I have been binging your "Anyway, That's the Way I Heard it" podcasts via RUclips. You are an intriguing and well-spoken man. Thank you for bringing these stories to light and memorializing them, it's important. I wanted to thank you for your wit, your humanity and your honesty, it is quite refreshing these days, even if I am listening to older content.
This was 5 yr ago, i just found you mr Mike, of course i loved all the dirty jobs, but had no knowledge of podcast, but then again i worked a lot, longhaul trucker, but i found the podcast now and will enjoy and replay ever chanch i can, live long, may life be good to you.

I work second shift as a security guard. Workers showing up for third shift greet me with "Good Morning" because it is - to them. But I respond with "Have a good night" because it is night to me! We laugh and everyone is all smiles.
In Japan, you always say "good morning" the first time you see a coworker on a given day. (You also say "happy new year" the first time you see someone in a given year... even if it's June by the time you see them!)
If my dad were alive today, I'd have him applying his unique talent for sharpening knives to ridiculously razor sharpness, as a side gig. He tried to teach me but I just never 'got the feel of it'.. I asked him how he learned.. He said 'by fiddling with them'. Ok, if you say so.. But any knife dad touched suddenly became a thing to be feared. I still have a 1 inch crescent shaped scar on my left pointer finger from a slip from 1 of dad's knives. It required 10 stitches and the ER DR said I was 1 mm away from severing the tendon. 1 could pick any knife dad had sharpened out of the kitchen drawer and shave 1's face with it. In fact, no knife was returned to said drawer unless he could shave his ample forearm hair (dry) off with it, clean to the skin. Before hunting season, people in my family would give dad their knives to be sharpened, so that field dressing would be a snap. Often times dad would wrap straight blade knives in electrical tape upon delivery, saying "it's sharp, unwrap it only when you intend to use it". That was warning enough to really watch out! He has been gone since 03, but I still have a couple of 're-dressed' Buck and Sheridan knives that dad played with, left unused by me. And yeah, they are stupid sharp. Just thought I'd share that story. Peace.
Mike, your musings about "good morning" reminded me of this quote from The Hobbit: “Good Morning!" said Bilbo, and he meant it. The sun was shining, and the grass was very green. But Gandalf looked at him from under long bushy eyebrows that stuck out further than the brim of his shady hat. "What do you mean?" he said. "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?" "All of them at once," said Bilbo. "And a very fine morning for a pipe of tobacco out of doors, into the bargain.
Being a knife enthusiast, I paused this video to check out the company that made your Genesis knife, and Patrick seems like an amazing craftsman. Due to your endorsement, I will be purchasing a Genisis or Genisis 2...Thank you.
I say Good Morning in the afternoon and evening to make people get out of their pre-programmed and mundane responses. It seems to spark brain activity in some, and at the very least, it puts a smile on someone's face.
Patrick Roehrman I paused this video to research Mike's knife, and I will purchase the Genisis or Genisis 2 as soon as I can..... congratulations to you and your wife on the newest addition to your family.....take care.
I hope you contacted the people who gave you gifts before you sold them online. I would not be happy if i gave someone a gift, especially one I made, only to find out they didn't keep it.
