Love that Will did this review. The GLI is far more practical and accessible than most of his cars, but still fun. I’d say the main thing that sets the GLI apart from an Audi A3/S3 is it comes in manual transmission a whereas Audi makes no manual cars. If the A3 had a manual I’d trade my GLI in immediately. That being said - you can tune the GLI and get it up to almost A3 level (of course it will never have Quattro) very economically. That makes it a super good bargain! Always make sure to have a battery booster or charger attached to the battery before starting this process. A brand new battery will have enough power but after a year or so you'll find your lights will dim. Low voltage will cause all sorts of crazy errors.
Glad you upgraded the sound system. Mine does not have the best sound quality. To me it sounds tinny. Base response is very poor too. The best stock sound system on any car I have ever owned was on my 2010 Ford Focus SES. My 1990 Chevrolet Corvette was a close second.

@will I am a Vw enthusiast and I can guarantee you will enjoy the gli more then some other cars in the same class. The GLI for the money with that new motor is a beast. I would recommend you get a dsg tune to make that paring perfect.
On lighter sportscars you typically want to keep wheels at 18" preferred or 19" max (if the brake calipers are too big). Wheels like SuperSpeed or Enkei's will weigh in at around 17-19lbs each instead of a 25-30lb average stock/aftermarket weight and give you amazing handling, braking and acceleration. Not to mention 18" tends to perform better in all conditions and the extra tire sidewall gives better launches and even wet handling, added bonus for everyday driving comfort. 19" only benefits for dry track cornering and it's not much due to 18" accelerating better of the turn. I know most people think 18" look gross but that is with FACTORY wheels. With race wheels it gives the car a superior track look. Either way, I hope this helps anyone reading this. I use 18" SuperSpeed RF06rr wheels with 275 Firestone Indy 500 tires front and 305 Mickey Thompson ET-Street rears for dry weather on my 370z TT. Also, Falken Aklimate's perform amazing for wet/snow weather.
I looked through the comments and didn’t see anyone mention this, but the engine noise you talked about is the “SoundAktor” in Sport Mode. It is exaggerating the sound inside of the vehicle. Some people don’t care for it but I think it sounds fine.

Great video Will very professional!
Thanks 👍
The way the rear wheels stick out a hair 😮💨 it looks perfect the way it’s sitting in this video bro don’t lower the front. I have a 2018 Passat shit is Boring I want a gli so bad
Price is right!
Will, do you still have the grey GLI in Columbia?
Yes I do, but I'm selling my WRX as we speak. Going to use the money to furnish my 2 other Airbnb properties and get the cash flow coming in.
Have you had any issues with your ball joints yet?
Not yet but u have just a few mikes
Watched your channel for a long time, and I'm surprised you would use such an inexpensive entry-level car for content on your channel lol
Cars for everyone
I am literally about a month away from picking a 2024 GLI 40th and it was literally because of the manual, and now I am completely set on it. What is kind of strange is it like you did every mod I was thinking of...so bless you Sir. Black out the VW rear logo and leave the side badging. Wonderful job!!!
Might as well wait for the 2025 refresh
Wil, check out the MBRP exhaust for the GLI. Had it on my 21 GLI. Sounds amazing and adds a little power. Great videos.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely look into the MBRP exhaust for the GLI.
Of course totally different car. But when I had a Mustang I had the MBRP race catback on it. There’s a clip of it in my page.
MBRP sounds great on the GLI. If you go stage 2 though with a down pipe it will be obnoxious. I’m currently tuned for 93 with an IE catback. It sounds nice. Burbles on cold start and quiet when cruising.
nice man i have a 2019 GLI 35th anniversary edition
Hey Wiil.. why you deleted your previous post? Any footage from you is great footage man!!😅
For some reason it was not getting any love. Algorithm is punishing me for some reason.
Looks great, brother.
I appreciate the kind words, brother!
looking good Will .. what's the details on the carpet stay for the subwoofer? i tried the weather tech ones and the sub still moving
they are the VW CarGo blocks.. there are a few different versions out there that arent vw branded that work well
@ thank you
Poor ? nah Will , " SMART Man's Audi RS3" 👍 💪. What's up Will , how are you ? Where do you come from ? nice to meet you. Enjoyed the video and subscribed 💯. Own other cars ? Hello from Miami , FL 🌴
Welcome Yo the channel! I’ll be moving to Florida soon!
Man you got that car looking GOOD! Those were the perfect mods for it, I was legit worried about your ECU when you were tuning it though, I'm shocked at how much of a difference the tune made, we need to do a run between it and the Type R.
Haha, yeah, the ECU tuning had me sweating too! Let's see if the mods give me the edge against the Type R. Bring it on up!
@@WillMotivation Lets do a meetup in NC and run both cars 😎
Does the sound system upgrades void warranty?
Nah unless it caused an electrical problem but not likely
Nah bro that hail in the beginning hurt me to my soul
🤣🤣👍🏽
Make sure you perform the DSG adaptation in the IE app
Yep 👍🏽 runs great now
why compare to rs3? rs3 is 5cycl. Gli can be possibly be the budget s3
Because I had an rs3 before the gli
Yo will what tune did you get I got the white one GLI getting it tinted this weekend
Congrats man. Tune is from integrated engineering
@@WillMotivation thanks Will I got the 40th anniversary one in white I ordered.it.on 7/18 on my bday and getting it this weekend I'm in Staten island NY I?guess I'll.find someone
Enjoy it bro. Super fun car!

@@WillMotivation I have golf TSI 1.8T with just a offshelf tune It was insane it gained 80 HP 😅. Yours a 2000 CC T So imagine. How much horsepower it gained?
I think around 100. It’s so good now
@@WillMotivation 😱 Bro thats 328 Whp right there amazing bring to the drag strip see what it does.
Wouldn’t the GTI be closer to the poor man’s RS3???
Did you get the 93 oct high torque or low torque ecu tune /dsg tune ? Btw 🔥🔥🔥 content !
Thanks bro. Yes I did. 93 high torque
Great video !
Thanks!
Awesome. A beautiful thing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
0:04 thats all i usually get in my GTI even if I dont totally launch it 😂
Airdesign usa has a kit for the mk7/7.5 gli
Still like my 17 GLI better. Will be interested to see the '25 GLI.
I got 2 sets of springs that'll work on your GLi =)
i thought the tcu was locked on 22+ models ?
On Audi yep. On Jetta nope
Hey yall!! How ya doing, i would like to know the tune company if i were to do the same ???
Integrated Engineering
I believe it was the one with the accident..
What camera is this? Crispy
iPhone 13 Pro. :)
Idk about comparing it to an RS3….totally different animal. But if you have one, I suppose it’s a fair assessment. The GLI is dope though. If it was awd I wouldn’t mind one.
Have to agree. I just went from a 2015 Skoda Octavia RS (basically a VW Jetta GLI) to a 2016 Audi RS3. Both VAG products, vastly different driving experience.
@@benglasby8014 HUGELY different. Lol. The RS3 is a dream car of mine. Attainable but I need to pay off my 2021 BMW X3MC first.
@@solsykness very nice! I’m very pleased with mine
I have had three rs3s. I prefer the looks of the rs3 but I prefer how the tuned gli drives. It simply has more low end responsiveness. I am really impressed
@@WillMotivation EA888 engine is certainly tuneable.
Does the tune void your warranty?
Not legally but I’m sure if there was any problems they might tu Yo blame the tune
