Such a cool look, I remember feeling so happy to final have him as a kid. But even better than having the set as a kid is paying much more money to have it as an adult!
Makuta is one of the most iconic villains ever for me He was always that "i know its real, but it feels like a distant concept, i will never see it in real life" type of toy when i was young, and this made me love him
Yes. That's how I viewd the piraka and the rahkshi. I discovered bionicle a bit after their era and then I couldn't find any of them but I really wanted them because I loved them from the game.
My favorite part of this set is how they did the legs with Rahkshi backs; it's really cool how through that, one can replicate the process of ripping Kraata out of Teridax's knees like in the lore and MoL
Agreed, it's neat how those pieces visually link Teridax and the Rahkshi together given that they're his sons; I also like that the legs can simply be used as Kraata storage, since those were the '03 collectibles
Wow I remember my mother getting this for me as a “souvenir” from her work trip to Brazil in 2003. She probably just bought it from target on the way home haha
There was so much hype behind this set. I can’t even begin to explain. This is one of those toys I’d keep by my bedside when I was young for multiple nights in a row. Technically the only fully manifested set version of Makuta ever sold. (You could argue the Ultimate Dume version from 2004, but idk)
I wish I could clearly remember getting this set as a kid for the first time, but I imagine I tried to rip the box open in the car on the way home full of excitement. I wish we got another version down the line that did even better justice to the Makuta, but in a way it makes this set more special than it already is
I remember getting him in the two pack with Takanuva, walking into the room and seeing that box is a memory so deeply etched into my brain I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.
@@tristanlee8495 right? Totally. Also I’m pretty sure I had that Makuta-Nui beast looking combiner built out for a year or two just cause I thought it looked so cool.
They also had makuta icarax during the phantoka/mistika wave, even using the same head piece but this is definitely the only teridax one like you said.
Damn bro, you're a champion for this series. There is just something about seeing sets being opened for the first time that makes all of this feel magical. Keep it up fam, and if you ever need any donations to keep this up, just let us know+
I appreciate the kind words! I agree when they're opened for the first time there's just this sense that can't be replicated any other way of feeling like a little kid again with brand new Bionicles from the store. One Monday at a time giving everyone their childhood back is our mission with this series
I remember my parents picking me up from rugby practice when I was 10 y.o and surprising me and my brother with this huge box for the og makuta model. I was so excited I studied the whole box front to back during the ride back home. It was an electrifying sensation to say the least.
This is easily my favorite bionicle set of the original three years and I’ve since made mods to mine for head fix, leg and head mods etc. great base and so imposing.
@@AllOutBrick for the base figure I just used a grey flat head axel and one of those voodoo ball pieces that the axel goes straight through as an easy fix to the pop off head.
You know for the main bad guy of the entire Bionicle series all he did was Play a game of pass the puck but he still looked cool as heck while doing it.
@@nehehehgraylois there were supposed to be a few more darker moments they had to cut. We’re lucky they were able to get as much darkness in as they did.
This set always felt so different from any other set. Even though he’s dwarfed by later titan sets, he’s just so imposing. The way the design just flows is just stunning to me. I remember seeing images of the set as a child and being so confused by the way they pulled off the multicolored eyes. As a character, his design is so unique, too. The way that Nuva claw piece sat between the shoulders always tickled me, just one of those satisfying designs where the pieces felt like they were meant to go together. After getting the set, I noticed the problems like the voodoo ball parts not holding the head on, and the shoulder armor parts just wouldn’t stay together, especially the little gasket parts holding on the Nuva chests, but none of it detracted from how much I loved this set, and still do. It’s my absolute favorite, and that is probably due to my personal nostalgia, which I’m fine with, and understand others disagreeing. I really wish I never took him apart. Aside from all that, great review, loved seeing this model handled and talked about without the nostalgia goggles on!
Not too long ago I found this set second-hand and it cost me around 20 dollars, an amazing find. It even included the movie version of the mask, which was just mind-blowing.
I think one of the other issues with the gear function and posability was that the center of mass in the top part was decently separated from the axis of rotation, so that's going to apply far more torque compared to the center of mass being quite close to the axis of rotation
Ah, someone who knows their physics! I agree entirely, essentially they asked the function used in the 2003 Matoran sets to handle the torque produced by the entire upper body. It was bound to have some problems.
I know that reviewing the firsts waves has been a slow process, but, there are less sets in the rest of the waves, so I like to enjoy every episode, thans a lot for this videos a love them
Im pretty sure the open, double sided ball joint is almost a direct response to this and other bioncle sets. Combined with the flat ended axel, it pretty much solves the issue of axels popping out of ball joints.

Still think this is one of the best Bionicle sets. Sure it has pretty bad gimmick of just turning the body but man that color and that mask... It'll never get old
Honestly not sure yet. G1 is an absolute guarantee, but G2 I'm a bit up in the air about. Most likely yes because they are a part of the theme, but those sets are EXPENSIVE so I don't want to guarantee G2 just yet. I guess it really doesn't matter until around Summer 2022 though
This was the only Titan set from '03 which I had, albeit a few years after it was discontinued. The official name for that color is actually "Gun Metal". After the end of this year, the Bohrok skull piece would only appear in three other sets between 2006 and 2008, one of which was an Exo-Force set.
Thanks to God I got this set, with the box, in 4 dollars, and I like him, well in my head I get the Idea of Makuta being heavy, and a little slow, but with a lot of power, I can understand why he can't move a lot, I like more this than the other one from phantoka, but I love both both

We expect some extreme huge figure to be behind everything, but we get a physically weak, but still incredibly powerful enigma of a character. I like that dynamic more than the way they ended up portraying him here.

I think that the legs are the biggest flaw with the set. They’re permanently bent so it looks like he’s squatting all the time, they’re too short so his proportions are awkward, and you can’t move the knees or feet so there’s not too much variety when posing him. I understand that they were limited by the parts available at the time, but if i got the set I’d definitely try to add an extra joint or two and that would really go a long way
just noticed that your makuta has the wrong kraahkan version ^^ its the 4-hole-chin version which was only used at makuta icarax in 2008, but in this set here it should be the 6-hole-chin version
I know that both molds were actually used in the 2003 version, but the icarax version only had the 4-hole mold. EDIT: I did some quick searching and it appears the 4-hole version was actually more rare to get during 2003 but is correct. This review used a sealed set so I must've just gotten lucky!
Makuta is like the Lich from Adventure Time: the main antagonist who despite his true form from this set, he is barely shown with it (I do not count Bionicle 2 & 3 movies), rather in disguises for his nefarious plans.
I really don't like the mask hands. It's already a stretch that the default hands are supposed to look like hands, but when you use an established part, my mind just thinks masks not hands. I think the gladiator set hands would work better, since the mask of light is supposed to look like hands.
It was the only titan I've had as a kid for a long time. And although I loved it, it's amazing set after all, the play function was more than just annoying. It was wobbly wouldn't stay still, and was falling over and over again
Hello All-Out Brick, it's been a while!😁 I'm making a video about rare Lego bricks these days. Can I use part of this video? Of course, I'll cite the source.
When you get to the next video and get to the combo model with it (tbe fourth titan) and Makuta here I do hope you reference that there is an official released set that used those 2 sets and came with a new mask that was the "Movie Mask" from MoL
Noted! I probably won't be doing the combo review as a part of the fourth Titan but rather as a separate video. I haven't decided on whether or not this will be a "2003 Combinations" review or do two separate videos: one for the Makuta Nui and one for Takutanuva
@@AllOutBrick There are theories that the Makuta Nui is actually the Garlock Ash Bear Takua and Jallar meet in mol, but the exact model is digictized and uses as the ash bear in the bionicle gba game Maze of Shadows. So some fans will see it as the ash bear and others as Makuta(given the lore that Makuta can shapeshift, either is correct) the Takutanuva model is the one that has the official set. So you could actually find a box for it with its out instructions. Usually if theres a set that has makuta in it, itll have a modified mask of shadows(Ultimate Dume is an example. But that wont be seen until 04)
@@AllOutBrick they are. But it exists. I believe the contents of all the combo boxes are actually just the boxes of the sets they are used for minus instructions for the sets. Vezon and Kardas is most likely the best way to confirm this information
I actually got both Takanuva and Makuta back when I was a kid...And I gotta say, I was quite disappointed in both of them. First off, I remember Makuta being _much more than 20 dollars._ I'm pretty sure I had to save 40 dollars before I could get either of them. When I first got Takanuva, I thought having the exclusive, super special 7th Toa in my collection would make me the coolest among my friends...It didn't. We soon realized that apart from the gold armor, he was actually one of the more _boring_ of the Toa. And I never cared that much for the speeder bike considering that I didn't really like the inclusion. I recognized it as just a means of _increasing the price_ for the set, and qualifying it as a "Titan." All I wanted was the Toa, which shouldn't have been more than 7 or 10 bucks... As for Makuta...I didn't even realize that the set _was_ Makuta based on looks alone. I had to read the box to finally realize it was him...After 3 years of anticipation and build up to seeing what Makuta actually looked like, all I could think of seeing it was... "This? This is it?" He looked so...weird. Worse, the Mask of Shadows is not that good...It looks great when it's turned upside-down, cause it gives him an inhuman vibe, like the Raakshi. But if you turn it right-side-up...it looks _stupid._ Plus, I always felt that the play-function of Makuta was a bit odd, and the build itself was too top-heavy. Plus, there are parts of him that look _exposed_ - like his armor is incomplete. Still, they are a nostalgic part of my childhood. And I can't wait to get them back. Heck, if Makuta was still 20 bucks now a days, I'd drop 100 on _five of them_ right now.
I just gave the mask of shadows, staff, and removed spinax from my Maxilos and use that as my teridax since i think Maxilos looks cooler than this teridax
@@AllOutBrick No, I remember Spinax and I may still have it. These models were bigger, black armor, and gray piping. Big box. Reminded me of Makuta's pets or something. Thanks though.
I still never liked the movie version the mask of shadows, I much more prefer his Lego set version he has. He looks more other worldly evil rather then "I'm the bad guy" face that he has in the movie.
I was always bummed I never got this set as a kid. Not only was Makuta the main bad guy, but he looked awesome too.

I may look around for that box, but they're hard to come by
@@AllOutBrick they are.
But if you turn it right-side-up...it looks _stupid._
Plus, I always felt that the play-function of Makuta was a bit odd, and the build itself was too top-heavy. Plus, there are parts of him that look _exposed_ - like his armor is incomplete.
Still, they are a nostalgic part of my childhood. And I can't wait to get them back. Heck, if Makuta was still 20 bucks now a days, I'd drop 100 on _five of them_ right now.
Where is the episode this week???
If only they released G2 Makuta ;-;
The lego magazine I have says this set was 29.99. I wonder why that is.
6:14 nice
Can't wait till you reach 2006. Where lego brought their big guns with the ttitans.
I have those Titans circled on the list
Can I ask, where are you from?
When I was a kid, I got this for my birthday. But another kid got upset I had it and stole it.
I just gave the mask of shadows, staff, and removed spinax from my Maxilos and use that as my teridax since i think Maxilos looks cooler than this teridax
0:49 Where's that from?
comic books
@@TheMasterVictory Any Bionicle comic in particular?
What is the name of a similar colored model that was something like two mechatronic Bionicle dogs with piping around the jawline/neck? Anyone know?
Are you thinking of Maxilos & Spinax?
@@AllOutBrick No, I remember Spinax and I may still have it. These models were bigger, black armor, and gray piping. Big box. Reminded me of Makuta's pets or something. Thanks though.
Makhuta = B tier
Very fittingly, when I opened up RUclips, this video had 666 views
I never got this set, cause it came out the year i was born and I didn’t get into bionicle until 08
Not to worry you can't control that, glad to see you hopped into the fandom
@@AllOutBrick i wish I could i would of gotten any of the 04 sets they seem really cool
I still never liked the movie version the mask of shadows, I much more prefer his Lego set version he has. He looks more other worldly evil rather then "I'm the bad guy" face that he has in the movie.
Great point, the set version of the mask definitely makes it feel more like it's not of this world instead of a standard "bad guy"
I had him, disappointed I took apart every bionicle I had compulsively.
The body is lighter than the Mask
Back when toys were good...
The Kanohi Avohkii for his hands really feel out of place and distracting. I wish they didn't do that
😡 WELL PLAYED, TOA! NOW I WILL PROTECT MATA NUI FROM YOU!
Makuta got defeated by a disc lol
One local seller sells him for 599€ 👀
What a deal, that's a must buy
Yo , where is new review ?
mah-KOO-tah*
I can’t understand why anyone likes this set
the whole build is hideous and the mask is boring
Furthermore the mask hands look awkward
Makuta Terridex is a dreadful character I mean his name
I have this set brand new in box. Box is like new. If anyone is interested, please contact me.
