We had one in an indoor pond in my parents fish store that someone had brought to us because it outgrew their tank (...). Had to move it to a tank with a lid because even though we had signs telling them not to, people constantly tried to touch the fish and I'm pretty sure he could take your finger right off. Not a carnivore but those teeth are no joke...
I got a tiny goldfish when I was in school for biology class, something about observing behavior. It's been well over 10 years and several tanks now, and he's a big happy boi. People need to realize that goldfish can live long and healthy lives if they're looked after properly.
My childhood bestie got her goldfish from one of those carnival games and had "Goldie," for about 15 years or something? I'm just guessing because I'm PRETTY sure she still had her when we went to college, but we'd gone to different schools after elementary, so I'm not CERTAIN. Lucky you to have your tank reviewed by Chris💚 not sure why he thought it was five gallon looks too long to be a 5-gallon to me. Keep up the great work
I grow basil. It’s so difficult to grow from seed but I bought a small half dead plant at my local grocery store and did a hydroponic type setup with clay beads in a pot in one of my tanks. That plant took off! It’s huge now. You should definitely try it and there’s nothing better than fresh basil.
Hydroponics is fun. I’d recommend trying a different seed source for your basil or perhaps another variety. I prefer sweet basil. It’s always done well for me. Genovese is a little strong smelling for my taste, but it’s probably good for pesto.
I usually have zero expectations with beginners, but I'm glad they post their terrible mistakes looking for help, specifically so I can help them. Contrary to popular belief, most beginners learn more from patient advice givers than if they get lamb basted over being a beginner, which likely results in more benefit to their fish than if they feel like giving up.
7:15 that is exactly what my mom thought fish tanks looked like. Then I showed what the internet had to say about it and she was amazed at all the plants and natural decoration!
There are no freshwater cephalopods. However, octopi have been known to leave saltwater enclosures and move to fresh water enclosures to get food. They can tolerate it for 30-60mins-ish iirc.
So...funny thing, as a person that's been in the hobby 25+ years, the plain "nightmare" tank actually makes me think of 4 scenarios where that might not be the worst setup in the world. 1: It's a quarantine tank where you have new fish in quarantine before adding them to the tank to make sure they are not sick. 2: It's a hospital tank where you are treating fish sick with parasites, so you don't want a substrate that can make it harder to kill all the parasites, like worms, like camallanus cotti. 3: It's a conditioning tank where you are feeding a group of fish heavily with live food like blackworms and other things that could disappear into a substrate, before attempting to breed them. Not having plants and stuff makes sure the fish is full of eggs but most likely won't spawn until either they are moved to the tank where conditions are better for spawning, or a spawning mop is added. 4: It's your reserve tank you had on hand just in case something were to happen to your main tank...and something happened...gotta save the swimmy friends!

Sorry for leaving multiple comments; I can't find my first to edit this on, but 7:04 I had a friend in childhood who's parents had one full reef aquarium and then several barren aquariums like this one. The fish were VERY well taken care of but there was no decoration. They're a big reason I didn't have fish as a kid because I saw how much maintenance it took and how much time the husband spent with the fish, but that's what all but one of his tanks looked like

There’s a little spindly nub of a dorsal fun, but his back does not show any signs of ever having a full dorsal fin. Basil is one of the easiest plants to grow with aquaponics. You could keep a healthy basil plant alive, indefinitely, in a 20 gallon tank. Basil, parsley, and mint are all EZ mode to grow either hydroponically, or with aquaponics.
I had bad luck with parsley and cilantro. My leaves always got tough. I tried tap water, filtered, distilled. Two different types of nutrients. It’s possible the seeds just weren’t good for hydroponics, but I’m sticking to soil for them. Hydroponics is so much fun if you like science and experimenting.
@@labachaterairlandesa I grow mine in rafts, with net pots and porous substrate. Cilantro and flat leaf parsley don't like wet feet, so I use Japanese parsley (Oenanthe javanica), also known as water celery. Basil and mint love wet feet as well.

my former friend use to have 3 or 4 goldfish in a small probably 3 gallon tank. the water was cloudy and one of the fish was blind. i was surprised to learn they've had them for years. its not like they couldnt afford a better tank as they had a lot of money. they did have a filter but it quite literally was dripping a drop every 30 seconds they never cleaned it im surprised they lived so long
Coming to the defense of the tank at 6:15 - it may not be aesthetically pleasing, but for a single black moor that's not awful. The smattering of gravel on the one side suggests to me that the keeper was informed that goldfish do better kept on bare bottom and tried to remove what could have been in there before, there's a heater and the bubble filter is a gentle option for filtration for clumsy fish, no decor for it to get hurt on. Can't speak for the other two fish in the tank since I can't ID and an open top isn't optimal for mystery snails since they can accidentally travel outside and die if they can't find their way back to the water, but I would say if it was just the black moor that it wouldn't be bad. Not pretty, but far from the worst we've seen here. Another fun FTR, we'll see ya next week! 😊
sup chirs, re: basil... i had some 2-gallons jars with some java fern and java moss and i let them go wild with snails, and it qquuickly established an equilibrium with oregano and basil in rockwool cubes in net cups held up by chopsticks... it was no water changes clean in 4 weeks, i just had to trim roots and plants every week or so and the herbs were super productive. i never ever fed the setup and the snails handled all the algae -- dirted af of course, thanks for all the tips
I grow basil and have a new one each year come up from the seeds before. They grow well in pond water so you should have a great basil garden. Remember to trim the seed heads unless you want your basil to make the seeds! :)
Get to the grocery store or your local hardware store, go into the garden section and get you some basil. It is easy to grow, great starter terrestrial plant. Get some potting soil, upgrade its pot, water daily, 8 hours of sunlight or grow-light recommended. Trim often to make it bushy. Basil is great, I have grown many different kinds.
Chris, I’m in Washington and basil goes awesome here and you can grill outside and you can grow it in water in a jar on your windowsill or the Fishtank or in soil in your house. I would love all your videos always make my first break on Monday at work awesome.❤
I watched like 50 shrimp video's on what to do. What not to do. Easy beginner mistakes. How to take care of plants. What diseases the shrimp can get. What they need to eat. How hard is the water? Ph? Sunlight? Waterflow? So I'm all good now. 😊
i would love to see you get into saltwater and watch you go through the new learning curves! sounds like a lot of fun. i've always been so intrigued but so intimidated by saltwater
That “vegetarian paranha” you were talking about are called pacu. They have human like square teeth used for cracking open hard tree nuts in their native habitats, but when they are invasive and have nothing to eat, they turn to chomping on people. Specifically any dangly bits they can find (yes THOSE “dangly bits”).
I bought a blue betta with white fins and thought that was pretty cool. Well a month later its fins were all blue except for the very tips! Awesome to see them gain color.
Don't know of any freshwater octopi known to science, let alone in the hobby, and I can’t imagine they’d be that big either! And macroalgae is actually easier to care for than corals since they aren't as finicky or demanding, though most people only use it for refugiums
Thank you for posting! After having to go to the emergency vets for my cat today (still no idea whats wrong with him :[ ) this helped me be able to relax for a few minutes so thank you
Well. I needed to do a water change today, but I threw out my back or something and can't even lean over. So I don't know what I'm going to do now. Good thing there are live plants at least..
okay that awful looking beginner 'fish tank' at around 6:15 could possibly be a hospital or quarantine tank in which case I'm mostly worried about it's position on the stand, the colour of the water could be from medicine in the water. QOTW: potatoes, so versatile!
Vectorisation means turning something into maths! Instead of a 'rastor' or bitmap image that gets blurry when you scale it, a vector can be resized infinitely and stay exactly the same.
if your friend show you a very sad fish tank, offer them some 'upgrades' with the excess cuttings from your own tanks. do it as good as you can. They'll eventually either get into fishkeeping /aquascaping properly or ask you to help him make it as good as yours
Just created a new betta tank thanks for all your vids helping me into the world of fish I used your you suck at fish tanks vid to help me make it it has spider wood light colored sand and is planted
I honestly never had fish or was interested in getting them, big into houseplants tho and this channel is so informative and interesting and kinda led me to fish tube and now I’m considering selling some plants to make room for a tank (with just aqua scape for the beginning cause I love plants) any suggestions for a fish I could eventually get? 👀
The name of "good vibes" piranha is Pacu, is natural from Brasil, here we have "versions" for indoors aquariums witch they reach 18 cm in adult size. I have they in my aquarium, they are lovable fishes and very pacific! Like the piranhas they live in groups, they dont like living alone, my aquarium isnt that big, because of that, i have only 3, but if you have a big aquarium like 200l or bigger, they will like live in groups of six or more.
I choose to believe that that bare tank is this keeper’s hospital tank. Phew 😮💨 now I can sleep tonight. QOTW: my favorite carb? Fettuccine with peppers, onions, fresh parm, basil, olive oil and shrimp cooked in garlic. Mmmmm. Ok now I’m hungry 😋
I’d say a tank with many species of macro is just as hard if not harder than sps tanks. Not fun trying to balance nutrients while making sure phosphates or nitrates don’t bottom line and be sure to trim them back
I'm currently breaking down because I learned today that my feeder fish that I've had for the past 4 years needs a 75 gallon tank and not the GLASS BOWL the pet store employee recommended. I have him in a 5 gallon tank at the moment and up until today thought i was giving him extra room :( Currently combing through Facebook Market place to try and find some reasonable upgrades but I feel horrible.
Happt FTR Monday everyone. Pho (have no idea how to get the accent on a the cell keyboard, not gonna try). Those arowana are crossed with spawning salmon. Have a great week.
I grow mint in my tank so basil should do great as it is part of the mint family. QOTW, My favorite food is Italian. I could eat pasta every day of the week.

Yes, here I am on vacation and still making sure I watch Fish Tank Review
10:20 that a Tambaqui aka Black Pacu. They get HUGE! It's in their genus name **Colossoma**
10:19 is it a pacu ?
sup chirs, re: basil... i had some 2-gallons jars with some java fern and java moss and i let them go wild with snails, and it qquuickly established an equilibrium with oregano and basil in rockwool cubes in net cups held up by chopsticks... it was no water changes clean in 4 weeks, i just had to trim roots and plants every week or so and the herbs were super productive. i never ever fed the setup and the snails handled all the algae -- dirted af of course, thanks for all the tips
Favorite carb is such a hard question!! Id have to say probably donuts for sweet then tortillas chips for savory with homemade salsa or pico de gallo!
i would love to see you get into saltwater and watch you go through the new learning curves! sounds like a lot of fun. i've always been so intrigued but so intimidated by saltwater
That duckweed park is what all of my tanks look like one week after 'getting rid of all the duckweed.'
Basil is super easy to grow in water. Just sip a piece off and stick it in water and it will grow
10:19 it is some sort of pacu and to me it appears to be a black pacu which needs at least a 635 gallon tank
yaaaaaay for FFT helping me get thru today. mondays are soooooo hard blegh. french fries helped too.
4:26 " Looks like this " -@MDFishTanks 😂😂😂
🎉 another fantastic FTR 🎉 I've got a few tanks I want you to review 😅 just need to get around to posting in the FTR channel in the discord.
Have a good Monday everyone! Don’t forget to change your water this week:)
happy monday!
7:24 nope, no one thought that
10:30 it's a pacu and unfortunately in my state we have them due to people dumping pets.
Your lady did a fantastic job picking out the channel name.
👍👍
okay that awful looking beginner 'fish tank' at around 6:15 could possibly be a hospital or quarantine tank in which case I'm mostly worried about it's position on the stand, the colour of the water could be from medicine in the water.
QOTW: potatoes, so versatile!
Vectorisation means turning something into maths! Instead of a 'rastor' or bitmap image that gets blurry when you scale it, a vector can be resized infinitely and stay exactly the same.
Best carb is by far white rice. You can fry it, put it in soup, wrap in nori, eat it plain, or make sushi. Best carb ever couldn’t live without it
Sadly, there is no freshwater octopus. 😔😔
10:26 It's called a Pacu! They live in South America
if your friend show you a very sad fish tank, offer them some 'upgrades' with the excess cuttings from your own tanks. do it as good as you can. They'll eventually either get into fishkeeping /aquascaping properly or ask you to help him make it as good as yours
FTR is the only good part of a Monday morning. Thanks, Chris!
@10:22 that's a Pacu!
For the "beginner friendly" tank, it looks like it might be an older tank that someone didn't quite manage to fully clean out for a quarantine tank.
Shrimp Alfredo is my favorite carb definitely recommend you try it if you haven’t already
Just created a new betta tank thanks for all your vids helping me into the world of fish I used your you suck at fish tanks vid to help me make it it has spider wood light colored sand and is planted
I never struggle G I love watchin your vids start to finish I honestly wish they were longer haha
10:30 Pacu we use to own one and they get massive
I honestly never had fish or was interested in getting them, big into houseplants tho and this channel is so informative and interesting and kinda led me to fish tube and now I’m considering selling some plants to make room for a tank (with just aqua scape for the beginning cause I love plants) any suggestions for a fish I could eventually get? 👀
Between this channel, your Steven Ho channel and your UncleRoger channel, I am really enjoying the content.
I'm getting a betta in September it will be my first fish! Watching your videos is helping me learn and prepare for my new family member😁🐟🐟
This is the thing that saved me in my time of need thank you chris you saved my life you gave me a reason to live =]
I love the name of your channel, creative and catchy!
10:22 This is a total guess based on my time playing Megaquarium..... Is it a pacu?
10:36 is a freshwater paku I think
bro looks like the figure put upside down🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
I choose to believe that that bare tank is this keeper’s hospital tank. Phew 😮💨 now I can sleep tonight.
QOTW: my favorite carb? Fettuccine with peppers, onions, fresh parm, basil, olive oil and shrimp cooked in garlic. Mmmmm. Ok now I’m hungry 😋
That empty tank is how I either imagine quarantine tank or somebody trying to breed those Cory cats
10:34 they are called Pocue.
YESSSSS GREAT VIDEO AGAIN, can't wait for the next FTR!!!!!!!!
10:10 Pacu?
yes!!!
I grow basil in 2 tanks using aerogarden sponge thingies as substrate and I have to cut them back every week. You won't have any problem growing them
That big fish is a pacu. Love 💖 your vids love 💕 from London uk 🇬🇧🐡🐠🐟❤🦐❤
7:00 Didn't notice that almost half of the tank was off the table.
10:20 thats a pacu
Happt FTR Monday everyone. Pho (have no idea how to get the accent on a the cell keyboard, not gonna try). Those arowana are crossed with spawning salmon. Have a great week.
I grow mint in my tank so basil should do great as it is part of the mint family. QOTW, My favorite food is Italian. I could eat pasta every day of the week.
Imagine falling into that lake of duck weed and coming back out covered in it
I recommend cabbage patch soup with cornbread. A superior use for a bowl.
11:45 they are probably tattooed if you don't believe me it's a popular trend in Asia. The fish you couldn't think of is a pacu.
