@Billy Hamilton In 1985 at the Richmond Fairgrounds circle Track the fastest lap of the day was a one day old 85 Vette that ended up crashing into the wall trying to better his own FTD. A 70 LT -1 Vette then crashed in the same place . That was a day to remember ! My Experience was totally Different I froze up and could not stop taking laps on the track, Finally they threw traffic cones cones in front of my approaching 73 Vette , I was using third gear only and was at 6000 + RPM before the turns. luckily no crash for me!
@@BeckersGarage After 2 1/2 years I sold my C4 and went back to a C3 Convertible 4 Speed, a much more exciting car. You dumped the clutch @ 5000 RPM and banged through the gears as fast as you put the accelerator to the floor !
You put in a ton of hard work on this video. I respect that. People forget how FAST the C4s were at the time. The '84 was not as quick off the line as some of the later C3s ('78 to '82) but none of them topped out at 140 mph and handled like the '84. Most of them were slightly faster (6.3-6.6) than the '84's 6.8-7.2 run to 60 but were loosely gear-limited to 125-130 mph AT BEST. The '85 was even faster at 150-153 mph. Nowadays, the '85 is about as fast as a '16 Ford Edge Sport or a '14-'17 Toyota Camry V6...but back in the day it was one of the world's top 10 fastest vehicles with its L98 motor!
Great deal for $800. Just a note, your wheels are on the wrong sides of the car. The fins on the wheels are supposed to go the other direction. Your tires may be mounted backwards as well if they are unidirectional.
Love my C4. Totally agree on the styling, and the 'rocket ship' feeling it gives you inside. I know it's not what you'd call fast by today's standards, but I think mine is plenty fast enough And these things really handle. Best sports car value there is, if you want my opinion.
Timeless styling for sure, I have a Mk 3 Supra Turbo and I think I know where Toyota got some of the styling cues, I know the C4 is dirt common in the states but you rarely see them here in Australia, I'd love to own one for sure, I have to agree with you on the points you make regarding ownership.
Dang i paid 1300 for one that was sitting for like 16 years. Motor was locked up but still got it running within like 3 days. It is a first year (84) and it does have the doug nash 4+3. Plus the targa top isn't glass but a soft material which really held up. After a oil change it runs really nice and just installed a new clutch flyweel and pressure plate so hopefully it drives. Might not have OD tho

I know this vid is a year old but I wanted to put the word out that if you own a 94-96, 96 being an OBD2 car, there is allot of torque and some HP hidden in a tune. I have a 96, you can get a JET DST programmer and tune that thing for more torque and at least 20 more horsepower. They do have first generation torque management. You bring that table down by 75% and get rid of all the spark knock crap, bump up timing, wot tuning and beef up the transmission shifting? Turns a late model C4 into a BEAST!
Hello friend, thanks for the video - this is what I was looking for, greetings from Ukraine. Now my Mazda 3 BK 2003 is getting nervous, I saw the video and became interested in this Corvette model. I'm ready to live with her in the garage, it's not just a car - but a state of mind. I haven’t seen anything like this in Ukraine, I’d like to take a ride in a car. Now I finally have a dream, a weekend car for the soul. Thanks.
As a Corvette owner of 16 years I have to disagree with you on several points . The main point being easy and inexpensive maintenance . While a Chevy small block engine is easy enough to work on the L98 fuel injection system is neither simple or inexpensive . In fact many shops and some dealers shy away from taking on C4 repairs . One big draw back is accessibility to components under the hood . Just to get to one thing you need to remove or rearrange three things . All the interior pieces are costly . You will regret buying one if have no mechanical skills . The cost of purchasing a C4 is sketchy at best . While you can find low cost cars that have been hacked to shame by their previous owner it hurts clean low mile well maintained cars from being sold at fair market value . Not every C4 is $2,000 to $5,000 , or less , as most first time buyers believe .
Interesting... so what parts are inaccessible? Granted, mine hasn't broken anything major yet, but it doesn't look like anything is particularly difficult to get to? And maybe it's just me, but diagnosing the early fuel injected cars is also very simple
@@BeckersGarage the early C4s can be dogs to diagnose based on old school computers. Even the 92-93 ECMs are not reliable and are very expensive to fix.
@@BeckersGarage last year my a.i.r. pump broke after 35 years of service. There was only one "remanufactured" replacement available according to autozone, advance, oriley, etc etc because all of them had the literal exact same part because they were all getting it from the one same source. To make matters worse it was the wrong part and didn't quite fit, machine shop had to trim it and they ended up trimming it too far and not only ruined the threads but they cut a hole in it. We patched the hole and heli-coiled the threads and its been on my car since then but once it's breaks I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get a remanufactured replacement again. Gonna try to get a procharger kit instead of replacing it with an ugly air pump delete idler pulley.
@@BeckersGarage also while the air pump is easy to reach there are many parts that are hidden in pain sight (plain sight but pain sight because you can reach it but you'll damn near break something trying) on the car. It seems like you can open the hood and look and see everything and while you can, the parts that will give you problems are the parts that are in the tightest hardest to reach spots. Installing spark plugs as a major example. #8 is the hardest plug to reach and #2 is easy, but you have to snake an extension with a universal joint on it through the wheel well to reach it. That's my way anyway
@@ryantexada9269 You're way is wrong. All 8 plugs can be easily reached with no universals and without pulling the wheel well covers... a variety of mid/short length extensions are all that's required. As far as the AIR pump goes, getting rid of it is the best option... btw... how is an idler pulley uglier than a giant tumor of a worthless AIR pump in the front of the engine bay? If it really bothers you, polish the brackets from one of the AIR pump elimination kits. 1000 bucks if you buy an automatic and live in the middle of the mountains. here in florida manuals go for 7k+ in ''good'' running and driving condition
I’ve owned 2 C4’s and for the money they aren’t bad cars but they have many quirks, and I consider it an under powered generation. Handling and braking is excellent. I’m my opinion a C5 is a much better Corvette especially the Z06.
Kinda sorta looking at a 1996 convertible, polo green, tan interior, tan top. 5.7L V8, Automatic. The older Vettes are timeless. The one I'm talking about is going for 18K, but it is perfect bumper to bumper.

May 21, 2012. Just bought an 87 yellow convert yesterday in Calgary Canada for 15,000 cad with 104,000 km (about 67,000mi) garage kept. I think I paid too much, but as Becker said… first day cruising with the top down and I’m suddenly cool as ice… for 64 yr old. Wife got tons of thumbs and waves and the 10 yr olds next door are RAVING about it. Yup. First Vette. Oh, wife’s name is Cora. Can you guess what it’s name is, LOL?
Great video! Welcome to the Club LOL a couple of key points for your future videos; Corvettes are not muscle cars, they are sports cars, the difference being two passengers. Muscle cars carry four passengers (aka Mustangs)... there are no carbureted C4s (unless they've been modified)...it's called a "Clamshell Hood", unique to the C4, ending in 1996.
Having owned one for nearly 20 years, I'd add... They SUCK to work on. The TPI is a pain, everything is jammed in somewhere-not pleasant. Put an evaporator core in one sometime and tell me how easy they are to work on. The TPI is done at around four thousand RPM. If you want a diesel with spark plugs, fine, stroke it and embrace it's limitations. If not, you're gonna need to start from the deck up. Either way, bring money. Tires are expensive. The a/c sucks in the coupes. Half shaft u-joints, 40 year old switches and control heads, headlight motors full of plastic gears. Let's not candy coat this. Drop top or three pedals? Watch the price climb. People do smile when they see it, then yell "Barbie wants her car back!". Still, the dollar-to-giggle ratio is high, and they get good mileage.
The cheap and worn out ones make great, gutted track cars. I have an 86 Z51 with an LS2. You can wreck it and just go get another for the chassis/body. Then move the engine, trans and parts to the new shell. Then sell all the C4 stuff on ebay to all these guys who want C4 parts to restore their car with.

Haha I feel a little bad, I kind of want to buy a second one before the prices hike. 😅 they're all over! South mountain, the 88, 60 to globe.. just being in Phoenix has no nice roads in town unfortunately
The best driving in Phoenix is on a track. Find an HPDE group to join and drive your own car. The last time I was there one of the groups ran at the Bondurant school track. Much safer than public roads because anyone fool can get a license, and some drivers don't even do that.
80s C4 Corvettes are absolutely beautiful, even if they weren’t the most powerful. The 90s models were quite bland in comparison. The original C4 design is really one that has very little room for tweaking or modification, including the stock wheels, or the whole design will be thrown off in my opinion.

I hope they go up in value cause I bought a 6 speed manual 92 c4 with 94k miles in good condition. Paid $5500 thought I got an amazing deal until I blew a headgasket 2 days later lol. It's just sitting in my driveway until I can afford the repairs.
The Torque from the L98 TPI motor with the R700 Auto. Trans. was a match made in heaven. Effortless Torque to match the shifts in four gears, The Overdrive does seem too tall but saved me from going over a hundred and losing my License !
Yep, torque monster for sure! I got mine up to 140 (in Mexico😉😛)
@@BeckersGarageFrom new here is everything I replaced in the C4 conv. in 2 1/2 yrs. before going back to C3 for serviceability reasons, Battery then intake gaskets Alternator, VATS key chip, Serpentine belt and tensioner I did get the car half price because of a supposed wiring problem 18 K for a new C4 conv. no one could figure out why the taillights would not work, wrong bulbs were put in from the Factory Colonial chevrolet fixed it ,Western branch chevrolet could not find the problem and just gave up!
That's awesome, I live for those kinds of deals🤟
Im a Mustang guy, but I love and respect the Corvette !
I got mine last month with 70k miles ‘88 for only 2K. I love it
I love the c4s
Yep still get a C4 for a pretty good price, put a few bucks in it and have a daily driver or track car...Great Video!!
Thank you sir👌
Great deal for $800. Just a note, your wheels are on the wrong sides of the car. The fins on the wheels are supposed to go the other direction. Your tires may be mounted backwards as well if they are unidirectional.
Something about the C4. It's retro, it's luxury, it's muscle, it's sport. And it's a damn good looking machine.
Love the cloth seats!!
Very comfy😌
Love my C4. Totally agree on the styling, and the 'rocket ship' feeling it gives you inside. I know it's not what you'd call fast by today's standards, but I think mine is plenty fast enough And these things really handle. Best sports car value there is, if you want my opinion.
Very Positive Video Man 🏁
that's a nice corvette
Corvettes are ugly
a paid more but my interior/exterior is mint. really fun car, timeless beauty.
The cosmetics are a huge plus for sure! But I agree. I think they're going to continue to be great cars, years to come.👌
Great looking ride!
Thank you, sir! 🤟
I had one they are great cars You add a ground effects kit to it it really looks great
Timeless styling for sure, I have a Mk 3 Supra Turbo and I think I know where Toyota got some of the styling cues, I know the C4 is dirt common in the states but you rarely see them here in Australia, I'd love to own one for sure, I have to agree with you on the points you make regarding ownership.
Great years for the supra, the 1jz is no slouch🤟
Dang i paid 1300 for one that was sitting for like 16 years. Motor was locked up but still got it running within like 3 days. It is a first year (84) and it does have the doug nash 4+3. Plus the targa top isn't glass but a soft material which really held up. After a oil change it runs really nice and just installed a new clutch flyweel and pressure plate so hopefully it drives. Might not have OD tho
That's sick!! Good luck with the project!!
Reverse and OD work together so if you have reverse you should have OD
i love the cloth seats. only leather up here, i hate leather, you sweat on them even in the coldest of winter.
also love the wheels of that year. dont like wagon wheel spokes much. hard to find filled in wheels these days.
Your tires are running the right direction, but the wheels are backwards. I love my C4. Best car I’ve ever owned.
Yeah, they need to be rotated into the correct spot😅
I love your appreciation for this car
I have one with 48k miles l98 85 blue 💙 and leather. I swear its like a new car inside. I hadn't started since 2010 though I need to get in garage and get it running again
I also have an '88 Pontiac Fiero Formula that's been sitting since '15. Love the car so much, just need to get fresh fluids then drive her again🤟 the older cars are definitely an experience to drive
@@BeckersGarage thats cool my neighbor collected 3 or 4 of those when I was growing up he had a gold and silver one. One had the 2.7 turbo and actually think he still keeps it in the garage.
Is it the 2.8 v6? That would be awesome with a turbo for sure
@@BeckersGarage yeah its gold or silver with formula on the side door and has a 2.8
@Keef Dichards what leaks are you talking about?
Enjoyed watching this; I like the car; best wishes
Thank you 😀
I paid $5500 for my ,94 C4
It had the upgraded suspension and was set up for Autocross
5.7 liters of pure fun just as a driver
That's awesome 👌
I picked a 84 up for 700 dollars,,,l couldn't pass it up,,they really are a engineering marvel.
Great deal! 👍
Crushed the like and subscribe buttons! What a beautiful Corvette!!
Thank you, I appreciate it🤟
Good video bud. And yup….pretty durable. Mine looks more or less new and has over 200k miles. You’re review was well done!
15 looking for my first car, I’ve been in love with corvettes because of my dad and I would love one and this is probably the best for my price range. I found one for 5 grand but I missed the chance.
I just checked some manual C4 corvette with less than 50k mileage in California they are around 20G or higher! Automatics seems to be cheaper ! L98 are better than LT1 regarding reliability and easier to work on
Arguably more reliable and definitely easier to work on. LT1 makes more power stock though... L98 Vette are typically half the price🤟
@@BeckersGarage correct but I have seen specifically 1991 are really expensive since they have new body style (exterior and interior) with L98! So I bought one 91
Hmmm so you have the hybrid between the new body style but older sbc engine... they all have their pros and cons. Enjoy your non-optispark lol
Keep up the good work
Thanks :D
Thanks for the vid. Big bonus if the tires are good.
Glad you enjoyed, sir!
Great tour - but where can I find a C4 for under 5? Am ready!
Just need to stay diligent and keep your eyes open!
Three rules for owning a C4:
1) Buy the ACTUAL factory service manual.
2) Get a scanner like the Actron 9690
3) Join the C4 section of Corvette forums: www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c4-corvettes-1984-1996-19/
New sub, good video, I have an 84, look forward to future videos to see what you do to your C4.
Thanks bro🤟 definitely Vette videos coming
1000 bucks if you buy an automatic and live in the middle of the mountains. here in florida manuals go for 7k+ in ''good'' running and driving condition
XD I bought it from a guy who lives in the middle of nowhere. So you're not wrong🤣🤣
I’ve owned 2 C4’s and for the money they aren’t bad cars but they have many quirks, and I consider it an under powered generation. Handling and braking is excellent. I’m my opinion a C5 is a much better Corvette especially the Z06.
You got a steal on that car
Kinda sorta looking at a 1996 convertible, polo green, tan interior, tan top. 5.7L V8, Automatic. The older Vettes are timeless. The one I'm talking about is going for 18K, but it is perfect bumper to bumper.
i just bought a c3 frame roller to restore with a 302 yes a 302
Sounds sick! What year 302?
I just wish I could get one this cheap. Cheapest one on sale in my country is about $10k. On the plus side even the cheapest ones seems to be in OK condition, at least according to sales pictures.
Yeah, American cars are cheap... in America. Who knows, there might be one that pops up🤷♂️
All 4 wheels on this C4 are at wrong side .. C4 Z-51 4-ever . .
Yeah I've been told😅 they were like that when I got it
Got one sitting in the yard with the shitty crossfire gonna vortec swap it soon!
Sounds like a great little project!
LS
@@saintnificent5532 can't go wrong with LS
May 21, 2012. Just bought an 87 yellow convert yesterday in Calgary Canada for 15,000 cad with 104,000 km (about 67,000mi) garage kept. I think I paid too much, but as Becker said… first day cruising with the top down and I’m suddenly cool as ice… for 64 yr old. Wife got tons of thumbs and waves and the 10 yr olds next door are RAVING about it. Yup. First Vette. Oh, wife’s name is Cora. Can you guess what it’s name is, LOL?
That's awesome brother. Yeah everyone loves them😜😜
I got my 89 for $2,000 on Oct.2023.needed to put the engine put back together and I was riding in a month..!
Looove the ZR1, 1991, white and red in the inside .-)
Very nice👍
Best performance deal in the world.@@!
What world are you living in
For the price, they are an excellent platform for perform both from parts availability and durability...
Appreciate the info, sir🙂
Going to get one tomorrow
😎💯👍🏾🔥....nice C4....have a 1987 C4 myself...great deal...new sub
Heck yeah brotha🤟
The cheap and worn out ones make great, gutted track cars. I have an 86 Z51 with an LS2. You can wreck it and just go get another for the chassis/body. Then move the engine, trans and parts to the new shell. Then sell all the C4 stuff on ebay to all these guys who want C4 parts to restore their car with.
Back in the day, I bought an ‘86 vette brand new I was 21 at the time and later on I bought an ‘89 iroc and held on to both until my son was born in ‘94 and traded both for a mini van
Oof I'm sorry😅
How did you get it for 800 dollars? I can't find one near me for less that 2500 and that one had a sketchy title that was also salvaged.
Just gotta wait for the right deals to pop up!
Have owned two of these. I don’t care what anyone says, the C4s are the most fun corvettes to drive. I hated my C6. It was garbage. Currently looking for a clean C4 convertible. Good luck with your channel.

@@destruxandexploze2552 had an early build 05 which had many electrical gremlins. No denying bang for Buck but the build quality was lacking. Kept that car less than a year and stayed away from vette’s until finally buying a 18 C7 which was a great car in every way.

The best driving in Phoenix is on a track. Find an HPDE group to join and drive your own car. The last time I was there one of the groups ran at the Bondurant school track. Much safer than public roads because anyone fool can get a license, and some drivers don't even do that.

I found one for about $12,000 with only about 29,000 miles on the dash. Is that way overpriced?
Love you video and your Corvette
80s C4 Corvettes are absolutely beautiful, even if they weren’t the most powerful. The 90s models were quite bland in comparison. The original C4 design is really one that has very little room for tweaking or modification, including the stock wheels, or the whole design will be thrown off in my opinion.
i am 5’7 you think i’ll have trouble seeing over the dash?
