Holy heckins. Never thought I'd see a reaction to Gnidrolog on RUclips! As much as I love their debut album, they really refined their sound with the follow up "Lady Lake". The experimental drive is still there but it's matched with a greater sense of melody and more polished arrangements. "Social Embarrassment" would be a good example of what I mean by that.
PS - Have you ever heard Cardiacs? Bet you'd have interesting things to say about them.

Also, glad you listened to that particular stretch from the drum solo to the entrance of the sax without a pause because that was a vital transition for me.

Gnidrolog were formed by the (twin) Goldring brothers. They reversed their surname and added an 'O'. Don't think I've heard them since the early 70s! They occasionally featured on late night Radio 1 live sessions.

I love Gnidrolog!!!! Incidentally, the Italian band Areknamés did a stupendous cover of Snails on their awesome 2006 album Love Hate Round Trip. To wit ~

If I could suggest 2 Gnidrolog tracks that I believe are essential (and Snails would be #3) I'd have one listen to Long Live Man Dead and also I Could Never Be a Soldier. I believe these 3 tunes best showcase the brilliance and the passion of Gnidrolog. By the way the name Gnidrolog was just a jumbling of the letters of the last name of 2 brothers who were in the band: Colin and Stewart Goldring. The bassist Mars Cowling went on to a nice career playing with Pat Travers among others and Nigel Pegrum went on to Steeleye Span.
