My mom owns a pediatrics clinic and after she saw my planted aquariums she asked me to make some for the clinic. Its crazy to me that people chose this small of tanks to showcase at a clinic. My mom decided to buy a 55 Gallon tank and i stocked it and decorated it. I come by weekly to clean it and such. It hurts me to see people make these kinds of tanks......
I was at the pet store trying to get guppies yesterday. My brother who knows nothing was like "How many, 8, 9, 10 11, 12.....". Then an employee came and asked how big our tank is and we settled with 4 male guppies in a 10 gallon. Before giving us the fish, we were asked questions like "Do you have the proper food for the fish, do you already have other fish in there, do you have your tank set up". My brother found it annoying but I'm glad that they actually care. They even gave me some free dwarf water lettuce.
That's the same with my son. He's 4, and really wants way more fish that our tanks can handle. Good that the guys from the store we usually go know us and our setups and know how to say "sorry, but that's not going to work"

Just discovered your channel and watched your fish tank reviews for 2 hours straight. Then I went to sleep and had two hours of the best fish tank dreams ever! I even had a mermaid in one of those tanks and the coolest fish one could ever dream of. 😂 Now I really need more tanks. Thanks for that, really made my day! 😎
You have no idea how much I’ve loved putting Fish Tank Review on every Monday and sitting in front of my aquarium to admire it! I’ve watched your FTRs for a long time, but over the past half year I’ve really gotten into this hobby and am planning on setting up many more tanks and your videos have been like a little tradition to go along with my newfound aquatic addiction-I mean hobby… :) soon I will graduate from keeping plants and microfauna to fish, and the fish and I will keep watching! Thanks Chirs!
Ahoyhoy FTR Crew! Wishing all an amazingly awesome week!! Spoil your pets and touch aquatic plants instead of grass if you don't feel like venturing out. It still counts! 🙏💙✌️
If you have duckweed, get one of the larger apple snails. I cant tell you how many times they have cleared my tanks of duckweed. I have to go out of my snail free tanks to replenish often.
I have that same phobia. Nothing better than being woke up about four in the morning to the sound of a dry filter and then stepping in hundreds of gallons of water on the floor.
That's why you fill it in stages over the course of several days, like a quarter at a time. That way, it's a gentle stress-test, check for leaks and even if it does break, at least there's no fish in it.
I just picture that person's wife casually remarking about how the fish food was a little more expensive this time and then a gallon of flakes shows up 😂
I also have an office themed fish tank. The only difference is mine is a natural 20 gallon planted tank with a plakat koi betta named Dwight and 3 red dwarf coral platies, Jim, Angela and Pam
The whole Budweiser thing got me lol. If I wasn’t already a subscriber I would have subscribed 2 more times . I sent you a message on Instagram; I do construction and today , had a house we went to to replace their kitchen floor and I saw an 8 gallon tank I believe, with a huge Oscar in it !! No plants no nothing , just the Oscar and filter and heater . She said she had it for a long time and I couldn’t stop thinking about it and looking and taking pictures the whole time working . I got some good pictures I would love for you to review this horrible tank I saw today. When I saw it I instantly thought of your channel.
I spent a good few hours sifting through old rainbow gravel to pick out the white, and black ones to repurpose them for my more mature, natural tank. It’s kinda nice that my tank has a piece of the past in it.
Hey Chris, thanks for all the content, you actually inspired me to get my first planted tank. Its cycling right now, but there are a lot of detritus worms and the dirted substrate seems to be colouring the water. Ammonia is high too. I really hope it clears up soon, but tips would be appreciated. Thank you!
As a fellow dirted substrate enjoyer I advise you to read up on Diana Walstad's method but I will try giving you some quick breakdowns: 1 to 1.5inch of organic potting soil followed by 2 inches of gravel / sand as the top layer, you never want a dirted substrate in direct contact with the water without sand or gravel in between as it causes way too much unnecessary detritus and having a sand top layer acts as sort of a barrier preventing excessive nutrients from the dirt to go into the water and eliminating future algae issues, this would also help your ammonia issues and will benefit your plants long term. Consider investing in some robust floater plants like salvinia as they soak up ammonia very well, As a future note, dirted substrates lack Iron so you should either dose it with a fertilizer or a very common strategy is to get regular red clay, forming it into balls or tabs and adding several of them into the dirt as they are very rich in Iron, fixing eventual iron deficiencies that may happen. Good luck!
Yo, chris, I just got the scare of my lifetime. My hob filter failed a few days ago and I thought I had an issue with my socket. I was going to buy one tomorrow but I opened the filter and it was hot af. I then went on to perform emergency surgery on it. Somehow, it and I survived after being on with no water for 3 days. And BTW I'm making sure I win next banner contest
Regarding buying too much fishfood. Flakes and tabs and pellets etc can all the bagged and frozen to increase the expiration date. Like, buying a bigger amount is mostly cheaper, so buy big, freeze in portions and use it up as time goes on. of course you cant keep it frozen forever but it stays fresh when frozen longer than it stays fresh in an open can. Just make sure to suck most of the air out of the bags and dont get anything wet and youre good!
That's putting the retro in retro gaming for sure. I had this weird toy as a child, looked kinda like a hand held console or a phone (except way before those were a thing) with letters and numbers on it and it would make animal noises I think. Not sure how exactly it worked but whenever I remember I had that thing I have this weird need to get it back? Sticking with my switch for now but yeah, I get it.
Snacks... usually fruit. Right now papaya and starfruit because it is free from my dad's tree and is in season. At work usually off cuts of waffle , chocolate chips or grapes.
Hi Chirs! I've been watching for a while and I love your videos! I don't currently own any fish, but thanks to you, I feel better prepared for when I do get fish of my own :)
QOTW: My go-to snack? Depends on where I am and my mood. At home it's usually cherry or mint chip ice cream or sometimes I bake cookies. On the run or at work? Mars bar or any chocolate that isn't Nestle
0:17 Wow yeah the same type of person that puts Bettas in a 1/8th gallon bowl would also have a microwave aquarium, put a giant HOB on a 5 gallon tank, and only have 60% water in all of their tanks. Oh yeah and puts goldfish in a cheeseballs container.
QOTW: my snack on the go is actually an apple. Live in the north east and it’s the perfect time of the year to freshly pick my favorite snack. Went last week. An apple a day right 😁😉

The worst part about the tiny, cheap, uninhabitable enclosures for ANY small pets is when they inevitably don't sell because they're unethical and cruel, they get clearance priced like CRAZY to really cheap so they can get rid of them. So it just perpetuates the cycle of these terrible enclosures being pushed to the public as a 'bargain', 'fun', and 'safe and ethical' for your pets, especially to the uneducated who think fish can live happily in a fish bowl of tap water.

Yeah, you can spend a lot less money on fish tanks depending on time of year. Obviously you have big sales, but wait around when college gets out and get 20+ gallon tanks for dirt cheap from college students and those moving away. But that's delayed gratification
Honestly who needs that much fish food? o_o Sure you can have a lot of tanks but I feel like a normal-sized can would do a better job. As you said that'll probably all go bad before you're able to finish it. Also I love the scape on that harlequin rasbora tank, with the rocks and wood and anubias, but... looks way too small for them :( edit: Holy smokes, I was mindblown by that massive tank reveal! That thing is huge, you see how small all those angels look in it? Livin the life I'd say (Like, there are people who say that 20 gallons is okay for a single angel...and there's this guy.) Hello I need a little advice from you or anyone professional in the comments So I'm new to this hobby and got my first ever tank on Tuesday (24/10/23) and added 5 goldfishes to it. We didn't cycle the tank because we knew nothing about it and the local pet shop owner added the fish to the tank on the same day we got the tank. Since that day two of my fishes have already died; one from swim bladder disease and the second from I don't know what. One of the three fishes (named "Goldie") looks in a very bad condition and it is sideways floating in the tank but is breathing. My tank is all cloudy and that might be because it is not cycled. Also I only have artificial plants (pls don't be mad) and I want to get live plants for a better environment for the fish. ( In the middle of typing this i went to check the tank and found Goldie 'dead' RIP love ) So now that I have only 2 fishes left 😢, do i cycle the tank with the goldfish or do i return the 2 goldfishes to the shop and cycle the tank for a week and then bring back the goldfishes Pls give your advice 🙏🙏
Depends on type of goldfish if 2 fancy goldfish and u have 29 gallon or larger would do 50% daily water changes with no gravel vac until test show your cycled. If commons return and try a different type of fish they need very large tanks.

Hello

My tank is all cloudy and that might be because it is not cycled. Also I only have artificial plants (pls don't be mad) and I want to get live plants for a better environment for the fish.
( In the middle of typing this i went to check the tank and found Goldie 'dead' RIP love )
So now that I have only 2 fishes left 😢, do i cycle the tank with the goldfish or do i return the 2 goldfishes to the shop and cycle the tank for a week and then bring back the goldfishes

Depends on type of goldfish if 2 fancy goldfish and u have 29 gallon or larger would do 50% daily water changes with no gravel vac until test show your cycled. If commons return and try a different type of fish they need very large tanks.
