    Nice job. I like the slow speed; will save you from crushing stuff when the shop beers are flowing. Good work!

    If you could figure out a way to add some counterweights to the door, you could open and close it a lot quicker and with less power. Perhaps counterweights could be added with bars that extend up from the door or with cables and weights.
    Really neat door and system. Thanks for sharing it.

    Nice job. The side loading on the cylinder rods scares me though. While safe, It may put larger stress on the seals. Cylinders are rated for ZERO side loads.

    Nice solution for that, where did you find all the components? I need a system like that in order to lift a window I opened to a container wall

    Donde compraste los pistones hidráulicos?? Y qué fuerza tiene cada uno??
    Gracias y saludos desde Costa Rica

    Did you use a flow divider to ensure that the cylinders on each side raised at the same rate? How long were the cylinders, and what diameter? Thanks in advance.

    Looks like it'll do the trick good job, by chance do you have a mechanical backup in the works incase there's no power or a line blows?

    What’s the technical name for this type of this rigid door? I’d like to do a half ramp door and half door for the loading door (like this one) for a box truck and I am looking for ideas. I was thinking screw drive or winch drive.

    I don't care what any of these jokers say, that's a neat system.

    @JamesGlassProperties Not a requirement. Excavator booms don't have them either. Just let em fall

    • @Taylor_in_AK
      @Taylor_in_AK 6 лет назад

      ....which is why you set excavator buckets down when not in use. I know someone who was killed working under a dumptruck when the hydraulics failed.
      People walking under a door held up by hydraulics only is not ok.

    Can you please tell us the detail of how you built it- eg. where you sourced the gas struts, motor, how you framed it, etc.?

    • @tobaccofarmer4life
      @tobaccofarmer4life  4 года назад +1

      Independence City Motoring the hydraulics came from www.surpluscenter.com hoses I get made locally, and the aluminum frames I built with a mixture of 3x3 tubing I ordered and 3x3 extruded slotted material I had kicking around . Then I just mounted regular insulated garage door panels to frame. There’s no manual or blueprint I just built it.

    That's really cool but kinda slow opening and closing, do you have to press the button the whole time or is it automatic?

    As a follow up, I found a company I just found that says the mechanical latch is intergral to the arm so if there was a hydraulic breach, the door would not fall. Did you just a compnay like this?

    How did you know what cylinder stroke you needed? I'm building a 14ft tall like this. Have zero idea what size is needed or how to figure it.

    • @tobaccofarmer4life
      @tobaccofarmer4life  2 года назад

      Only depends on where you want to mount cylinder on wall and door . Obviously the further the mount is on door the less stress there is on door . Don’t over think it just get like a 5’ cylinder at least that’s what I think mine are .

    While I appreciate the innovated use of hydraulics, I have some safety concerns. Is there a mechancial safety system in the event of hydraulic breach? I didn't see or hear a pawl style safety latch system. If you had a catastrophic hydraulic failure and the door fell without a safety latch system, injury or death would be the result for anyone under the door. The second concern is the postion and funtionality of the piston assembly--it appears to have unacceptable stress points. PE sign off?

    I really can't say for sure but I know I have in 60mph and the door did not move at all. Its usually really windy here and I havent had a problem due to wind.

    Is there an advantage to this configuration over a pneumatic system with a roll up?

    • @tobaccofarmer4life
      @tobaccofarmer4life  5 лет назад +1

      Well that's a very subjective question. I always hated when the traditional door rolls inside and blocks the lights above them. This way allows me to install lighting directly to door and create a lit canopy for additional lighting. another advantage is the r value of door. The panels from CHI are R 17 and I added additional 4" of closed cell spray foam which supposed to be 24 so 41 total. Good luck finding a rollup door with that kind of R value.
