@@TheFlyingSalesman It was terrible!! engine shop took about 14 months and then the mechanic took 7 months for the reinstall, long story, there were times I felt like my soul was leaving my body haha. Hi captain, indeed i miss the flying content amd tips that come along. Thank you for the link of website that keeps your knowledge sharp and accurate (although living in France doesn't help me much on regulations but nice to compare differences between FAA and EASA) I hope to fly jn the US some time soon. One more thing, i really appreciate you tell us going back with an instructor and test your flying skills despite the number of hours you already have. Many never show or even mention it. Lookimg forward to see this happen. Thanks again for you content, hope the engine gets fixed any time soon. Safe flying and happy landings ✈️
Glad to hear that you have a plan moving forward. I’m hoping to get our #6 cylinder back on this week and get back to flying. Had to send out for an overhauled unit due to cracked valve guide and erroded hole through exhaust port! Happy flying! Hope we both get up sooner than later!👍
Hello Matt, you had a video where youn noted a power loss or higher egt’s in flight and In am trying to to remember what was the cause of it. So, problem is i have no4 cyl running about 110deg hotter, all other cylinders are running perfectly fuel flow and temps are normal. I think you stated that the problem was magneto issue. I would love to review that video. Can you tell me what the tittle was?
I think you have me mixed up with another RUclipsr... My issue is corrosion in the cylinders. I did notice a lack of power recently and my flight yesterday with the new lifters seemed to help. I am happy to discuss further and you are welcome to send me an email. info@theflyingsalesman.com
We (myself, A&P, and engine shop) have discussed this at great length. New lifters and old cam is not uncommon. Both the A&P and Engine shop were in agreement as to next steps.
@@TheFlyingSalesman Basic physics. In a 24-hour weather cycle, the temperature difference causes warm air to cool after sundown & moisture droplets to form. Just like the morning dew on the grass, it forms inside engines. Starting the engine & BRINGING IT UP TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE (even if you don't fly) keeps the moving parts cleaned & coated with lubricant. Oil might need changing even more during periods of idleness; the same moisture on the cylinder walls & lifters collects in the oil. Some oils stick to metal parts better. Synthetics, like Mobile 1 (automotive only) are optimal for coating parts. But may not be formulated for aviation gas. To get up to speed on oil choices, check out this article: Engine Lube 101: Weight, Temps, Analysis Still, start the engine and bring it up to temperature as a maintenance procedure. Or, maybe fly more often (shorter trips but the same hours).
Spend the money and 100% synthetic. Maybe if they make a 20W-50 for aviation piston engines. Exxon Aviation Elite 20W-50 is an excellent semi-synthetic. I also stay sharp using X-Plane 12 or MSFS2020. When I’m at the airport I’ll use the Redbird and log the approaches, missed approaches and circle to lands.
@@prodigalpilot well they have a semi synthetic, which is ashless desperant , and should be OK because it is approved for aviation use. I just never liked monograde oils.
just got my Lance back from overhaul, took 22 months!! so good to have it back and breaking it in.
Ugh! that sounds terrible!

Curious, how much time is on the motor? When was it last overhauled? Do you run Aeroshell or Philips Xc20-50?

Is it a good idea to mix new lifters with an old cam, you may want to research that

Rust is the issue. Fly more often to keep the cylinders & other parts wet with oil (to eliminate condensation forming rust.)
