So I tried to play this game a few days ago… here’s my summary: Good: -The concept of a career mode in an f1 game was still rather new at the time, so it was a novel attempt and gave the game some actual purpose to exist, even if it only really came about through circumstance -Most of the bugs seen in the earlier games had been fixed by this point, including the dreaded yellow flag speed limit that was almost impossible to adhere too. Should have been fixed long before this realise, but frankly there’s so little that’s good about this game, it’s worth mentioning. -Considering it’s still on a CD, the graphics are mostly acceptable, and a slight step up from the previous games. -Damage model. Honestly, it’s undoubtedly the best part of the game, as cars can often be sent flying across the circuit in dramatic fashion if hit hard enough. Driving on 3 wheels is also possible, which is a rarity for f1 games in general. Bad: -The handling. Oh dear god the handling. It basically destroys about 80% of the game there and then. I’ve tested the handling down the straight, and there is at least a seconds delay between the analog stick being moved, and the movement on screen actually being replicated. What this effectively means is that it’s impossible to steer the car round corners with any sort of accuracy, and three/four attempts being needed to straighten the car back up on the straights. -The AI. They are simply broken. They fly about all over the track with absolutely no awareness of your car, or anyone else’s for that matter. Cars also often slow down at random points with no prior war oning, meaning there is a high possibility of you running into them. They are the other 20% that basically makes the game unplayable. -The frame rate. Less of an issue, but usually during starts, the frames per second seem to drop down into single figures, as the entire game becomes choppy until all of the cars have pulled off the line. Interactive pitstops- Honestly, these aren’t that bad to complete, however occasionally button presses just seem to fail to register, meaning that the car often tends to either speed or stall when in the pits. Overall score: 2/10 Summary: A potentially great idea for an f1 game totally destroyed by the usual EA laziness and incompetence, allowing the game to be be realised with a clearly broken AI model, and handling which is nigh on impossible to even get used to, let alone master. A miserable and frustrating game, for a miserable and frustrating franchise
@@KimiFan2002 I thought about it and did test it but i could not get it to work what with the AI and the fact you can only do about 7 laps per race. And the career is pretty basic don't you just pick another team at the end of the season i have never got that far hehe.
Yes it was Ian the game really wasn't set up for 100% in career it's only 7 laps and it's fixed. I really thought I would not be able to do it but I found it in the "Quick Race" option 😂
i also played this game years ago and it is basically destruction derby with f1 cars and when you hit another car physiks completely left the gane ... but to be honest the idea was insane and i miss it in some parts okay just the fact that cars and tracks form more seasons were includet ... but everything else was is terrible (please don't mind my bad english)
23:51 you Lost the bageboard too. And then you Lost 2 Wheels instead of 1, If you Lost only 1 Wheel you can replace It, but If you Lost 2 Wheels you retire unless you keep moving and make it to the pits.
Its a real shame how these Visual Science/EA f1 games turned out, Their ps1 games F12000 and F1 CS2000 were brilliant games, (with a few issues) Then when they moved to PS2 everything went to shit lol, It makes me wonder if anyone actually tested the games before release, The concepts were good, but everything was just poorly executed. Handling. AI. frame rate, all a mess But loved the video Dave 👍
Haha thanks mate yeah never have i been so glad to finish a race early haha. Yeah i agree i loved F1 2000 it was near on perfect except for the difficulty but yeah on PS2 they just seemed to struggle but they weren't the only one Lotus Challenge had the same handling and so did a few others it often felt like they were trying to reinvent the wheel lol. Its simply you turn left the car turns left why is this such a problem lol. I just think they developed a game engine for PS2 that was broken and just could not be bothered to fix it a bit like The Angel Of Darkness that Tomb Raider game no one ever speaks about. And the fact that every single game was on CD speaks volumes even with compression you can only get about 750mb to 1000mb max on a CD so thats why the graphics were not up to much and most likely explains the frame rate the poor CD was spinning at 52x speed and trying to catch up haha.
Haha nice one mate yeah it's a great game as long as you are blindfolded with ear muffs on and your hands tied behind your back its the only way to play it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I actually like this game. I've been replaying it and I think it had a lot of potential. I mean heck what game has 4... yes FOUR seasons in it.... It's just my personal opinion. I love this game though ^_^
to be fair, you had a stop and go not a drive through. Looks like a mess of a game, poor handling impossible ai. Some cars look really wrong, cockpits look spacey, steering wheels small, wheels look off.
Hi mate yes all this is true its like the FIA car from 2020 its the same model they just change the front wing for the different teams. Yeah it was a nightmare it was so arcadey someone asked why i didn't include it in the All Seasons well if i had i think it would have killed the series right there haha. Yeah the handling is well bad on a controller trying to keep it in a straight line is pretty tough hehe.
Well, I ended up getting this game for free from a mate… and I still felt ripped off, the handling made it completely undrivable, far too floaty to actually turn properly
