  • From the fertile and creative mind of Leo Visscher come two new innovations he's currently working on. First a wheel structure meant to cover and extend the life of disc brakes on velomobiles. Then a milled aluminum mesh structure for forming inexpensive and robust parts of a velomobile shell.

I am currently thinking about brake umbrellas for especially my cargo quad as well. Leaving drum brakes in the past for velomobiles would be interesting as well and one of the often mentioned drawbacks is that the dirty disks wear out quickly.

A very tempting approach is to create custom parts that are perfect for the velomobile, rather than using standard bicycle parts. This opens up new opportunities for implementing ideas and optimization. But my main question is how much this can be justified in terms of price. Especially about the cost of maintenance. And risks. And if the company goes bankrupt, where to get spare parts?

How are the shapes created? is the mesh laid over a form and pounded in shape? Can the shapes formed by hand? How does the aluminum screen maintain its shape without falling flat?

What is that expanding mesh called? I really want to learn more about it but having trouble finding examples. It's very interesting
