India has also started building the next highest motorable road in Eastern Ladakh, which will be even higher than Umlingla Pass. The new road will pass through altitudes of more than 19,400 feet.
Next time you visit India, try a bike trip to some amazing places. You can ride from Gangtok to Nathu La, Coorg to Munnar, Bhalukpong to Tawang, the Rann of Kutch, or Valparai to Vazhachal Forest. The Western Ghats in South India and the Eastern Himalayas in the Northeast are especially beautiful. Places like Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Kerala, Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh are some of the best to explore in India.
What a coincidence, you guys overtook us at @11:11 the blue Ford guy had pick up issues with his engine. We met him at the chismule bridge cafe. Photi la made him believe his car has engine issues 😀 so we were driving behind him just in case he needed some help. Later on we all went together all the way beyond umling-la right up to demchok village near China border.
Another to job on the video Vanessa. That drone footage was great. The off road part was interesting for the short cut on the way back looked fun and the bikes handled it well. All good and all safe is a great result. I've never ridden an Enfield and I don't ride anymore but hopefully one day I'll have the chance.
Watching with a hint of pity (for myself). TODAY I was supposed to be at Umling La, yet I broke my leg , yes on motorcycle accident, I am in full plaster cast instead. At least I can watch your video! Thanks.
Technically this whole region right from himachal and JnK criss crosses the Great Himalayan range, Zanskar range, Ladakh range and the Karakoram ranges ( northern parts towards turtuk side). Technically this should be the Ladakh range. The southern parts of this region extends into the Kailash ranges part of trans Himalayan systems. So this is not just the Himalayas but trans himalayan sections criss crossed as well. Interestingly one of the major and famous ITSZ suture/fault line also passes close to this region where you are. Ladakh batholith subject as well. This is a geologist's paradise as well. So much to explore and research 🤗 apart from exquisite scenery of course. This region also has some interesting world famous stories about alien sightings as well since decades. Ladakh's a never ending encyclopedia. The more one delves into it the more intriguing it becomes 😅
How does that thin air affect the performance of the motor? It needs oxygen for combustion and if that is cut in half, I would expect a loss in power from the motor. I'm losing my breathe from just watching you on those twisty roads and that beautiful scenery.
All depends if it is carburettored or fuel injected and controlled by an ECU, if the latter then the tuning will automatically adjust and you won't notice a thing except maybe a bit less top-end power. For carburettored bikes it's going to be running a bit rich.
It would be interesting if someone tries this route in Winter. I assume there wouldn't be that much snow in Umling la as it is super dry.But the temperatures would be less than -30C and with windchill it might be deadly.
One can kind of see who of you three was in desert rallies before! ☺That still was a great team effort, hats off to all three of you! 🤗 Imagine doing this ride on the 411 Himalayan. That bike would have less than 10hp left at that altitude! 😵💫

-Congrats & well done Vanessa & team, what a great achievement!! What I also find fascinating is that in the middle of nowhere, you see roads that are barely there and full of rocks and gravel and then suddenly there's several Km of tarmac, sometimes in great conditions, how crazy is that?! Thanks for sharing another awesome episode!! 👍👍
Thanks so much, mega appreciate your kind words! It’s wild, isn’t it? Those random stretches of tarmac in the middle of nowhere, such a contrast to the rugged terrain. Glad you enjoyed the episode! 😊
The packet of crisp (chips) is puffed up because you're at a high altitude where atmospheric pressure is reduced. The crisp packet was packed at 1 atm pressure so now the pressure inside the packet is more than what's outside. That's why it's puffed up. They don't fill it with extra air or anything 😅
@@ianthepelican2709 you didn't get my point. I literally said they don't fill it with air. I'm merely saying the packet gets puffed up at higher altitude due to low atmospheric pressure due to which the gas inside the packet expands, whatever gas it may be.
That is what I meant as to why there is so much 'emptiness' in a packet hehe, poor explenation on my behalf, I think I was just concentrting on breathing and not getting puffed haha. But thank you for clarifying and explaining it in a much better way hehe
@@TheGirlOnABike a bottle of water at that altitude does the opposite and becomes squeezed automatically, try emptying one, see it squeezing as u climb and demonstrate what lungs are going through 👍 also there's a magnetic hill in that region where stationary vehicles in nuetral get moved automatically, if possible experience that .
Love your videos, just curious how well did the RE Himalayan do at that altitude, if they were as good as they seem then RE should make you and ambassador!
there was a little bit of power loss as you would expect, 50% oxygen levels. You can’t expect any combustion engine to run exactly the same. But with a fuel injection I really was blown away by how well they performed. Even Umling la you could ride it like you stole it and have a very sporty good time. The Royal Enfield genuinely impressed me. I’d actually welcome being an ambassador for them because I think for the money and what you get, they are an incredible bike.

Every combustion engine loses power with altitude. Basic physics.
Pretty much . Although not sure about an exact technical figure.
@@jaguarunleashed4935 About 3.3% power loss per 1000 feet of altitude.
Divide your engines horse power figure by 29.92.
