Key and Peele has honestly SO many great skits, but this is absolutely one of my favorites. I also loved "Office Homophobe"... honestly it's hard to pick favorites with these guys.
Just last night I was reading about how Jordan and Co. come up with these skits and how they structure them to hit it hard right at the end. Apparently they went much more racist in the final line and they worked it down from there.
This one is short but one of my favorites. My sister and I quote it every winter when the newscasters start up. Another great short one is Power Falcon by Key and Peele.
True story, once, when I was leaving my parents' house, my mom said 'Watch out for black ice,' but I thought she said 'Watch out for black guys.' I was legitimately like 'WTF did you just say?' 😆
I love the wordplay when the female anchor is talking about how the black ice almost "robbed [her] of [her] balance." The word 'balance' is doing a lot of work in that sentence. On the surface, of course, slipping on ice would _physically_ put her off balance-- but then, since she was talking about coming away from an ATM, the second meaning of the word is her actual bank account balance. That's a really clever bit of writing.
I love this skit so much, and I loved your commentaries. “A perfectly safe neighborhood”… yeah… we know what she wants to say… Have you seen “a wise bully”? Another smart skit from them. They’re also guest star on a video called “Mexican stand-off (ft. Key and Peele)”, really worth it.
THE CIVIL WAR reanactment skit is classic, give it a reaction and all the EAST V.S. WEST skits making fun of football players names, that skit what made me fan forever
Haha I love the detailed analysis, but I'm almost certain the entire premise for this skit was that "Black ice" vaguely sounds like "Black guys" if you say it quickly
I am so glad you reacted to this one. As a minnesotan, this one holds a special place in my heart! You're hinted that ending is thought, but like what you do with snitches. It just gangs up on you and kicks you in the gut!
This was a good way to enlighten people to our terminology and the way we use it. Interesting that Mr. Boyd started to talk about how that's a system that we're all in. It made me think of a scene in prison in Spike Lee's Malcolm X movie, where they discuss exactly this, considering negative terms like "black-listed and black-balled", then in the next scene of this video, they paraphrase the "land on Plymouth Rock" lines from what Malcolm said.
I don’t know a single person who says black ice and thinks of black people. You’re just trying everything in your power to be a victim or help blacks be victims. Sure, the colors black and white have had deeper meanings for centuries, but humans called each other white black or yellow or whatever long before we were civilized enough to be offended over dumb shit like this 🙄
So, I'm a 60 yo white woman and love Key & Peele. And I agree with almost everything they say, or imply. On another note, I am enjoying your reactions to Tim Minchin.
Another language joke running through the skit is the similarity between "black ice" and "black guys". The news casters run the words together until it starts sounding like "black guys".
There’s so much going on here. Not just how things that are labeled “black” or “white” but if we don’t carefully pronounce words, they sound like something else. Like, Mike Hunt.
Btw bro, if you liked this type of skit, you should start reacting to The Onion videos! I haven't seen newer ones but a lot of their older ones are absolute gold.
To the discussion... being 'In the black...' financially means being profitable and good, where as being 'In the red' denotes loss. Wonder where that comes from if black is typically used as a descriptive negative.
That's definitely an exception to the rule. It comes from old accounting practices where negative currency numbers are written in parenthesis with a red font and positive currency numbers are written in a black font. So being in the black essentially means breaking even between income and expenses. I couldn't tell you exactly when in history that practice began though.
Good commentary. I’ve never met a black person in my life, I’ve met brown skinned people of all different shades, I also have never seen a white person before- it doesn’t exist people. This is all division. We are all made in the image of God
I'm... I'm not sure if he knows that black ice is called that because it freezes clear, looks like a puddle, letting the black from the road show through. Hence BLACK ice. People drive along and think they are just driving over a wet spot in the road, for it to turn into a sheet of ice. I get in this video it is insinuated otherwise, but to state that the term black ice is in and of itself a micro aggression is kind of a stretch. You know, because it has nothing to do with race what so ever. If our roads were red, it would be called red ice, if they were blue it would be blue ice, and if the roads were white it would blend with all the other ice and we'd be fucked, as that would be known as the rapper Vanillia Ice.
I hate how you have to dance around the certain things. I'm not throwing shade. RUclips is getting ridiculous. You're simply doing what you have to do.
That's odd to me. From what I remember the song is simply about wanting to spend the holidays with family while it snows. It's not as if the singer is saying he hopes not to spend the holidays with people of color. Is there a particular lyric that people believe is codifying racism? I totally get why people would say the lyrics of "Baby It's Cold Outside" are (at best) misogyny, but I don't understand why anyone would object to "White Christmas" just because the word white is in the title. I could definitely be missing something though.
People should realise the difference between reacting and discussing... Let's say if someone pinch you.. you move away and say ouch.. that's reaction.. but when you start talking about how much the pinch hurt or etc.. that's called discussing or complaining.. Again.. if someone cracks a joke you laugh cuz it's funny... but when you start discussing about that joke like yeah you heard it before or start asking questions about the joke... Well... It's not funny anymore ... Isn't it???
Just call it ice. I actually think tying a color to an element in this case is bigoted given the propensity of many people to play into the light/positive dark/negative concepts. Ice on sideways is not red or grey/gray ice it's just ice. I've always had an issue with the term "black ice" and thought why not say ice or if you really needed to attach a term say invisible ice because that is what is happening. Clear ice coats a surface and becomes very hard to see.
It's called "black ice" because it's on roadways which are asphalt (black) and the ice itself is clear so it appears as whatever color it's around. Black is just a word. It doesn't automatically mean race is involved. There are SO MANY more things in this world that are black and have nothing to do with skin color. We (humans) aren't that special, everything isn't about us.

There are some great fantasy novels by Modesitt where the magic system is black for good/order, and white for chaos/evil. Very good books.
no white people EVER talk like that. all made up
Black Ice sneaking up on her robbing her of her balance was a great double entendre
"Practically" robbed her, so the black ice was just there, and she was uncomfortable about it.
@Matthew Harrup Have you tried changing the video quality?
I hadn’t caught that before 🤣
@Matthew Harrup You might need some glasses buddy. Maybe if you were white ice you’d be able to see the video clearer.
Thank u for saying double entendre.
Key and Peele has honestly SO many great skits, but this is absolutely one of my favorites. I also loved "Office Homophobe"... honestly it's hard to pick favorites with these guys.
"His penis was like a BABY'S arm...holding two apples!" I laughed so hard at that imagery I almost PISSED myself!
I love how that final punchline caught you off guard. 😂

Let's jump into this immediately! Love the channel sir
this is def one of their best 😂
you gotta check out their "Prepared for Terries" skit!
It is amazing how many reactions I have watched to this skit and the fact that many people miss the "black Ice" black guys" reference mystifies me
I’m so glad you saw the humor in the ending. It’s simply to slap you in the face with the undertone that’s given throughout the entire clip
The way the female reported shortens the last e making black ice sound like black guys is awesome
I'm from St.Paul, Mn and yes in the winter the news is always talking about black ice.
The blonde newscaster was great as Lorraine (one of many) in "Bubble Boy"
Haha I love the detailed analysis, but I'm almost certain the entire premise for this skit was that "Black ice" vaguely sounds like "Black guys" if you say it quickly
He specifically likes this specifically specific Key and Peele skit on this specific topic.
that's their best skit! I knew you'd enjoy the smart writing in it!
Obviously you understand that "black ice" is nothing other than patches of frozen ice on the asphalt hence why it's called black ice.
It's called black ice because it's black instead of white so you can't see it.
Their humor is top tier, the misdirects and twists hahaha
I am so glad you reacted to this one. As a minnesotan, this one holds a special place in my heart! You're hinted that ending is thought, but like what you do with snitches. It just gangs up on you and kicks you in the gut!
Key & Peele - Scat Duel
The Key & Peele skit that I keep going back to is 'Two Church Ladies vs. Satan' - oh man, I die laughing every time.
K&P are perfect at over exaggerating a point to almost an annoying level while also clarifying how prevalent the issue is.
This is a great sketch but "key and peele: white zombies" has it beat imo! It's a must watch!
the point key&peeler wanted to say "Black Ice" when say it faster it became "BlackGuys"
3:42 hold on, "robbed me of my balance" THAT'S A BAR
It's a good one, right? I looove wordplay and uncomfortable topics being made funny. Key and Peele do it the best.

If you haven't seen the Chappelle show skit law and order that is an absolute must see. One of the best skits ever
"Yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhh.....🫤" lol gets me everytime

One of the greatest sketches of all time
The road landed on black ice!
This might be my favorite Key and Peele sketch honest
Am I the only one who constantly hears "blackguys" instead of black ice 🤔😄
Who else here specifically for this specific type of content?
Nice breakdown. But its much more simple than that. Its Black Ice ( Black guys).
I'm glad somebody mentioned this soundalike
Thank you!
and here we go
This is my favorite skit from them
If I remember right, they realized how close black ice sounds to black guys and ran with the idea
Front hand, back hand is hilarious.
Also dualling hats
The brilliance is brilliant xD
Any more so called real life is far stranger than any humour u see today...Ty Mister Boyd for this
You're reaction to this was amazing. Love the content keep it up.
what a fucking ending my stomach hurts from this
There’s so much going on here. Not just how things that are labeled “black” or “white” but if we don’t carefully pronounce words, they sound like something else. Like, Mike Hunt.
I was so excited for you to hear the last part 😂
It's so ridiculous and creative. You gotta laugh!
All Ice matters 👊
This one had me crying
Easily the best written sketch on the show.
Hahaha, I've been waiting for this one!
Went all Malcolm X lol 😂 Black ice didn’t land on the road, the road landed on black ice.
Same applies for Magic. Black magic is always evil and white magic is always healing.
Top 5 skit of theirs
Black ice/black guys robbed me off my balance is quite a line.
I always thought it was hilarious how they made "black ice" sound so close to Black Guys.
Isnt that the whole basis of the skit? That if you say black ice fast it sounds like black guys?
That's the whole basis of the skit but it feels like lots of reactors miss it
Btw bro, if you liked this type of skit, you should start reacting to The Onion videos! I haven't seen newer ones but a lot of their older ones are absolute gold.
I'd pay for that. LoL:)
What in the microagression is this.... LMAO

If you have not seen the K&P Dungeons and Dragons skit yet, you will laugh your ass off! It's a nat 20!
I have a really cool black light...I feel bad now.
its also about blackice sounding like black guys
Awesome😂😂😂. Check out Trevor Noah how British took over India. You will definitely enjoy it!
Microagression ? lmao
Gotta get to terries soon!
I can attest to black ice breaking my rib this past winter... and yes, I’m white 🤔😂
I would love to see you reacting to Ylvis - Old Friends.
You mentioned holes in our language! We're you referring to "black" holes in the language?
I love this one lol
You have to watch White Zombies from them
Good commentary. I’ve never met a black person in my life, I’ve met brown skinned people of all different shades, I also have never seen a white person before- it doesn’t exist people. This is all division. We are all made in the image of God
What is the image of GOD if know one has met him/her
Please react to Key & Peele "Insult Comic."
Black ice? Oh you mean sleet?
I'm... I'm not sure if he knows that black ice is called that because it freezes clear, looks like a puddle, letting the black from the road show through. Hence BLACK ice. Black ice sounds similar to "black guys"
black ice = black guys
I always thought they were saying black ice but sounds like black guys.

there was a poll done on a campus asking students if the song white christmas was racist and the majority said it was racist

Another short but good one is racist zombies
replace ice with guys. it almost sounds that way anyways
this sadly shows today's logic towards racism lol
lots of double entendres
I watched a lot of your videos... every time I hear you say "micro-agression" I wince
Can’t just say ice?
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:3 .
Let the routine play out before commenting. It kills the flow if you keep interupting. I think we get the idea of what is happening in this skit.
"black ice" "black guys"
Black ice is a micro aggression. Ffs. Micro aggressions are not real.
Just call it ice.
I actually think tying a color to an element in this case is bigoted given the propensity of many people to play into the light/positive dark/negative concepts. Why do you come across as always so fearful about laughing at something? Then turn into preachy mode.
