@@jonathanhensley896 I'll be hitting other topics, but I can promise the format will be just as engaging 🤝🏾
MLMs are parasites, they just take and take. Glad I happened upon this video, so well done. Bravo!
Well done you! This is excellent content! I was in Mary Kay U.K. and there’s a huge group of black women who got trapped in there. The alleged number one world wide in Mary Kay was Gloria Mayfield Banks. Look her up!
Bro I use to sell verve also once I started getting busy the FTC closed them down. The product was good, but once they kept talking about the money mostly it took away from the product
One of my homeboys tried to recruit me for his coffee business. I remember his sales pitch: “How much is a gallon of gas? Me: $2.87. Him: A pack of this coffee is $5.85. This is more expensive than gas bro. Coffee is the future” I literally got up and left the room. Years later, I was like “yo bro remember that scam you tried to get me in?” He goes “yeah them mofos got me” 😂Lol
Lmao what a pitch. I would've had the exact same reaction
I came back specifically to say "Coffee is the future" is hilarious

I know I typically consume 3-5 packs of coffee driving to work every morning. Logic is a beautiful thing.

people are slow to speak out on mlms cuz they are afriad of being deemed 'hating on someones hustle' but it goes double for fubu businesses cuz the race card comes into play unfortunately
it's a culture of shaming similar to the crypto space's "FUD" (fear, uncertainty, doubt). But there's another layer of hating on your own that gets thrown in. I've gotten accused of it in this comment section many times.
There should be a culture around shaming people who fall for MLMs.

Great video. Women have been scamming other women for YEARS with MLMs, your equation of need and desperation making you a target is spot on. My own aunt convinced me to invest $3000 in Mary Kay when I had a baby and was desperate. Did nothing but create CC debt and make me feel like I was a loser, when obviously it’s a saturated market
Thanks for being here Jen. What a terrible thing for your aunt to do, good lord. Glad you were able to come out the other side, how's your relationship with that aunt?
Your aunt presented you with a business opportunity, it was your own lack of work ethic, lack of motivation & drive, lack of wanting to better yourself that led to you being in debt. Because thousands of others have turned this opportunity into a consistent 6 figure income, where they are able to achieve complete financial freedom & even travel the world through paid for trips by the company. It’s easy to deflect our personal failures onto others, but sometimes we need to accept responsibility for our own actions sweetheart.
@@macysondheim what you're not gonna do is attack women in my comment section fam. Be brainwashed in your own corner of the internet.
@@macysondheimThis is very true... Last time I checked Mary Kay is responsible for the most women millionaires in the US.
I grew up in Network Marketing. My father was wildly successful in several companies and developed a 5 figure monthly income. I myself did "pretty" good in several companies but I never made more than 10k a month. As a person that participated in the MLM industry I can tell you first hand that most people who join are lazy and scared of rejection. You literally have to be fearless in talking to mass amounts of people until you find the ones that want to join. Most people hardly talk to anyone and when they get told no and their feelings get hurt they want to quit and claim "the business doesn't work".
The business is NOT for everyone.. especially those with no work ethic to sell/recruit other distributors or for people who will quit at the first sign of adversity.

My mom fell for an "education investment" scam suggested by her friends and it's specifically targeted for immigrant parents that think they're doing the best for their children. It's disturbing how the Korean churches is a festering ground for MLM schemes because they're mostly targeting vulnerable immigrant families.
it hurts especially to hear about immigrant families being taken advantage of, including those who at times don't have the best grasp of English or cultural norms. Nobody deserves that
Was it one of the Moonies Unification churches?
Korean people and Japanese people can sometimes be terrible at questioning things (high trust societies). At least Chinese people know everything is a scam lol.
It's especially insidious in faith communities as well as groups of all types because trust can be abused and avarice is a universal temptation, especially among those looked to as authority figures. For that reason, we all carry a responsibility to search for and resist avarice in ourselves the higher we rise in life and calling it out when we observe it in the world.
Props to CamJames for calling it out!
@@skibbityb1 : While there would be a certain irony to MLM operators working inside a cult that founders weren't profiting from, there are many faith communities based out of South Korea that have nothing to do with Moon. I've seen MLM worked in communities of many shared beliefs, sometimes faith, other times things like politics or patriotism.
This is what I’ve been saying for years. The person who gonna scam isn’t always the guy you hate but the one you implicitly trust.

Plays on the “trust tribe members”and fear those outside the tribe which js a product evolution. So common that it has a name: Affinity fraud is a type of investment fraud in which a con artist targets members of an identifiable group based on things such as race, age, religion, etc. The fraudster either is or pretends to be, a member of the group. Often the fraudster promotes a Ponzi or pyramid scheme.
"Fun" fact, the dude who had the longest running Ponzi scheme in American history did it by exclusively hitting up Mormons as a member of the Mormon church.
You’ve been saying that for years?
This gave me flashbacks to when we were kids and we had to do those sale fundraisers. We would go door to door selling overpriced goods that no one one wanted and depending on how much you sold, you would get anything from a slinky to a cheap kaleidoscope.

Knew an older gent in NYC some time ago, who'd just done twenty for fraud, and learnt a few things from him. One of the most important being this: "the hardest people to grift are the honest ones, while the easiest are the needy, the greedy, and the believers." and about believers he said this: "it doesn't matter what people believe, it's the act of believing that makes them vulnerable, because belief is an doorway their souls, all he ever had to do was find the key to that door, and he'd own them". He said he found it both depressing and amusing, that it was usually those he ripped off for the most, who were his greatest defenders.
Keep it on the swivel✌🏾

My MLM story. I'm a black woman who lives in the Midwest. An older white lady who lives in my apartment building immediately showed fondness towards me, and I actually appreciated it because it has been tough making friends out here. We went out to the park and some shows a couple times, and I learned that she was dealing with chronic pain from extensive joint surgeries. We got to talking about covid and she said she reluctantly got vaccinated once but never again cos she didn't trust it. I was like, okay, that's cool. Next thing I know, she's talking about this supplement that she's selling that basically cured her pain, and made Jesus walk on water. I thought it was weird until she invited me to a marketing meeting, and sent me brochures to expose me to the product. I'm a scientist so I was looking for scientific journals or medical professionals addressing the supplement...not a one. She further explained that she knew people who had become millionaires from the product due to how effective and popular it is. That's, all those people except her of course. I noped out of that and have never heard from her again - not even to just hangout. Sad.
They are user.. They see you as a mark at all times.. it's devastating when you thought you had made a good friend!!
Thank you for telling your story. This happens to so many people, over and over again. So many holes in her explanation and the lack of science would be one of my first red flags too.
There people are usually overly friendly until they determine you're not buying what they're selling. Then you don't exist if they can't make money off you. These are not nice people.
agreed, they switch up quick
The ones who know what going on, even the lower ones to an extent but mostly it's a cult. They're losing money, don't have time cause they're trying to make it back, being told to hussle 24/8 to be successful, cut off anyone who tells you it's a scam. Freaking cult
Bro this ain’t new. My parents fell for Amway in the 80s. Uncle and Aunt fell for one in the 90s. I got invited to a “gathering of cool people” in the aughts. The scams don’t change because people are greedy. Hopefully people get the message today, but my expectations for humanity are extremely low.
I live in an area with a really large hispanic population. Herbalife goes out of their way to target hardworking immigrants who want to make a better life for themselves and their families. Spanish language marketing, hispanic spokespeople, anything they can do to seem approachable by that demographic. They have the drive and work ethic these companies prey on when they sell their stories about building a better life.
i've seen those stories in the Herbalife doc, there were a lot of Hispanic families victimized (and still are).
Partially true. The jobs migrants are the jobs most Americans won't work. Landscaping, construction, field hands, janitors, etc. Jobs that are generally frowned upon by the general public.
neither black nor white people are native to north america lol. not taking sides here but you aren't owed anything by birthright so focus moreso on the legislation in place rather than pin things on another race or whatever. You'd do the same thing in their shoes, so the problem isn't them
Funny you mention that because I remember seeing the Herbalife building here in New York and it borderlines a Hispanic community 😨😨😨

they're very good at tapping into that desperation
I hate these scammers that prey on people's desire for community. People have to stop being greedy as well. That's where these things get started....
It's all greed at its core
Greed is dangerous. Everyone wants to get rich quick but that’s not how it works.
It's greed on the part of the people at the top of the pyramid/MLM but the people who are at the bottom of the pyramid are usually desperately poor and/or hate working for corporate America (hostile work environment) and want to own their own business, set their own hours, etc.

Ran into another black man and he seemed so sincere when we were discussing business plans. He offered my a free mentor ship and lied to my face because the whole time he was just trying to get me into the MLM pyramid scheme. And don’t even get me started on the BLM movement. $60M+ in one year and we barely see any change. Shit is sick but it reminds me not a skin folk is kin folk and the people that match your vibe are a part of your vibe no matter what they look like.
"Not all skinfolk is kinfolk" is a mantra I live by. BLM was a damn shame, I might have to talk about them smh
Damn, I haven't heard that saying but it is so true. I've always hated when people just stick up for others based on race, regardless of the circumstances. Trust me, I know my own white community is horrible about this too... maybe this is my own bias speaking, but it seems to be a huge issue within the black community. I'm consistently blown away when I see black people being clearly taken advatange of by one of their own, but they'll defend that person just because their skin tone matches. Again, I know white people do this too... but I don't see them defend their own when they're the ones getting scammed, at least not very often. Sure, white people will irrationally defend their own, but if a person screws them over then they're pretty quick to turn on that person and quit defending them.
I really wish we as a society would get away from this tribalistic mindset. I was lucky enough to marry into an extremely diverse family. It's awesome seeing such a large group of people from every different race/background you can imagine get together and just enjoy life. We can all talk openly about anything and everyone is simply a person. Life is too short and too hard to be wasting time on stuff like worrying about skin color. Just find people who have similar values to you and focus on enjoying it.

The MLMs (aka Network Marketing) programs are borderline legal and just skimming under the ponzi radar by having these “products” as a front. Without the products, they are a recruiting ponzi business.
Unfortunately, the affiliate marketing model is also becoming similar. The “product” in affiliate marketing often times is “training” to be successful. They are marketers, selling marketing to other marketers to sell marketing to other marketers. And don’t have a legitimate product.
This being said, there are affiliate programs that have legitimate products and services, that pay commissions in the affiliate, marketing world.
The big warning ⚠️ sign, is talking about the money, constantly talking about the money constantly talking about the money. Money, money , money.
In business, money is obvious, it’s the product, service, or the cause that is important.
Thanks again for sharing this wisdom. 👍💕

Great video! My first MLM experience was vector/cutCo. Fortunately, a friend happened to be at the initial meeting. We didn't know or understand what an MLM was back then, but the whole setup didn't seem like a viable long term business to either of us (we were highschoolers at the time so the fact that children can see through this was hillarious). We ended up just leaving mid meeting. These MLM companies will go into highschools and ask for students phone numbers. That should be illegal. You can cover that on a deep dive video.
Unfortunately you were right, the people who stayed at the meeting, and roasted us for giving up such a golden opportunity, were highschoolers with children, people who really needed a break, and people who didn't really understand how business works. I really hope content like this gets out to the right people.
I appreciate the story and you hit the nail on the head. It’s really devious how these companies can prey on people whose brains aren’t even fully developed yet and trick them into something that’s going to end up ruining their life. it’s nuts.

I went to one of these meetings because a friend told me it'll be a good hangout (never trust "friends" that you havent heard from in decades, that basically groom you into showing up for these out of nowhere), and it's all predatory - you are supposed to be part of select few invited to speak with "Mr.X", a visionary secret billionaire that is accidentally in town to share his money making wisdom with you... and then you get to a random hotel and theres probably 2000 of black folk out there, all dressed very nicely... and then some dude just shows up and starts saying "broddas and sistas" every 2 words, and then "lord provides" and "do we not deserve better" and then "Let the non-believers leave the room" ... before finally actually saying what the scheme is - its basically a debit card of some sort that you do all your purchases with. I didn't stick around long enough to learn more, but they are basically going after the most vulnerable and poor in their schemes.
all that checks out. Using religion and cultural ties to dupe ppl is repetitive at this point

MLMs are just the most apparent form of FUBU capitalism. This all really begins with the split between W.E.B. DuBois an Booker T. Washington. On the one side you have the argument that the emancipation and development of black civil society is found through labor organization, the analysis of history, and broad emancipatory politics that focus upon the poor; on the other side is the idea that black people will be served by developing a black elite that can compete with the white elite in America. Time and again it is clear that the development of a black elite does little for the rest of us. Once money is accumulated and consolidated it stays where it is and as so many corporations project this image of ethics and care (and as more black people go to college and gain access to that bourgeois strata that was unattainable for so long) it becomes clearer that a new social class does not pull black people out of poverty.
The crazy thing is that Booker T Washington changed his view on the black elite helping the community toward the end of his life.
@@TyMarie92 do you have any essays that you would suggest?
@@michaelcarrig627 I was wrong! It was W.E.B. Du Bois about his talented tenth. I can't find the source anymore. It was some years ago when I first found it.
I really think you have the two mixed up - are we really to believe Booker T Washington's worldview is the one that won out? Are black Americans today conservative and deeply Christian the way Washington and his followers were?
Do we really think the welfare atate has ultimately been a good thing?
When I read Washington I see old school Christian principles more than "black elite" - focus on virtue, family, community, take agency over your life and accept that which you cannot change...
Is it not the DuBois model of focusing on politics - and placing civil rights type political leaders in positions of influence - that's actually ascendent these days, and seems to be making things worse? Is it not the case that there is now a black elite who rise to political power then turn around and insist to all the other blacks that perpetual victimhood and demanding reparations and the like is the way forward?
this might blow your mind, but it turns out you aren't entitled to things just because you're black, and that includes not being entitled to other black people's money
Bro great video and great narration for everything. Let me tell you a funny story, I was finishing my undergrad while driving Uber to pay bills. Mind you I'm in my mid 30s and I just applied to Law School. I pick up this couple at a hotel and the trip was to the airport. Along with them was another lady that was with them but they didn't know, they met her at the hotel. So we start talking and they flew there for a "convention" . So now I'm thinking, cool... many professionals fly to conventions. Turns out when I asked what it was about, she was super secretive, and wanted to tell me it's a great opportunity, they were all amped up lmao I was like OH NO this sounds like a damn MLM and she just got hypnotized by what they fed her. So I'm telling her I'm in the process of becoming an attorney. She goes " Well if you do this opportunity you might forego those plans " , I did the biggest EYE ROLL I ever did in my life. OMG, you want me to stop my dreams of becoming an attorney to join a SCAM MLM?!?!?!!! I felt bad , she told me to exchange numbers with her husband and awkwardly I just kept silent. I dropped them off and that was it.
yiiikes lol, wow. drove UBER briefly and the people you meet are definitely the most interesting (and sometimes unpleasant) part

Are you sure she did it on purpose
? I can say from experience that it's hard to see that it's a scam when you've gotten deep into their "educational programs ". She may have been genuinely trying to help, and she might need someone to help her see what's really going on.
@@TheBargainista101 no she knew. maybe not at first but she knew when she took my money. I watch a ton of anti-mlm content and haven't really seen anyone focusing on this aspect! I understand you're not an anti-mlm creator, but I think your perspective is very needed in the community!
that's very nice of you to say, thank you! i try to present ideas in a way i haven't seen anyone else do it, it excites me. i can pretty confidently say i'll be returning to this topic at some point, the interest is clearly there
This isn’t just a thing in America, unfortunately in Ireland where I’m from my mother really almost bought into an mlm scheme, which pre pandemic were getting more common, they thankfully seem to have died down
I can’t believe I’m catching you before 5k subscribers. I wish you continued success!
I used to sell Cutco to my family and luckily at that time they didn’t require me to put a down deposit or anything, I just didn’t make much money and what little money I made was on my parents and uncles buying some knives that were overpriced and unnecessary. Crazy how these scams are still running strong.
as long as there's money, there will be new scams. thank you for being here!
I sold Cutco here on Long Island. I think their goal was to sell you that starter sales kit. It was only like $100. My parents still have the knives 25 years later. My dad used to be a butcher and he said the knives are actually very good quality. But yeah Cutco was definitely very scammy.
They had a shell company on Long Island called Vector marketing.
FWIW Vector Marketing is a legitimate sales company with CUTCO. I was a district manager for them for four years. It was an awesome decision for me, but it definitely depends on if your manager gives a shit about you or not. I've heard tons of stories that didn't match my experience, but are almost certainly true. Sucks that y'all had bad experiences.
I haven’t finished the video yet but already crazy respect for watching scam and MLM videos and getting into it yourself. Crazy balls to just do it and do it with high quality brother
Now I’ve finished it and I was right. These dudes are such fucking goobers. The MLM/Crypto shit is a personality trait
i appreciate that bro, thanks for taking the time to watch. I've been a content creator forever but there's definitely something intimidating about stepping into an area where you've never been. Figured somebody had to shine a light on these in 4K.
You would think that these scammers would go legit after making so much money but they don’t.. they continue to scam and as crazy as it sounds a lot of them die broke and lonely.
That's the confusing part; I've never understood why there isn't a stopping point after people earn a certain amount. I wouldn't start a scam in the first place though, guess i just can't relate to that greed.
@@CamJames same! I stopped trying to figure it out a long time ago.
@@CamJamesThe same people that selling raffle tickets at the intersection, there's no drawing🤣
This shows that money or throwing money at a problem to solve it specifically does not solve anything. Once the corrupted gets money, havoc ensues...
they are pathological. from personal experience, they just dont feel 'right' unless someone is getting the shaft. at the same time they need acceptance, validation and admiration from the people they scam. its crazy!
I’m really glad you’re talking about this, the more we talk about MLMs predatory behavior, the more people are aware and can stay safe, especially people in vulnerable situations
Generational wealth absolutely requires financial education. Something like 70% of fortunes are lost in the first generation and 90% are lost by the second. Don't leave behind as much as possible for the kids, set them up with a minimum and let them know that while they will never starve or be without a home, if they want luxuries, it will have to be earned. That's how I intend to create generational wealth - and I will do it via Trusts. Remember: if you don't plan, you plan to fail
Please be careful with trust. People lose their money all the time. One thing to consider is releasing funds after 25 or 30.
Very well done. I have a group of friends at my church who are caught up with the a way cult. I’ve distanced myself from them. Sad how predatory these companies are being.

"Generational wealth" and "generational curses" these phrases popped up or became popularized, almost mantras, in the last 5 years or so. And the two are linked because breaking alleged generational curses is supposed to be a first step in establishing generational wealth. I wonder who is behind it all? 🤔 (Somewhat rhetorical question).

The Credit repair services are another major scam going on.
I worked with a guy briefly at a major Govt. Contractor who was very hooked into the DC political scene (family friends with Mayor) that just went and joined some 'start up' credit repair business aimed at minorities.
He previously had to testify in hearings due to major issues with a Hospital their 3 person company was running which had no experience running hospitals ever (company included a relative of his and her husband. The husband stepped down from Boards in DC over the past few years due to 'perceived' corruption. They also had a family member hired to the Mayors team after a donation from that husband!). This Hospital contract was a No-bid contract awarded directly to them by Mayor.
How evil do you have to be to award millions of dollars and give control of a Hospital to a 3 person company of your friends that have ZERO experience managing any kind of Healthcare facility, let alone a major Hospital?
The level of fiscal and moral irresponsibility that blooms from the seed of MLM membership has no bounds. They stop seeing their fellow humans as people, it's sickening. Thanks for your story fam! I'll add that to my list for a follow-up as well.
This showed up randomly in my recommended.

Glad more people are talking about this! Sadly it’s a big problem on our community and I barely see blk folks educating/talking about it
Thank you for being here! Clearly i chose the right topic to start with.
Idk about all that. Tony the closer and a few others has been exposing alot of scams but because alot of these scammers have money the regular folks eat that shit up and they turn against the people who are exposing the scammers. What I’ve come to realize is to not look bad as a race people will allow all sorts of shit to happen to their own kind because they don’t wana be perceived a certain way. I mean the most common rhetoric the scammer fans make is “see when a black man gets a little bit of money they always wana hate” mfer it’s not hate it’s people in the community tryna hold other people accountable but because people in the community know they will have to hold themselves accountable it’s a lot more easier to just tell people to mind their business then to hold yourself accountable for the mistakes of your people.
And when you decline this BS, they exclaim “That’s why we will never get anywhere as a people”
🚨@9:18 I had a meeting with a Boomerang Rep. He was a textbook MLM sales pitch guru. And of course sprinkled in plenty of "were black", "the culture" and "generational wealth" talking points. He emailed me at least once a month until I blocked him 🤦🏾♂️

Don’t forget time shares when u don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything. Thanks for shining light on this if it saves a few people you’ve gained much respect
can't forget timeshares...and the mostly older people they prey on. John Oliver did an excellent piece on those
And thank you!
@@CamJames yeah that John Oliver video is excellent! My wife's sister and her husband recently signed up for "fractional real estate". Sounds exactly like a "time share", except it's not somehow. I didn't read the paperwork or ask too many questions, but I hope it turns out well for them. Instead of just being a single location, you can go to different places, but still seems pretty much the same as a timeshare. I'm sure there's probably some good use cases for fractional real estate, but I'm sure the majority of the companies are just scamming. In the end, I'd rather pay for a hotel or air bnb instead of signing any contracts.
