The transport you were talking about is called "CNG"
And you were right about it being caged
It is caged so that thieves can't steal anything from the passengers
Its an auto rickshaw, not a CNG. CNG is just gas name. You dont call other ones a petrol car do you?

Actually you were roaming in Gulshan area, which is one of the posh areas of Dhaka, heavily guarded because of a totally unexpected and tragic incident at Holy Artisan (though that was totally unexpected and one off incident in Bangladesh but still to ensure extra security), you already know about CNG Auto Rickshaw from comments below......So hope you will come back to see the natural beauty of Bangladesh and love n hospitality of Bangladeshis...
You know what? You guys were actually very lucky indeed. If it wasn't the weekend and if it was Thursday or any of the working days you would probably get stuck on traffic and waste your 12 hours just to reach Dhaka University from Gulshan and return back. Of course, you could have seen the real face of Dhaka traffic and get the idea of what Dhaka is actually famous for! Anyway, thank god you didn't have to face that horrible experience of the legendary Dhaka traffic which we Dhaka guys face almost every day except Friday and some other government holidays.

I assume it was before you were born , Dr , Satyen Bose a prof of D,Univ. , there worked with Scientist Einestin , on Boson theory , ...

Years ago ,there was hijackers who would loot or snach items of people,snach the whole tuk tuk (we say CNG) specially during night time when no people outside. So those cages were added for safety reasons during night time or at unsafe areas.
