    Great video! I live along Kinderhook Creek, south of you, but in summer, I go up to LG, Bolton Landing and fish and was tickled pink to hear you mention the Adirondack area as a fishery.

    I really love the things I learn on your channel. This really confirms my belief of releasing larger fish, I thinking of Bass in particular. It is amazing how long a fish can live, my family had a common Goldfish that lived to be 15 years old, and he would actually let me pet him!

      Great to hear! yes they really do live a long time. i am learning about bass in the past year. maybe ill do a vid on that soon.

    The larger & older fish have more eggs. Say a teenager lays 500 eggs a mature one will produce 5000 & and more viable(#'s are made up). As for growth rate you get a faster growth rate at beginning and it kind of tapers off. High protein and abundance of nutrients with fry & fingerlings makes a world of a difference. (I've bred fish for 40 years). As for eating minnows etc, they would eat small fry and or suitable size, that is why it is important you don't overfish. The fry from the perch and other fish support the food chain. They should limit all catches.

      THANKS FOR THE INFO!!! Did you ever raise perch???? What was the best high protein feed? i made a vid with similar conservation teachings a year ago. hoping to get people to keep the neenagers and not target the mature ones. ruclips.net/video/5XUqCvqOR2s/видео.html

      Thanks for watching Mike. i do have some Champlain perch heads in my freezer to age. The 5-7" schoolies were the same growth rate in Lake george. 5-7 years!!!!!!!!! But the heads in my freezer are from Westport and were feeding on alewives so I expect that they were growing faster

    Crazy the difference in lakes. In Lake Erie the dec says that the one year old perch average 6-7 inches.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  2 года назад

      Wow! that is interesting. In Erie the perch eat a lot of minnows right? I wonder if the walleye predation thins out the dinks a little and lets the population grow faster? there are so many factors. what is the average size perch in Erie right now?

      Joey,
      Where on Colby are you catching such great perch? I have fished there a couple times and got skunked. You using minnows and tip-ups? Jigs and waxies, perch eyes, etc.? At the recent derby, the winning perch was 11 3/4 inches.

    Could have used this video earlier this week. Buddy and I both caught a 13" perch and I wasn't sure if I should put it back or not. Bite wasn't great so he went in the bucket. Lol Between the two of us we might have limited out.. and that was 9 hours on the ice. 😩 Good news he gave me his fish so I now have 3 bags of frwsh perch in the freezer. 😀 Love all the videos lately. 👍

      its ok to keep a few big ones. i think its just not great to target them and try to cull through everything else and keep numbers of them. I want to get you over to my bay, but the bite has been lame. ZILLIONS of 5" perch and hardly anything over 7" i'm hoping the big ones will come in soon
