Posted a comment and fix before. Machine failed again after just over12 months with same 53 error and displayed the same symptoms; motor functions ok but as soon as it starts to speed up, it motors back down, and error returns. On investigation, issue was broken wire into the 2 wire tacho connector that plugs into the bottom assembly. The wire is thin and therefore vunerable if you're having to pull the connector off. The rear top of the connector can be levered off to reveal the pinch connector. Use a 1mm drill in through the spade connector end to push the old wire end out and I used a squared off hack saw blade to push the wire back in. I cut the connector off and worked on it on the bench, then soldered the wire ends. You could work on it in situ but you risk stressing the other wire and it breaking off. When reconnected works fine.

I had error code F53 and tried to solve the problem with the help of this video. My carbon brushes looked good though. I tested all the connections with a multimeter and also the speed sensor and everything looked good. The motor was also fine according to the multimeter. Still I got the error code F53. One last thing I tried was to sand a little on the metal surface (with a fine sandpaper) where the carbon brushes touch on the motor and then wiped it off with pure alcohol. That made it all work!

Thanks for your video. The brushes I acquired from Amazon had a different rubber holder that didn’t fit into the slots of the retainer. Was able to slice open the new rubber holder along the top in the same fashion as the original parts and swap the new holder with the old. Perfect fit. Works fine now

Followed the steps and changed both carbon brushes (non OEM parts), the 11 years old Miele W3725 now working as normally, no more F53 faulty display. when the initial back up running It dose sounds a little noisier than before but the noise goes away after a couple of normal cycle washes. Thank you so much for the tutorial, saved me over AUD400 quote from repair technician.

Good video and it helped me fix my problem. Here are my tips.
I've got a 13 year old Miele w3742 but most of your video still applies; with the 3742 you take two screws off at the bottom of the front panel to remove; the top control panel doesn't come off.
With the error occurring, the drum started to rotate but the error came up as soon as it picked up speed, so I suspected something else other than brushes. There's a tacho generator coil that's part of the brush assembly. There's a magnet on the armature spindle so as the motor spins up, it generates a pulse stream in the coil back to the control board and so tells it what speed its spinning at. This coil was open circuit; if you meter it, it should be about 250 ohms. I also checked out the connections on the assembly to make sure it was the coil and not the intermediate connectors etc..
The Miele UK site has a good set of schematics of the assembly and the machine itself so you can see how it fits together. I ordered the brush/ tach generator assembly from Miele; this includes the brushes, fitted. The whole lot cost me £82 (free P&P) and arrived in 2 days.
Replacement was straightforward. The thing to be careful with, are getting the four prongs on the assembly properly located back into their connectors. First time I did it, they appeared ok but the motor wouldn't start. Second attempt it worked fine. Use a small inspection mirror to confirm location and the locating screw holes should line up exactly if they are properly in. Be careful with replacing the brush assembly's four locating screws as it's easy to cross thread them if the assembly is not properly aligned.
    Thanks again John

I successfully replaced the carbon brushes on my 3725 following the steps in this video. Thanks very much! However I still have the F53 fault.
I have cleaned the commutator and tested the tachogenerator with a multimeter at the connector where it plugs into the pcb - I can spin the drum by hand and generate 1-3v of AC.
When I test it on a spin only cycle, it spins for a few seconds in one direction, reverses and spins again for a few seconds, then reverses again, spins and stops with the F53 fault. It never gets up to the full spin speed.
Any suggestions on what to try next?

    Super helpful video.
One tip which is at odds with the video is to leave the brushes in the housing and release them once the brush housing has been installed. Practice this with the brushes themselves before fitting them as you'll need to feel your way to them when you have installed the housing.
Last tip for those with a classic Miele 5740 or similar - you can get the front panel off without taking off the top, or top control panel - bonus!

I also have a Miele W1913 which now stops completely after about 3 minutes. Fills some water and does a few rounds and then turns itself off. I have to turn off and on again at the power point to turn the machine on again. This applies to all programs. Also noticed that I can't select a high water temperature anymore, only up to 50C. Could that be error F53? Don't get an error code and before I follow the instructions and attempt to repair myself I would like to know. Edit: I will just try my luck, already started taking it apart to check the brushes.

  • @sternenkoppler
    @sternenkoppler Год назад

In case your Miele has an inverter (i.e. brushless) motor, the fault is often caused by the tachogenerator, a relatively cheap (around $40) part that sits on top of the motor, i.e. where the carbon brush unit is located for non inverter motor machines. Replacement is staight-forward, following pretty much the same procedure as described in the video. If you're less lucky, it's a faulty main control board as described in many other videos on youtube.

Thank you for this video. It was most helpful and I'm sure without it I could not change the brushes. However. As I assemble the machine I find I must have made some mistake somewhere. For some reason I can't make the door switch lock the door. I unscrewed this lock as I was taking of the front panel, but that turned out to be unnecessary as the switch came loose. So naturally I put the switch bak on the back side of the panel before I put it back, but somehow the switch won't work. My machine is a W3743. I really wish there was a way to post pictures here. Easier to explain. (Pardon my English as I'm a Norwegian) Do you have any suggestions other that just go buy an other second hand machine?

From memory the front display house the motor controller as well if there is another board in there then that's the motor controller.

    Hi
Miele washing machines and washer-dryers cost more in spite of other brands for nothing as even Miele always have problems and often very serious ones especially in the electronics which always has failures and burning problems of the electronic boards themselves. Their very high price is truly unjustified and unjustifiable! The electronic boards are not made in Germany and the spare parts cost almost as much as a new washing machine! Other less expensive brands work great and never have any problems of any kind! Furthermore, it must be added that the much vaunted honeycomb drum does not wash well at all, indeed if you make a comparison with the old Mieles that used the drum with holes, the latter wash much much better! The honeycomb drum was just a publicity stunt and nothing more!
    Regards.
