another setup. Took my stamina to 33. Not too high. But I wanted to see what the agility bonus A+ would do.
    (w/ the same accessories stated above)
    3 Sanada Crimson Pieces: 15.5% Skill dmg.
    3 Justice Ministry Set Pieces (one being the dual sword): 9.7% CCD; +3 living weapon.
    Active Long Range Weapon: A+ Agility Bonus + 23.3% Fire Damage
    My Windstorm now hits at 4125, over 500 more dmg than the highest before. And my Blade Spin now hits at 7729. Over 1000 more dmg points than the highest I had hit before. And my living weapon hangs out for longer. Not bad.

      Thanks a lot. Means a ton coming from Fuzzy Bearbarian, whom I believe is the most creative build designer on RUclips. I reposted this on another guy's video, who was (quite adequately) making the case that Power Pills had now become stronger than Carnage. I wasn't trying to prove otherwise, I just thought he'd like to see some interesting stats. We discussed it, confused about our contradictory findings, and he realized that he had made a mistake. Of course, he was supremely gracious in pointing out in another post his error. Like I said before, I wasn't trying to prove him wrong, just providing data, and asking about the factors that could explain our different findings. This is how the community works. We all gotta creatively explore options, and then suggest them to others. And, my friend, you are the absolute best at. I wanted to repay the favor(s).

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Thanks again mate, those are some nice compliments there. And for sure on sharing data and learning from it. One thing about Nioh, at least for me, is that the game is a constant learning exercise. The more of us who share findings the more fun we'll have zoning in on the best builds and their variations. Though that said, I'm not really about the best build. I'm more about finding the best combination of attributes to suit my play style, so I'm really more about finding the most fun build. Fortunately, a lot of the time those things are one and the same.

      A couple more tests that interested me::
      With Carnage and Power Pills nerfed, how does the Summer Twilight skill hold up? And does it stack with the aforementioned buffs? Here’s what I found:
      (Same Sanada Crimson/Justice Ministry Agility A build, using the Blade Spin)
      Carnage: 7939
      Power Pills: 7274
      Summer Twilight: 8189
      They don’t stack. Whatever buff is used second cancels out the first.
      The duration of the Carnage buff goes from 34 seconds with the Awakening Mystic art, to 50 seconds with Amplification.
      The duration using for Summer Twilight using either Mystic Art is 38 seconds.
      So, with Summer Twilight, you do 250 more damage Blade Spinning than with Carnage (which from my tests is still stronger than Power Pills). Just data. Cheers!

    Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I have another one. I sincerely appreciate you responding to all of my ignorance. I heard that the carnage talisman was nerfed, and it seems obvious when using my blender build. It seems like it was nerfed dramatically. What about the Kusarigama Summer Twilight skill? Is that now a viable alternative to Carnage or Power pills? Do any of them stack? Thanks again.

      If I remember right, that means Amplification's duration has been buffed. Or maybe it's just that Carnage's duration is buffed and Amplification is merely amplifying that buff. Either way, I can definitely remember amplification not lasting that long.
      I also guess these numbers mean Summer Twilight is still the best, nothing changed there with 1.06 except that power pills aren't quite as weak compared to carnage and summer twilight as they were.
      Also, nothing stacks when it is in the same categorization. I just posted another build and in that I actually chose not to have elemental damage on my weapon for the very reason that casting an elemental talisman overrides the element on the weapon. When pressed for choice it makes sense then to prioritize a different special effect on the weapon and an elemental talisman for any elemental effect you want on it.
      Great stuff Rick, enjoying your comments mate.

    Unfortunately, the critical living weapon builds got nerfed. Still super strong though. Question: you say here that you put critical atk up on your offhand weapon (the sword). Does that contribute to the dmg done by the weapon that you are using? Thanks.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Yeah, they nerfed this so far into the ground it's not a fun build anymore. As far as the offhand weapon goes, no, special effects on that weapon don't contribute to damage. The reason I have the offhand weapon is it is a part of an armor set. With the Yasakani Magatama, you can still get the 2 piece bonus of that set by having the offhand weapon there. The bonus of that set is critical attack.

      Thanks man. Honestly, I have no idea what to expect from the DLC. I've kind of kept my eye off that ball to keep spoilers out of sight. I'll probably break closer to the time, but for now, it's all a mystery to me.

  • @rickcabrera49

    I reforged my sharanui's critical damage for skill damage (I only got it up to 17.1%, which isn't too far off from the critical nerf of 19.4% or whatever), which the crimson sanada set also enhances. And I don't have to be in critical. I really only use the rolling attack with it, so I figured this might be a minor solution to my new dilemma( i worked hard to get my 160+10). I know you can roll over 20% with skill damage. I know that they also nerfed the ki taken up by that particular skill, but if you Yag Mag the Master Swordsman's dual swords in your offhand you might offset some of it with the 14.6% skill ki reduction. I also equipped Kara-Jishi (super skill buff)and am Demolishing folks, maybe even quicker than the critical-Kato mix before, and without having to worry about the living weapon nerf. Or being stuck in critical when it ends. Whatcha think, fuzzy? Impart your knowledge.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Honestly, occasionally I think of making a spear build, but I'm just not a fan of spears. I've seen a few other spear builds and when I see them they don't inspire me to play with a spear. Most builds inspire me in some way, but spear builds don't. Still, I change my mind on what I'm doing pretty much every morning when I wake up hahaha, so you never know.

    The sanada gear and smithing txt wasn't only given by playing the beta and completing it. I got a full set via the dlc boons because I bought the deluxe edition which gave me the game and season pass. It might become available to people who buy the season pass when the new dlc drops on 2nd May who knows.

      @DRAKLOR_44 7 лет назад

      +Fuzzy Bearbarian Then you were extremely lucky lol... Kato is definitely the best guardian combined with the chain, but tbh I only use one Sanada piece because I get 19% killing strike damage (The yaskani magatama is vital to that) I know critical builds are one way to go and it works effectively as your video shows but I can do close to the damage without needing to take a hit or needing to remove a piece of gear. Nioh is really in depth and thats why its one of the best games i've played in ages, so many options and paths to choose.

    People who didn't have the game during the first 2 weeks of launch, the requirement to get the sanada armor set and smithing text, will probably get an opportunity to get the sanada armor during the second dlc because it focuses on the siege of osaka which yukimara sanada, the guy who wears the armor set, played a major role in.

      Depends what stage you're at in the game. If in WoTN you could go a number of routes, though for me personally I'd go a Tatenashi/Oyamatsumi combo that is spec'd for damage reduction and instead use Pleiades Talisman to get my LW up a lot. Not a LW build, but I'm not a big LW build person and haven't played a LW build since the early days of the game. In WoTN, especially Abyss, I like the Tat/Oya combo while spec'd for firearms damage reduction > 100%. I feel indestructable with that build and can use whatever guardian spirit combo I feel like. Up to you if you want to play more defensive/heavy/tank. If not, you could try another combo, like Tat/Kigetsu etc. Or, you could go glass cannon/big damage route and play just Hayabasa set which is designed specifically as a katana/kusa combo set (I played through WoTN entirely using Hayabasa and only switched to Tat/Oya combo for later Abyss). Either way, you can spec for LW but I find that if I just use Pleiades Talisman all the time there's no point as you have your LW as often as you want just about. Good luck!

      Attack can only be gotten on gloves. So, you need to find gloves with attack as an inheritable on them, and inherit that into your other armors. I find farming revenants the best way. If you find one revenant that has attack as an inheritable on their gloves, you can keep farming that revenant over and over again until you get enough gloves for all of your armor pieces. From there, you have to max the familiarity on those gloves before you'll be able to inherit attack through soul matching. Good luck!

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      It depends on how you play, really, but if you took this build and modified it so that all your points where in Skill and Heart, then this build would be superior to Justice Ministry for dual sword skill based attacks, especially windstorm, but obviously with the exception of Moon Shadow. Of course, if you don't do a lot of skill attacks and prefer to focus on close combat fighting with strong attacks, and you want to be fast and agile without investing points into stamina, then Justice Ministry would probably be better.

      Sadly, even with the lightest hat, Fanatics can't get below B Agility. Kingo is lighter, but still not light enough to go below B even with the lightest hat. That's with 99 in both Stamina and Strength.

    Luckily I had the Sanada set from the Last Chance demo. This REALLY works! I am still in the process of building up, however, this is finally a powerhouse that works for me, even with the kasuragama with Heart to A+ instead of Dex (I am still juggling between katana and spear between kasuragama all at 150 +9 yet), but I am blade whirling Greater Demon Hunting and the Iga Toad in mere seconds. Haven't tried living weapon or anything yet though, just straight up damage-meister. Fun stuff, and avoids the prior nerfing issues greatly!

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +1

      I complete all of the new 330 missions with this build, so yes, it is still viable. However, I'm no longer a fan of the Kusarigama since they nerfed its ki usage to 50% of what it was for blade spin (its toughest attack). So if you don't mind ki pulsing all the time and managing your attacks and ki fairly closely, then yeah, this is still not a bad build. But it's not the kind of build I personally would actually choose to play permanently with. For a bit of fun, yeah, but for the amount of grind to get a build going like this going, well, I think maybe it isn't really worth it if you're looking for something to stick with. I'm about to post a dual sword build that I think is way more fun, so you might want to check that out when it goes up as it definitely pours through higher level content easier than this one.

      Yeah. Red Demon is good when paired with anything to be honest. I guess that's why a lot of people use it.

    I still don't understand what part of these builds actually makes the living weapon last so long an activate so easy an doesn't the living weapon have a timer on it now

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Yeah. If you want to keep it going for as long as possible now you're probably best off using an extraction talisman. But even then it won't last as long as it did pre 1.06 patch.

    I hope the next update they add a new boss mechanic for human bosses. Make them able to parry. The new 320, 330 missions are a good challenge. But damn, imagine the human npcs being able to parry your moves. Check out the first boss you meet in the first Ninja Gaiden game, the one with the nunchucks.

    the mouse doesnt help skills dmg ita cc attack is with squares and traingle only so kato is better dmg if you use blade spin for skill dmg. Also not really any heavier options add more dmg sandra set and 2 piece fanatic has most dmg in the game in critical still now even after nerfs

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Adding heavier armor (fanatics) or reducing critical damage by adding Kato would have worked against the purpose of this build, which was to maximize critical damage while remaining A+ agility. That said, if you really want to maximize blade spin Kara-jishi is the best guardian spirit. Kato will give you 20% extra skill damage, but blade spin is a multiple hit attack weapon, and its multiple attacks will get a 45% attack buff from Kara-jishi.

      sandra> fanatic tho and the kira jishi boost is a one time flat attack boost and for sure is better for non living weapon but kato is alot better in Lw for multiple reasons

    Thank God for refashion. I use Iga Ninja set and as I've moved into the late game and noticed I don't used my bombs as much (just on the mini umi bozo's and mudmen, but I have the dung roller trophy now so I need to clean up my build) kinda sad since ninjitsu got me through my normal play through

      Yep, I love the refashion option. Also, "I have the dung roller trophy now so I need to clean up my build" made me laugh :D

      Unless something has changed since I stopped playing, you can't farm Sanada armor. The Scion of Virtue armor is the only Sanada style armor you can actually get in game.

    this is not your build.....pwar posted this over a month ago..its called susanoo......

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +4

      Sigh. All of my builds are builds I've labored over for days with testing this and testing that. A lot of work, I can tell you. In this case, I attempted to make an A+ agility critical living weapon build for the Kusarigama using the best options available. The best skill is blade spin. The most damage on that type of a build that I could get was using crit and living weapon - and I tested them all! I then spec'd everyting else around that. I've looked at Susanoo and yes, it's close to the same. Not the same, but very similar. Susanoo is better though, especially if you just want the best damage LW critical build out there. All credit to Project for that. In fact, I give Project more credit than just a passing nod for his Susanoo build. If you've spent even one minute in the Nioh community you would know he's the guy usually leading the way while everyone else is following behind him. But that doesn't mean those who do come behind him are just copying him. He's quite obviously giving people ideas and inspiration, and no doubt there are probably douchebags out there who are actually copying his shit directly and claiming it as their own. But I'm not one of them. I spend a lot of time playing the game testing this and that and doing my best to find the best builds for the goals I'm trying to achieve, and that's it. If what I post ends up the same or similar to his or anybody else's post, well, it really has to be expected. That's the nature of working with a game where there's only so much you can do with what you have if you're trying to squeeze the best out of these builds. And for the record, if ever I did copy someone's work and post it, which I wouldn't, but if I did, I would absolutely credit them directly for it. That's because I'm not an asshat. Kthnxbai.
