  • @PanDownTiltLeft
    @PanDownTiltLeft 2 года назад

    Nice video. A couple of other things to consider here are that let's say you have an S16 size sensor on one camera that has a 2.88 times smaller frame than a full frame camera. So if you put a 100mm lens on the full frame and a 35mm lens on the s16 to replicate the field of view of the 100mm on the full frame, you will get a similar field of view but the image compression will be vastly different and give a very different look between the cameras. Also, Cinematographers also like to use focal lengths like 65mm, 27mm and 32mm etc. due to the fact that they are typically focal lengths that are not found in still lenses and the cinematographers want to ensure that their look is not like a consumer camera's or still camera's look. Roger Deacons (among others) talks about doing this for that reason.

    Wow, that was really helpful, especially the part with the lens compression! Thanks for sharing!

  • @Smoothblue90
    @Smoothblue90 6 лет назад

    So. I have been thinking about this. The "compression" you are talking about not just the lens. It is the relationship between the lens focal length and the distance between the subject and the sensor plane. So, to me, one of the reasons to have different focal length lenses, is if you are taking images of the same person at different "crops". So if you take a picture of someone waist up, and then another feet up, then if you "zoomed with your feet" you would actually produce images with different looking faces. But if you stood the same length away, and took the feet up pictures with a wider lens, and took the waist up pictures with more of a normal to tele, then the look of the face should be similar in different photos in a set or series. I think that is part of what engagement photographers are doing when they stand about the same distance from their subjects, but changes lenses.

    Great video. Thank you for the comparisons. Just to add a bit more, the different focal lengths and how it portrays your subject and the compression can be used to drive your story. For example, I’d consider using the the a wider angle lens to perhaps portray my subject as weak and further removed from his sorrounding as there is less compression. Whereas the the less wide focal lens can be used to portray a stronger subject more in touch with his sorrounding. Anyways keep up the good work.
