One of my favorite episode! Seeing the great Sensei Ford learning some new perspectives to is own style! This shows that no matter what color belt you have, you always have something to learn! Thank you for showing us that we do not know everything, Sensei Ford!
I'm a 40 year old gold belt, just started out two months ago - training under Brian Hobson. I loved watching this video and realizing that I'm definitely training under the absolute best there is!
Sensational interview. Sensei McCammon is so interesting and passionate when he share his personal history with Shorin Ryu. Such a good man and gentleman representing martial arts.
I've trained in other martial arts, but I'm interested in this style. Especially since a Shorin-Ryu dojo opened near me. Never too late to pick up a new style, especially since I can get my kids into it with me. :-)
+Neth M. Koepke Asesome! Thanks for your comment and happy training!
I love the Naihanchi interpretation -- it's a very unique bunkai. Great interview!
Absolutely brilliant, It makes me regret for the first time living in Australia and so far away from these two gentlemen.
Those are great kata's and form.....Willie Mcntosh once County commissioner of Shelby NC...was the greatest teacher ive ever had the pleasure of knowing and learning from....💯 Respect)- Red...
Love his breakdown of the Bunkai.
Awesome episode. Really loved hearing McCammon Sensei speak about teaching children.
P.S. also smiled when you mentioned Stolsmark Sensei
I liked this episode very much. The togetherness that is in your system is great to hear and to see. Just come and train.
+Sensei Christopher Shabazz Thank you, YES!
Absolutely one of my favorite episodes ! Thank you for sharing !
I started doing this in 1998 out of rick Moore academy in Columbus Ohio i have me 2nd degree black belt (Nidan) still one of my proudest moments....it feels great watching this....I can see me and my brother in them kids...
I trained under Sensei Frost in Gahanna, Ohio who got his Black belt under Master Moore.
And I trained under Master Moore too. Yellow 1 green tip... My father trained under Paul Keller and Dave Rupart, with Master Moore in the 70's.
Really great episode. As a martial arts enthusiast and buff, this was really awesome. Finding a common thread between Ba-Gua circle walking and Shorin Ryu ashii is dope.
+Daz BonesTV I know right? Thanks for watching!
Yeah I liked that immensely as well! Thats what we are supposed to do as Martial Artists. Study< examine, and practice the systems in which we are a part of. Thanks for sharing in that.
Another great episode!
Excellent episode Sensei!
🙏👊
Cobra kai “Sweep the leg” 11:08 🐍! Who else thought of karate kid 😂. I love the video though great katas!
Yes!!! Cobra Kai!
Thank you did your wonderful RUclips channel
Greetings from the Philippines! If there is a country which has a lot of Shorin Ryu practitioners it is the Philippines.Usually it is mixed with Arnis as weapons art.
+Ben Murphy That’s great to hear!
This is great. My Sensei, Sensei James Mclain passed and he had a tremendous following in Shuri Ryu in Nashville TN. Watching this has me practicing in my kitchen wishing I could go train...lol. Great Vid!
Chris Hooper Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it. 👊
Another great episode! Loved Sensei's message at the end, that if we harness our energy anything is possible. I have always believed there is nothing that I can't do, it is just a matter of using your qi as Sensei said.
This was a great episode. My primary form of Martial Art is Shotokan Karate but I have cross-trained in many other forms of art and Martial Artists of color, are not often given there just due. I have to say I truly enjoyed this post. The face of the Martial Arts world is covered with Asians and white males. There are great teachers out there in this world both Male, Female, Black, Indian, and the like. There is more than what's is always portrayed as the only Masters around and I have had the pleasure of training with a few of them. Master Hardgrove is one of the true gems of Karate. Hanshi Hobson is another and in that line, so is your guest in this episode. Thank you for your post. Please keep up the great work. Domo and Oss.
Thank you!!!
Great episode and fantastic interview! I liked seeing the very small variances between Sensei Ford’s Nai Hanshi Shodan and the rest of the class at NRK Karate. It helps explain why so much bunkai can be derived from a single kata. Thank you Sensei Ford!
+Russell Riviere Thank you so much for watching and for your comment! I am forever a white belt. Train well, Be safe, my friend!
William Ford
I just found this, excited! I used to train in a Shorin-ryu association led by the great Ahagon sensei, and now in Shorinkan.
Hanshi Brian Hobson is not only my former sensei, but also cousin and his dojo is down the street from me. If you have time to stop by in Hampton Virginia come on down
What an awesome instructor!
Sensei Brian Hobson is a cool dude. I trained with Rodney Cheeseman when I was younger.
I must lern shorin ryu karate
👊
I would love to train with this teacher.
Every Shotokan practitioner should train with Kobayashi ryu if they are all like this.
Mccammon shorin ryu techniques punch kick push teach students
Naihanchi, the core of Shorin- Ryu 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Loved the kata and doing blocks with two hands. I was scolded the other day by my Sensei for using one hand!! I was not aware it was wrong! I am a green belt who is raw, but very hungry for knowledge and hungry to get better always. Oss
What's the point of scolding you?
He blew a perfect teaching opportunity.
It was more of a correction. I don't think I've ever heard him yell actually
very cool :)
+setokaiba200x 👊🙏
Great episode, this one flew under my radar somehow. One question, what is that belt the Sensei is wearing?
I believe that the red and white belt is with by practitioners who are 7th, 8th, or 9th dan.
I never yield in a throw technique anymore, and if they can’t throw me, then they practice harder - even modified so they can use what’s in their best interest at the moment, but I haven’t been thrown yet. Once they fail at throwing me I throw them with the same technique, and hopefully one day they get me down 👌🏽
What tribe are u?
OSS? Why?
Osu!
Too much tension. After a technique you need to completely relax. Check out Rick Hotton and or Andre Bertel.
Great!

@@SenseiFord Excellent expose and Sensei McCammon was very engaging and humble. I hope to see more. There is someone called Kaichō Farzinzad, and he founded IKU or International Kyokushin Union and works with Autistic kids for free; i.e., he has a program set up for them. Well, if ever interested, please reach out to me: ikunyc@gmail.com; OSU!!!!
+Sensei Rivera Thank you so much! 👊
@@SenseiFord OSU!!!
Ohh oh, two senseis have egos towards each other! 😆
He corrected your form first so you had every right to question him next. 😁
