    In Toronto, Canada the minimum wage is $17.00/hour now and if you work 40hours/week you get only $680.00 before taxes and with a minimum 16% taxation you are only left with $571.00/week which is roughly $2,284.00/month. There is 0% vacancy of rental units in the $1,500/month bracket in Toronto and Vancouver area. You would need to have a minimum wage of $33.25/hour or $5,320/month in order to afford any rental units and pay for your food and utilities.

    • @sirant
      @sirant  3 месяца назад +3

      Yeah, I saw that stat before.... Horrible. I didn't know the minimum wage had gone up. Even still, with no housing/rental controls the corporations and rich landlords are taking advantage. It is ridiculous... Thanks for sharing!

      @@sirant The minimum wage went up on May 1st to $17.00/hour in Ontario and to $15.75/hour in Quebec. The Canadian Government will never be able to build sufficient affordable housing and whatever little amounts they build will take years and be over budget ! Canada should stop reinventing the wheel when China has a solution for them which can be built in less than a week ! ruclips.net/video/IJn2BzNhYjA/видео.html

      @@sirant You can't blame the landlords because tenants actually have more power than landlords.with the current laws. Is it fair that the landlord can only raise the rent to 0.7% max per year while his property taxes are rising 5%-12% per year ? The system is so screwed up it is unreal. The provincial government is in charge of the rental board while the municipal government is charge of property taxation, the raises don't even match one another by a long shot !

    • @sirant
      @sirant  3 месяца назад +1

      The system is screwed up and the average landlord is not the problem. It is the corporate landlords who know every loophole in the system to take advantage of the system. The rent control in Ontario is actually 2.5%, not 0.7%, has been since the beginning of 2023. On top of that, "Any rental unit built after Nov. 15, 2018, is not subject to provincial rent control. That doesn't just mean a new apartment building, it also includes additions to existing buildings or an unfinished area like a basement or attic that's been converted into an apartment." (as per CBC news link to full article below) Landlords can also claim to be doing renovations to increase that 2.5% or if their property taxes go up, they are also allowed to increase rents once again to match. But the worst of all is that when a current tenant under rent control moves out, then the landlord can jack the price up as much as they want. With the current and ever growing housing crisis in Canada it leaves people terrified to have to leave their rent controlled apartments knowing full well they may never find the same pricing again. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/how-does-rent-control-in-ontario-work-1.6978670

    • @etow8034
      @etow8034 3 месяца назад

      @@sirant This is why landlords want to kick out long time tenants so they can renovate and increase the rents. The Quebec tenant board still lists the maximum rent increase at 0.7% and the new tenants can also ask the cost the rent of the previous tenant. I have friends who are landlords who can only charge $650/month long time tenants for a 5-1/2 while the landlord next door is charging $1500+ for the same arrangement of new tenants which doesn't seem fair at all. The city also passed by-laws that developer must allot 20% of their development to low income housing of face a fine, the developers would rather pay the fine. So as you can see they are trying pass everything onto the landlords while the government is doing dick all , but collect taxes. Low income housing is not the responsibility of developers or landlords the government at all levels should not be forcing developers to solve their issues and problems ! ruclips.net/video/TO-iq7O2FzY/видео.html

    I live in a subsidized housing unit for the elderly which is 30% of net income as per Notice of Assessment from the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) here in Edmonton with the GEF (Greater Edmonton Foundation). I get the maximum of the minimum pension possible so I pay about $680 per month which includes electricity. I don't smoke nor drink and don't have a car and so, I can eat well and not worry. I have been thinking of going back to China as my family is from the Guangdong area of Toisan. I wonder what that would be like. Thanks for your insights and videos. Cheers from Edmonton. Go Oilers.

The homeless population has visually increased in past ten years cross entire Canada, the worst would be the biggest cities like Toronto and Vancouver where the homelessness look disastrous.

    Perhaps it would be clearer to the viewers if you could present the house rental cost as an average persentage of NET household income for the comparison. Afterall, income levels and currencies are different between the two countries.

    • @sirant
      @sirant  3 месяца назад

      Hmm, I don't really think so, to be honest. This video is making a comparison of a single rental value, $800CAD (4300 RMB). It is not an in-depth study of the socioeconomic factors influenced by population, NET household incomes and currency values. That would be a MUCH longer video. My channel is more about sharing my own personal perspective and experiences.

    Which Chinese city do u live?
    To be fair, if you're living in a tier 3 Chinese city without a foreigner in sight then it's highly debatable if it's even worth it to move there. There's no way you can get a 3 bdrm new unit in any tier 1 city for $800.
    In Vancouver, you can't even get a 1 bedroom shared unit for $800. 😂

      Shenzhen in this video is almost the city with the highest rent in China.
      -
      There is a city in China called Hegang, where the cost of buying (NOT renting) a house is less than USD2,000.
      Usually such a house includes a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom.
      In fact, many home-based workers (such as internet writers) choose to move to Hegang because it doesn't matter if they live in any city.

      Well, far too many options to list or even look at, even at $300 per month. A lot really depends where you live and what neighborhood. In a smaller, tier 3 city, you could get a decent 2 bedroom+ for that money or less. Easily. Not so great if you are new to China and can't speak Chinese though, as foreigners would be few and far between. But even here in Shenzhen, in my neighborhood, close to shopping and the Metro, you can find a place like this for under $200US per month. sz.lianjia.com/zufang/SZ1891046865898569728.html?nav=0&unique_id=1c88e2e5-2dc7-440a-a6d2-0d07476e8ef0zufangrp21717417762092
