I really like what tamron s doing with their lenses for sony - very minimal design - lightweight & great optics with a semi macro range & easy to mix and match with their other prime and zoom lenses to get the range that one wants. This can easiy compement the 17-28 or one of their light UW primes and one can go close afar. They are also developing a very lightweight 70-300 which I als look forward to. Meanwhile a very apt review. Thanks
Ohh, I’m glad to hear your take on this. I feel like the consensus is that it’s fairly decent for social media posts and a few paid gigs, but don’t expect it to reliably focus or capture sharp photos under high movement or low light environments.
I bought this lens to use on my A7R3 a couple weeks ago. So far, I'm very impressed. For its price, you're getting extreme versatility and pretty damn good image quality. Not 'blow your socks off' quality like a GM or narrower range 2.8, but very good. It has great colors, weight/size, and can pretty much do anything from Landscapes to portraits to wildlife. It doesn't break the bank and can really do it all. I expect to keep my wide angle, mid range, and telephoto lenses for more specific and clearer shots. But if you're traveling or are simply wanting to downsize to 1 lens...this one is it. I'm not joking.
Nice review. I have this lens. Coupled with the A7iii and with the new software update, the AF issues seem to have been sorted to quite some extent. For those who are pondering between this and a pro option...just go for this. Pictures are more about the moment and being ready for it. The rest is editing. It takes sharp pictures over a large focal range. What else does one need, other than a scene, light and drama.
I recently purchased this lens. I also have the Tamron 28-75 and the 75-180. Tamron has done outstanding job of balancing cost and quality. Are there things the could be better about them such as internal stabilization. But for my needs they are fine. The 28-200 will be my travel lens. I'll also pack my 35mm prime, if I'm worried about low light.
If they added image stabilization and perhaps managed to improve the 28 mm corner sharpness, it would basically be the perfect jack of all traits. That said, my sample of this lens does seem sharper at 28 than this sample of yours.
I am very impress with Tamron. I have the 17-28..extremely recommended.. i will buy a Tamron zoom for sure. I hesitate between this one 28-200 or more telephoto range the 70-300 which is also cheaper and very good optically. And they have 6 years warranty with authorized dealer. (Be careful amazon is not). Buy at your local camera shop like Henry’s (Ottawa Canada) or BhVideo (New york)
I’ve been waiting for this review so thanks for that. Although I’m sure it is a good all rounder I feel that I need to save up a bit more for the Sony f4 70 200 G lens with image stabilisation, really enjoy and appreciate your honest reviews - thank you!
Hi Stefan, I surprised myself by just picking this lens up after not paying much attention to it when it first came out. I recently bought the a7c and this will pair fantastically with it .That combo plus the Tamron 17-28 and a fast small prime for low light, etc will be my new three lens travelling set up. I am excited to see how that works out! At least it will be an easier carry on. I just don't want the weight of the 28-75 and my 70-200 in my bag anymore!
Thanks for another informative review! I have this lens and am very happy so far. Very convenient all-around lens that gives really nice results. Is it as good as more expensive alternatives? Maybe not, but it’s really close :). And at this price it was a no brainer for me.
WHOA, GREAT APERTURE RANGE, BETTER THAN THE KIT LENS..GLAD THEY START AT F2.8...I GOT THEIR 70-180MM F2.8.. PHOT QUALITY IS GREAT AND I DIDNT MIND THE BUILD QUALITY SINCE I KNOW I DONT USUALLY SHOOT AT RUGGED TERRAIN FOR THE MOMENT SO THE EXTRA CASH GOT ME A SONY 20MM F1.8 HAD I GOT THE SOPNY 70-200MM F2.8..
Why is it not a professional lens? Because it's not priced at 5k? Or professionals have a restriction on using super zoom? U combine this with 2-3 primes and u have the killer combination one can get. It's priced at ridiculous price for what it has to offer
I have been watching your videos and was wondering if you could change that music in the background? After watching a lot of your videos the same music gets kinda stale.
Does your 28-200 copy zoom creep down easily from 200mm to 135mm ish when pointing/shooting up? I have to hold the zoom ring to prevent it from creeping. Overall my favorite travel lens tho.
Great review. Congrats Allow me two questions : 1. How far goes the F2.8 ( 32, 35 mm...) ? 2. I´m a Nikon Z owner. Does anyone tried this lens with the Techart adapter ? Does it work 100%? Thanks in advance.
i am from ethiopia...i always did what you requested to become a winner....but am not....i hope i will be a winner for this lens.i have a sony a7iii with kit lens and I need good glass.
What are your thoughts on this bad boy?

Combined with one or two fast primes, this lens is perfect for traveling.
Exactly! I plan to combine it with the 24 mm GM and 75 mm f1.8 Samyang.

What abt the 2.8? How much distance does it cover for 2.8 aperture?
I was so waiting fr this review
Great video, yet again 👍🏻. I’d love to see it compared to the Sony 24-105!

Great review. I have the 35mm tamron 2.8 emount and I love it. Looking to get something with more range. Always great review

@@calbarton Thanks but I really do not need a F2.8 for landscape work although I must admit I have considered the Tamron as per your suggestion.
Awesome review, thanks!

Looks like a good buy.
I'm currently torn between getting this and the newer Samyang 35-150mm f2-2.8
You are doing a good job
Great review! And really appreciate you converting to other units as well. I can't think in inches haha
You bet!
I love mine, is an amazing lens!!!

how it performs vs the sony 24 -105 f4.0 g ?
It'll be good for indoor studio
wow nice lens bro

Feel like 'Value' surely needs to be at the end after you've spoken about the performance
Noted thanks!
For sure 24mm would be better and VR also but ...2.8 on a all-in-one zoom is a great job from Tamron ...
I have been watching your videos and was wondering if you could change that music in the background? After watching a lot of your videos the same music gets kinda stale.
Appreciate the feedback my friend. I have switched it up in some newer videos!
Which is better lens Tamron 28 -200 or Tamron 70 - 300 .. please reply..
Also do a comparison video on these two lenses ..
Does your 28-200 copy zoom creep down easily from 200mm to 135mm ish when pointing/shooting up? I have to hold the zoom ring to prevent it from creeping.
Overall my favorite travel lens tho.

I'm torn between this one and the tamron 70 to 18 and can't decide if the wider range is worth the variable aprature and vice versa
They are different lenses really.
Hello sir.Can you tell me if the zoom ring ia a little bit stiff? Because i just bought it and it is hard to rotate the zoom ring.thank you.
Nice looking do it all lens
i am from ethiopia...i always did what you requested to become a winner....but am not....i hope i will be a winner for this lens.i have a sony a7iii with kit lens and I need good glass.
how is it compared to the 70-180?
How much distance can we shoot in 2.8 aperture ?
35 MM
i hope one day you will give me your eyes to see my comments and you will give me your ears to listen to my speech.
