I've been thinking about the future of arctic warfare. How in the near future it will become one of the most necessary things for our modern military, and how we don't have a teir 2 special forces unit specializing in arctic warfare. If it's something that the DOD is considering I'd love to know.
    Thank you.

Well, I'd argue 4th IBCt of the 10th Mtn should be brought back to take 1/11's place (non-airborne) in Alaska. Mountain, air assault, and cold weather light infantry troops in support of 2/11's airborne operations in an arctic environment.
EDIT: forget to mention, they should have an LRS unit up there too.

SF has ODAs specialized in mountain warfare. If the need was that great, the Ranger Regiment would shift their training syllabus at the unit level to meet that need and they still do mountain warfare training currently.

Abrams Charter has handicapped the organization and culture of the Regiment from the beginning. If the Regiment could leave some of this stuff behind, it might have better retention. But it's not the only problem. First, it should shutdown the revolving door of officers who cycle through just to pad their resume. And like the rest of the selections, there shouldn't be separate pipelines for officers and senior enlisted. It's always been pretty scummy to have people do something you won't do yourself. I don't think I know any veterans from the Regiment that completely respect it or how its ran.

Rangers are not an infantry unit......LOL. This is why they lose out of top recruits who pick other sof units to go to...smh

What planet are you on? It is the army’s premier light infantry unit. Google is right at your finger tips, but any research or intelligence behind a statement from a marine isn’t to be expected, clearly.

Earth :) Yes, I was a marine but now serving in the regiment. We are DA and recce unit, now do we have the capability of a light infantry unit...sure we do. But for the most part that is out dated and would be a waste of our time and resources.@@nate4716

I mean an infantry unit has no meaning outside of soldiers that primarily meet combat through moving with their own feet. People apply this idea that infantry = conventional or not special. Almost all SOF are infantry at their heart and it's why rucking is often a primary means of selection.

    • @southern842
