- This is a documentary film on KHASI people who lives both in India and Bangladesh. It's the place called the Khasi hills. and they are thriving for thier land rights for ages and still yet not resolved. The name of the film is "BEHIND THE GREEN" . awarded by UNESCO.

To all the people who say that they are not talking in Khasi language... I think they did a great job of singing in Sohra language even when its not their tongue when theirs is War khasi language.. They did a great job of preserving their tongue while adapting to the major Bengali population.. Unlike Khasi in Shillong who prefer talking in English rather than their own mother tongue.

Don't be so emotional, language doesn't last for ever. Even so called Bangla lover in in Dhaka started talking in English and 90%+ official documents are in English now. Language evolves and dies it just like nature, try to live with it and don't be stupid.

It a painful to see our Khasi in Bangladesh. I suggest the Presbyterian church of India and Catholic Church to start initiative action to financial support them like school facilities based on mother tongue ,basic medicinal facilities for survival of Khasi community in Bangladesh
The Khasis on either side of the border totally differs from each other in their socio-economic status; definitely influenced by the legal and constitutional provisions offered by their respective nations and the marked differences between the 2 sides are clearly evident. The Khasis on the Indian sides enjoys the wealth from the many developmental programs and a full fledged state of it's own which provide them the rights to have their own laws and administration and have their own identity. This has led Khasis to achieve quite a high status of soci-economical standards, almost as par as to the rest of the nation. The educational level of Indian khasis are even higher than many regions of the mainland India. ...

Actually Bangali they are Indian not Bangladeshi. Before2 Bangladesh n Nepal they are under the country of India but when it is separated from India those khasi n Garo who stay in Bangladesh they cannot come to India because they cannot live their lands n their houses that's why they remain in Bangladesh only.

I urge all the authority or authorities concerned to ensure that their rights are not deprive under any circumstances be it social-cultural, economic, political or whatsoever by invoking all laws of the land available including Universal Declaration of Bio-Ethical and Human Rights law for protection of these indigenous tribes existed there and among other states in India🤴

A little more than a hundred years ago the Khasis used the Bengali script. The Church helped them migrate to the Roman script. Much like the Manipuris recently.
That's not true although attempt was made by the British but due to the inconveniences and inconsistencies with the phonetics they adopted the Roman script which is closer to accuracy from that point but although not 100 percent accurate.

One more thing i should add before i leave... i never knew so much about Khashi people, before watching this video..but I knew more about Gaaro people , because when I was a kid growing up in Mymensingh, I used to be looked after by a Gaaro bhai who was living with us like a family member. My point is we need to educate local Bangladeshi people more about your culture, what you like and what you don't. In fact, watching this video, now i know - why Khashia people gave me a look and reacted as i was trying to touch beetle leaves in their gardens out of curiosity... 'cuz i never knew it was so important for them to keep their gardens off of strangers.. but now i know how sacred these gardens are to them. I can bet, majority of Bangladeshi dont know this.
Exactly....!!almost 90% of Bangladeshi don't know this...infact some in different places destroy the gardens of many khasi families. It's a real pain to see this things happen..! Khasi people in Bangladesh owe to have an equal rights and laws. The government should in fact support these small group of people as they are protecting the environment. Firstly, Khasis are not Matriachal, they are Matrilineal.
There's a big difference between Matriachal and Matrilineal.
Matriachal is where the head of the family is female.
Matrilineal is where the hierachy is from the female. (Where surname is taken from the mother) but the head of the family is still the father. In fact,in every Matrilineal Clan, the "Kñi" (Matrilineal uncle) plays a large role.
