Indeed! The heart of man is capable of so much evil. Their murder was senseless and it angers me. But there is still hope.
The worth and dignity of a soul is measured by what it delights in! And delight/happiness is our highest desire.
Men have killed to have it. Kings have gone mad trying to find it. Wars have served it. Affairs have worshiped it. We all seek it.
Sadly, billions have died without discovering its secret... namely, that joy is not an it, but a He.
The Gospel is the good news that sinners can delight in a Holy God. It's the good news that all of our deepest desires are satisfied in the ONE who sent His Son to bring us to Him.
God is so valuable and so satisfying that the most loving thing he could do for us is to make Himself gloriously indispensable. He is the only being in the universe for whom self-exaltation is the highest virtue.
Therefore, God's commitment to be glorified and our goal to be satisfied are not at odds but come to simultaneous consumation in the worship of His Son... who took upon Himself the Wrath that God had towards us in our sinful disregard of Him. A wrath that could never be appeased through man-made religion.
Jesus didn't die to turn the world into a paradise, he died so that we could stop seeking paradise in the world...
Temporal things such as beauty, popularity, money, sex, racial identity, gender reassignment... can never truly satisfy. BECAUSE WE WERE MADE FOR SO MUCH MORE!
We were made to gaze intently into the Eternal Beauty of a majestic King, Father, and God... meet Jesus the Christ.

I remember following this story. When I was a teenager we were grungers and all the chavs used to shout stuff in the street. So when this happened 10 years later I remember feeling quite connected to them and wanted them to pull through, checking the paper for updates. It stayed with me and I never forgot about it. I even remember Sophie's dad getting a tattoo of her over his chest. I'm so pleased Robert made a good recovery but my heart bleeds for Sophie's family. It's unbelievable that this can happen just for the way someone dresses. I'm glad this documentary was made, people should be reminded.

Her boyfriend was very clear that there was no such thing as goth-phobia. They could have been two kids with red hair. They could have been gay / non-binary...whatever. Their attackers were feral thugs with no-marks for parents. The parents here really should have been on trial too. I remember a copper saying that he'd interviewed a suspect along with his mother. He was disgusted to see that at one point the "mother" giggled. That's how two kids beaten into a coma for no reason bothered her. Why do these people breed when they have zero interest in parenting?

Someone I had on MySpace (back in the day) changed his name for Sophie, when I clicked his profile it turned out he knew her, that's how I found out what happened. I never knew her, but my heart hit the floor when I read what had happened, that she'd been murdered for the way she dressed, the horrific violence she went through for no good reason, I still get shivers thinking about it.
I remember when the murderers were sentenced, I kept refreshing the news on my phone on my way home from college, hoping to see they'd get a descent amount of time, but it wasn't enough.
This story hit me so hard back when I first heard about it. Even today, when all my old goth friends have grown up and lived wonderful lives, I feel sad this poor girl never got a chance because of her clothes.

Sophie will never be forgotten. I didn't know her at all but it's quite clear that she was such a gentle, brave, loving soul. What happened to her is unspeakably tragic and it's beyond the power of words to express the level of grief felt by those she left behind. But she was also so much more than her untimely death - she was a human being and the memories and love she gave will remain. Those who walk to their own beat are often the most emotionally intelligent, empathetic and human of us all - they're in another stratosphere of existence that others could never attain. Celebrate that difference; it's a gift. You are all beautiful! Raising a glass to Sophie, and to the Goth Community worldwide. Much love 🤘

What an incredible woman, to do something so constructive after such mindless destruction. I want to support Sophie's Foundation as soon as I've got a dime to my name. Difference, creativity, daring to explore outside of the norm, is what makes life worth living. It takes a brave, beautiful individual to live there. It takes the tyranny of 'civilised' societies' megalomaniacal demagogues and their blind little foot soldiers to strip us all of our selfhood. We all have to fight against the normalisation of such violence. RIP, Sophie, I was a teenager when it happened, and remember so clearly. It only becomes more shocking the older you get, and the more you see of the world.

the documentary is on iPlayer and most definitely worth watching- so harrowing and hard to watch but the relationship between Rob and Sophie is displayed beautifully. The strength of the families for allowing this documentary to be made is incredible and is such an important legacy for Sophie.

Everybody should be treated the same.Just because some people look different doesn't mean they should be treated differently.Imagen the world if everybody was the same it would be so boring so instead of bullying people we should embrace there diferences.Shame on the people who did that.I originally heard that from a woman who came to my school and when i first heard that story i was horrified. P.S sorry for my spelling mistakes not grait at grammar.

This is just something I feel I have to come back to every now and then. I feel deep sadness for Sophie and for Robert. What they had was precious. True Soul mates. I would want nothing more than to find what they had. But what shocked me was how Robert was able to carry on after. What does it take to find that strength inside? I was always into gothic stuff. Music for example. Clothing. I never went all out. I always admired people with their own style. I feel sadness but then I feel anger because I never want those that took her life to get out. I hope Ryan and Brendan Rot. As each day of their lives passes by knowing that they will never be loved.

I saw that movie a few days ago. and it brought me practically to my knees. cause im goth and i find that alottt of gothic people are completely miss understood. same as transgendered people considering im one of them also. If i had a relationship with someone at that age and learned they'd died. and i survived or vice-vs-a we'd be pretty much devistated. And wanting revenge. the gothic lifestyle is nothing but a culture. same as how alott of cultures are. but alott more passionate. Christians are passionate about believing in jesus christ. and believing that he to be the son of the all mighty god of creationism. And damning others to a place full, of suffering and torment. same with other religions. But on different levels. My condolences to the girl whom was murdered. But for anyone else. think of this. what If your family member, mate, or any other person. you knew was murdered for being whom they were. you wouldnt like that what-so-ever. you would state. how dare you? how could you? whats your Mount function? Just because people dont look nor act the same doesnt mean we all aren't loving. Stop hurting,. stop killing,. this is coming from a transwoman goth girl. Call me what you wish to call me. "Freak". Whitch ever. doesnt matter. Everyone needs to stop hating. I dont know what more to say. but seriously.? And that so call evil devil music you all see us listening to. that's our escape..! like your rap/hiphop is for the majority of society. And in all honesty that music is a story that artists tell that they themselves have gone through. No one is perfect. But alott pretend that they are. So feel free to believe what you wish. but, leave others out of your foolishness thoughts. Thankyou

How heartbreaking😭 I couldn't even imagine anyone again inflicting a deadly out rage like this. This beautiful child taking on her identity to set apart what's built inside. Her mother IF I could offer cuddles. I hope her short life has positive ramifications for other to still be who they are. ( never change to fit it ) And for the few insulant corn holes who take offense there is either a lesson learned or consequences beyond life for people who think killing or injuring someone because of their uniqueness is justified.
