Bonita I am from Newfoundland living in Alberta for the past 43 years I have tried to make bread and it does not seem to come out right maybe is the altitude I don’t know so I gave up I am now seventy years old and my kids gave me a KitchenAid mixer for Christmas. And I was talking to my daughter one day in New Brunswick and she said you making any Bread and I said no I’m scared to try my recipe because it always came out so bad up here well she said I found this site on RUclips and she said I made the bread and it is fabulous So this morning I pulled out my KitchenAid and I made a batch of bread it is the best bread I’ve ever tasted in my life light and airy I couldn’t believe it so thank you for the recipe I will continue to make it
My dear your a god sent, I'm 26 yrs old my gf is 24 entire family is from newfoundland but most have spent to much time in ontario have lost the art of making traditional newfoundland homemade bread with that said thank you for your video it's a great help. My grandmother on bell island still makes it but she doesn't measure anything cuz she's been doing it so long so it's hard to take instructions from her lol thank you !!
Hi Bonita.my mom been gone some time now but I remember her making bread.she used to rest the bread on the bed to rise.my mom from Newfoundland.Bell Island.Watching your videos brings back alot of memories.thanx
Hi Garry: Thank you so much for your lovely message and for stopping by, I could remember my mom placing the bread pan covered on the bed and couch as well. I guess it was a nice warm place there, Bell Island is a lovely place and we have a visit from one of our visits a couple of years ago to my cousins bakery ruclips.net/video/ND2PPUOfV6s/видео.html this is the link to Pineapple Squares. Enjoy and stay safe....:) Bonita
That hits close to home and got me smiling. When I asked my Mom for her recipe she said, " well take some flour, almost a half bag and some lard". How much lard Mom? " Oh a handful or so". Haha. What odds. I use your recipe but cut in half because my kids are grown and gone. It tastes lovely. I'm guessing your children were very well fed snd appreciate your talents in the kitchen and no doubt everywhere else. Thanks again for keeping the tradition alive. God bless.
Hi Rick, Thank you so much for your lovely message and for stopping by...I love reading stories about our Moms and how they Teach us to bake and cook....haha sounds like my Mom. This is the same recipe but it's only for 3 loafs, you can half it or just freeze the dough in a bag or wrapped in your bread pan for another time. This is a lovely bread and you can use lard for the oil if you like to make it like your Moms. Enjoy and please follow up letting us know how you enjoyed it.. :) Bonita ruclips.net/video/rtGXjnhfGRA/видео.htmlsi=tCnfIGTDMGb4hrN8
Hi Carolyn, Thank you for your message and for stopping by, this is a old fashion bread recipe from years ago. My mom and her mom would make it all the time and everyday, if your nan was from Newfoundland I'm sure this was the recipe she used as well. Pretty basic and so tasty. :) Enjoy Bonita
My Grandmother was from Trinity, she made bread every Sunday when we visited. It is one of my fondest memories. She lived in Brooklyn NY by then. I am going to NFLD fr the first time in August and I can't wait!
Carol Ann thank you for your beautiful message, and what a lovely story about your grandmother. Thank you for sharing that with me and visiting Bonita's kitchen. Bonita

Oh BREAD Yeah !!! I love making homemade bread. and this is the (again) easiest yet. I have the huge bowls, stainless and Tupper w/cover, I bought the big stainless bowls because they reminded me of my Aunt Vi when she would make bread for her family of 7 kids, husband and my sister and I that one summer. Thanks Bonita for that happy memory and great Bread
Made your bread yesterday. Woke up at a silly hour and thought I'd make use of my time. Kitchen smelt gorgeous. Family loved the bread and buns. Thank you Bonita. Keep up the good work.
Diana Del Giudice You are very welcome and thank you for your lovely message and for making my bread recipe. I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed your dread, I just posted a new recipe for Christmas Fruit Bread if you are interested in making that one. Have a wonderful evening and thank you. Bonita
I just learned when I was down for a visit that left over Toutons (if there's any such thing 😊) can be cut in half and toasted like an English Muffin!!! Mind Blown!!! Never too old to learn and thank you for all your videos!!!
Andie Martin Yes this is true and you can also have them as a breakfast sandwich I have a link you can watch if you like ruclips.net/video/kWryr3jVeVI/видео.html and a few more ways on there you can try. Thank you for your message and visiting my channel. 🤗 Enjoy Bonita
In Tennessee we fry bread. I make a pan full of biscuits and left-over dough I fry. They are not yeast but still the same concept. I cut them so I can make sandwiches for salmon patties, ect.
Your bread looks so amazing! Mom used to make bread twice a week for six in our family. We called the fried bread- "dough dobs" and loved them with cinnamon sugar and butter. You inspired me to make homemade bread again. Thanks for your videos- you have the best cooking channel.
Hi Liza: Thank you for your message and for visiting my channel, I'm so glad you enjoy this video of homemade bread. I make this recipe every week and my husband loves it, and i also love that you called the toutons different names. There are so many names on those lovely fried dough pieces. Please let me know how your bread goes when you make it. :) Bonita
I love your videos and since I found them I'm addicted, you do a fantastic job. I find them very helpful. I've been away from Nl for 38 years and the recipes are what I grew up on. Thanks, Dallas Sacrey
Thank you, thank you, thank you, This is absolutely amazing. I'm originally from Corner Brook but moved when I was 9. Learning how to do traditional NFLD recipes with your wonderful accent is truly amazing.
Hahaha. you are welcome, I'm so glad this was helpful to you. Please share my video recipes with your family and friends. Thank you for visiting Bonita's kitchen. Bonita

Hello from California! Bonita you are so adorable and charming! I’m a newbie to your channel and I’m new to bread making. I plan on watching every one of your videos and attempting to make them...although I’ll bet they won’t come out as amazing as yours do. I have watched a documentary about New Foundland and it looks gorgeous! I dream of visiting there one day. Thank you for making these videos Bonita...it’s so unbelievably kind of you to share your treasured recipes! Blessings🙏✝️
Hi Lola and how sweet are you, thank you so much for finding us and leaving this amazing message. I always love to hear from our viewers and to know where they are from. I'm so glad you are enjoying our videos and recipes. Newfoundland is a beautiful province and of course we are surrounded by ocean and living on a Island. The fall is my favourite season here, and of course late summer, winter can be a little much. As I look out my window overlooking the snow storm we are having again today, but thats ok me and my husband spend hours working to share our traditional recipes with the world. We love to see California some day as well. Enjoy our channel to the fullest and message anytime, if you make our recipes and like to share a picture send them to bonitakitchen@gmail.com and we would love to see them. Have a lovely day, god bless :) #SheInspiresMe Happy International Woman's Day Bonita
I've been watching your videos for a long time, but missed this one. I used to be a baker here in Ontario, and my boss was an older fella from St. John's. We did the 3 buns too, we sold it as "Mum's Bread," same way for our molasses raisin. He made me toutons once, just like yours, the dip was molasses and melted butter, sure was good. I love your videos, this one brought me some good memories.
Thank you once again, I love hearing stories from people, keeping the old Newfoundland alive makes me smile and I'm glad it is helping people young and old stay in touch with there roots. Bonita
Thank you so much for teaching me how to make bread! I always thought it was so hard. But this was easy. And all my bread turned out just like yours. ♥
Hello Bonita I have lived in Ontario for a few decades now. Your videos are amazing. I love them. I grew up in Merasheen, placentia Bay. My mother baked bread every day except Sunday and Monday. I was the youngest of 11 children, I guess we all came from large families back then. The only difference between your bread toutens and ours was we fried out salt pork rashers first and put them in there to fry.i still make home made bread and toutens occasionally because my kids are all grown up and live provinces away. But every now and then I crave moms home cooking and need the familiar smell of homemade bread. I love your sight keep doing what you do. Kind Regards Gerie
Hi Gerie: Thank you for your lovely message and for enjoying our channel, we have been posting our videos now for 6 years and trying to get as many traditional recipes as possible but we do have lots of recipes thats not traditional. I remember years ago everyone had big families and some homes, and now its small families and big homes. To funny, I have 4 sisters and no brothers, my mom is still with us but my dad passed away 10 years ago. I love your method frying with fat pork, I love that stuff. Have a wonderful day and God Bless.....Bonita
I;am 76yrs old first time make bread was afraid ,but y make it look so easy,+I followed yinstructions to a t +have not stop makeing bread for my freinds + neighbour.I have make yeast donuts so I just don;t know why.NOW i WANT TO MAKE BUNS + HOTDOG BUNS .MUST WATCH A VIDO OF YOUR ON THAT
My Mom made and baked 6 loaves of bread every day throughout my life. We had 8 in our family. She made it look so easy as does this fine Newfoundland woman. My Mom's bread was different from the other bread I tasted growi g up and by that I mean so much more moist and with a texture that wasn't over risen. Bonita make a bread that is a reasonable facsimile. God bless you my dear.
Hi Rick and thank you for stopping by. Years ago our parents would make bread everyday and yes 6 to 8 loafs each time. My mom would bake hers in the woodstove oven. It would come out a dark brown and sometimes even burnt a little. This is a recipe our parents would use but their they didn't measure anything. I hope you get to make it sometime and thank you so much for sharing your lovely story of yesteryear with us. :) Bonita
Omg this vid is so helpful, thanks Bonita, plus i love ur way of explaining it feels like your my aunt teaching me in your kitchen, love the uniqueness of Newfoundland
This is one of my best memories. My grandmother making this bread. When it came out of the oven we would have bread with jam and tea. I'm from Stephenville.
Oh my that sounds so lovely. It's so nice how food can bring back so many lovely memories of our childhood. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your story and where you are from. Welcome! :) Bonita
I have always avoided making homemade bread because of the "mess" of kneading it on a counter!! Takes forever to clean after! LOVE that you taught me how to do the whole kneading in one big bowl! You have renewed my faith in bread making! :)
Debbie Fillatre thank you so much for your lovely message and for visiting my channel, you sound like my daughter in law. She was afraid of making bread until she watched me make it and now she is a better bread making then me. I'm so glad I've convinced you to start again, enjoy. Bonita
i love to watch you , you explain things as i do when im showing someone how to do things.and you give the recipe amounts at the same time.it doesn't take anymore time to say it. and saves someone from having to look it up.by doing both is very smart.
I'm glad to help and its nice to have a recipe to go by as well, maybe even to print it off and have for your cookbook. Thank you so much Patricia :) Bonita
There is nothing more comforting than that sweet scent of bread cooking in my home. My Mom made bread all her life..and I was spoiled and loved it!! Thanks for showing me how to do it myself. I was going to call my cousin but not now 😁🍠
How sweet are you, thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your lovely message, I have many bread recipe here and on my website, www.bonitaskitchen.com if you wish to check them out. Have a lovely day. :) Bonita
All of mom's dishes were good. Her bread was a taste of Heaven. She also fried some of the bread for herself. She was the only person in Oklahoma I ever saw fry part of the yeast bread. She was always represented Newfoundland (and the Queen) with highest of standards. Love your cooking.
Oh my she sounds like she was a lovely lady and an amazing baker, fried dough is the best. Anyone that loves working with dough can tell you its amazing. Of course the finish result is proof, thank you for leaving a message and for stopping by. Have a lovely day and Merry Christmas to you and yours. :) Bonita
I'm not sure I know which I like more about this channel - the great recipes with great instructions, or RUclips's attempt to create on-the-fly closed captions that can interpret a Newfoundland accent. ("Fried Bankers")
virginia woodland You are very welcome and thank you for stopping by and leaving a lovely message, I'm glad to help. I do have a newer video posted below this one for the same bread recipe, I guess I made a couple of ingredient errors in this old video. Enjoy to the fullest and stay safe, Bonita
Good to see you’re doing well Bonita, hello from the far North. Mum was from northern part of the island and she formed them into round shape and called them grease cakes. Your bread looks delicious.
Hi June, Thank you for stopping by and sharing your Mom's story with us. I'm so glad you enjoyed our bread recipe and watched our video. I hope you get to make some of our traditional bread and enjoy to the fullest. :) Bonita
@@bonitaskitchen Bonita our kids went to school together and I’m from NL. Dad always fried his grease cakes and bannock using his black bear grease, Mum used regular lard. RUclips suggested your video. It’s been years since we’ve seen you but always think of you when we drive past your home in Northlands. Take care and say hi to Trixie if she’s around.

Hi Dee thank you for visiting Bonita's kitchen, you can top the toutons with molasses and butter, or a side dish of milk and sugar, 1/4 cup milk 1 tbsp sugar or a topping of your choice. Bonita
I have always made my own bread, but I would knead it on the counter. I never thought to knead it in the bowl. Thanks for that idea. It is a lot less messy your way.
6996katmom Thank you for your message and visiting Bonita's kitchen, I've made my bread on the counter but it takes a lot of practice to master the trade for sure, mixing and kneading it in the bowl is diffently less messy. It nice to help each other with any tips on speeding up a good meal. 😊 have a wonderful day. Bonita
I am making your bread for the first time right now :) 2-3 bun breads and 12 large rolls. Wish me luck!! :) Thank you for the awesome idea that it can ALL be made in the big bowl!!

Yes I totally agree, I love making bread and the beautiful smell of it baking. My daughter in law makes bread that way by fermenting the dough for a few days, it wasn't a east coast bread. but it was so delicious. Thank you so much for enjoying my channel. :) Bonita
OMG...my mom also does the sign of the cross on the top of her bread!!! And you're right, if you don't have cracks then the bread won't turn out good!! You made a lovely batch of bread!!!
Lori (Just A Girl From The Bay) that really is such a Down Home thing!! I've never seen anyone who wasn't Newfie crossing the bread. God it made me smile when she did it.
Ohhh myyyyy Gooooood ……..this is the best bread I’ve ever made, I thought mine was good, but yours has a second rise after the first 30 minutes, I’m sure this is making a huge difference…I can only wish I could spend one day with you in your kitchen, I feel you could show me so much ….next I want to try whole wheat, but I’ll make a 60% whole to start and see my husband’s reaction to it. Hahaha 🤣 again thank you so much for all your good recipes ….last week I made your salmon loaf again, it’s in my repertoire, we love love love it…..😋

Ok Great Bonita. Strangely enough my bread was amazing. I realized that I only rose the dough once before rising in the pans. So it should rise 3x? I just made another batch of dough. Still no cracking. Lol. Your instruction is perfect. Great job! Thanks so much!
Wow! I stopped buying bread because I make my own now. I don't make it very often, but this recipe looks so simple and made so much! I have a Pullman pan and it is hard to find a recipe to fill it. This one will do the trick, and then some!

Hi Shirley, thank you for your message and I'm so glad you enjoyed our video and recipe. I love using this bear paw for so many things. It serves as a hand when mixing because I love work the dough by hand. Enjoy and thank you for stopping by.:) Bonita
Hi. Just arriving from Newfoundland where I bought some touton’s dough in a grocery store. I us3d it for breakfast and to make pizza. I long can I keep your dough in the fridge? Goingnhiking for 3 days, I am bringing some in my backpack and will make toutons in the morning. Tks a lot and Newfoundland his very beautifull.
Hi Danielle: Thank you so much for your message, you can freeze the dough and remove it from the freezer next week and keep in your fridge to thaw and then use it after that. If you leave it in the fridge from three days it may loose its texture and be a little dry. Have a lovely long weekend, enjoy. Bonita
Bonita's Kitchen ok tks a lot. So we will have touton for brakfast and little buns for lunch. Hope it will witstand the night in the backpack up in a tree. Thanks. Everything is rising well so far.
@@danie2300 it will be ok and maybe put the one you have with you in the cooler to stay good, and to stop it from rising to much. Or with a ice pack :) enjoy Bonita

Thank you for your message and for visiting my channel, i just noticed you sent two messages and I was going to share with you the fish and brewis recipe, I have many recipes on the chancel. Enjoy Bonita
Nice one Bonita. I had to laugh because I was watching an old video of my mother making bread while my uncle filmed and you'd think you were both taught the exact same way. Only she called a touton a tiffin in her video. The rest of it was identical right down to making buns and glazing the bread at the end.
Hahaha that is so cool, is your mom from Newfoundland because most of us Newfoundlanders make our bread the same way. I'm so glad you shared your story with me. Thank you for visiting Bonita's kitchen. Bonita
Hello Bonita, I made whole wheat bread by your video, and it I’d delicious! Thank you for sharing. I will bake your white bread next. I noticed that you are doing all work of mixing and kneading in a large bowl. Could you please tell what size is this bowl and may be what material it is made of and maybe the precise label for me to find it and buy it. Thank you.
HI and thank you for your message and for making our whole wheat bread recipe. The white bread is a lovely recipe as well and one I make every week. Its a old video and one I made a few mistakes in so I will point them out to you before you start. The amount of flour is 8 1/2 cups and 3 cups of warm water, everything else is ok. The size of my bowl is 32 cups and its tuber ware I got it at IKEA years ago. Thank you one again and have a lovely day. :) Enjoy Bonita

Good Morning from Box Elder, South Dakota, Again, Miss Bonita, Your hair looks adorable today or in this video. This Bread Looks Delicious!! I am not sure if I will make it today as it is still very hot here. This is Dalaine again. I did not tell You last time but I am a Native American. We make what We call Fry Bread. I am sure that You have already heard of it. We add a little more sugar to Our Bread Dough that We Fry. Some People ask, “Why do You call it Fry Bread and not Fried Bread?” It is like Fries, You would say that You were eating 1 Fry that is how We consider Fry Bread. We serve Our Fry Bread with a Lakota Sioux Berry Pudding that is very delicious. I love all kinds but 2 of My favorites are Blueberry and The Other is Buffalo Berry. They are so good! We just add a little sugar to some cooked down berries. We only add enough to make them sweet but not overly sweet. We just make sure that any berries that may be tart or bitter are no longer bitter or tart. Then We add a thickening agent In The form of a slurry. Some like their pudding more translucent and they use a Corn Starch or a Corn Flour slurry. My Mom and Grandma’s used a water and flour slurry. That is my favorite way to make it. I just loved that You showed Your Fry bread recipe. I did not understand the names that You called Them. Maybe, if You spell it for Me then I will understand what they are called. Anyway, I am looking forward to making Your recipe for bread as it gets a little cooler around here. I could do it while it is hot with the air conditioning on but it is either too cold or more often too hot in the house. Well, again, thank You for sharing Your talents with Us again, Miss Bonita. God Bless You and All of Your Family and Loved Ones. I look forward to seeing more of Your videos. ✝️🙏🏽😊👍🏼💕👋🏼
You are very welcome and thank you for the lovely message and for sharing so many lovely recipes. The flour and water is called a roux and thats for make a sauce or thickening. The sour berry could be partrdgberries or cranberries here in NL also Bake Apples or Cloud berries are also a little sour and sweet. I'm so glad you are enjoying our recipes and videos, your fried bread could be called Bannick thats what they are called here. Stay safe and God bless you and your family. @@bonitaskitchen, WOW!!! Okay thank You. Yes, different Tribes call it it different names. We don’t call Our’s Bannick Bread but just Fry Bread. I have heard that name though. We actually have 2 different types of bread too. This first One is called Gah-Booboo bread. Although it sounds silly it tastes Wonderful. We have Buffalo Berries here and My Mom used Wild Plums too. That is My Grown Son’s favorite pudding. We actually call it Woh-Jah-Pi. It is pronounced Woe-DJA-Pee. It is DELICIOUS!!! My Mother-On-Law whom had my Pudding worked in the Dietary Department at A Local Hospital. They served what They called Wojapi and Fry Bread. When My Mother-In-Law ate it She said, “This is not wojapi; this is just a jelly or jam!” My Native Daughter-in-law made Wojapi and it is DELICIOUS BUT IT IS NOT JAM OR JELLY.” LOL!!! I like that! mary whelan thank you for your message and visiting my site. I have a recipe you can follow but I haven't done a video of that recipe yet. I hope that helps you. Thank Bonita Seal Flipper with Pastry: 1-2 Flippers 1/4 Cup Flour 1/2 Tsp sea Salt 1 Cup Chopped fat pork 1 Chopped onion Gravy: Pinch Gravy Browning or Worcestershire sauce 2 Cups water 1/4 Cup Flour 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper 1. Soak flippers in cold water and baking soda for 45 minutes, then trim all fat from flipper. 2. In a large bowl add sea salt and flour, then roll the flipper into that mixture. Then place into a large roaster with lid. 3. In a large frying pan on medium heat, add chopped fat pork and chopped onion, black pepper then fry until it starts to get a light brown. 4. Then add 1/4 cup flour mixture stir around, after a pinch of gravy browning or Worcestershire sause, then add 2 cups water keep mixing until it starts to thicken. 5. Pour all gravy over the flipper cover, place in a 350° oven for 3 1/2 hours. 6. After it have cooked for 3 hours remove from heat and put your pastry over the top, follow recipe below. 7. Place back into the oven uncovered for 30 minutes on a 400° oven until golden brown. Pastry: 2 cup white or wheat flour 1/2 cup Cold Butter 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup cold water 1 piece wax paper 1. Mix flour, butter ( chop in pieces) and salt together in bowl mix with your hand or food processor when mixed add water mix until it shapes into a ball then remove from bowl/mixer. 2. Put a piece of parchment paper on the counter and sprinkle with flour then cut the ball into two pieces then put your pastry ball on top of it then roll until all even. Double the recipe if you like to make more then one pie pastry and if you are using salted butter, don't add salt. Please note: Half way through cooking of your flipper check it to make sure there is still lots of gravy, if it's lower then what you started with add more water just to top it up. Then mix it around in the roaster to equally have liquid, then place back into the oven until the 3 hours is up. If you need more cooking time after that cover and place back for another half hour before you had the pastry. Enjoy.

Oh BREAD Yeah !!! I love making homemade bread. and this is the (again) easiest yet. Thanks Bonita for that happy memory and great Bread

Bonita
Those toutons looked delicious. I sometimes make toutons but I pour corn syrup on them
Thank you so much for teaching me how to make bread! I always thought it was so hard. But this was easy. And all my bread turned out just like yours. ♥
Thank You for sharing Your Wonderful Bread Recipe with Us. I look forward to trying this one.
YUM!!!😊❤👍🏼👋🏼
Hello Bonita
I have lived in Ontario for a few decades now.
Kind Regards
Gerie
Hi Gerie: Thank you for your lovely message and for enjoying our channel, we have been posting our videos now for 6 years and trying to get as many traditional recipes as possible but we do have lots of recipes thats not traditional. I remember years ago everyone had big families and some homes, and now its small families and big homes.
:) Bonita

I have always avoided making homemade bread because of the "mess" of kneading it on a counter!! Takes forever to clean after! LOVE that you taught me how to do the whole kneading in one big bowl! You have renewed my faith in bread making! :)

i love to watch you , you explain things as i do when im showing someone how to do things.and you give the recipe amounts at the same time.it doesn't take anymore time to say it. and saves someone from having to look it up.by doing both is very smart.

So do my mother. She always makes the sign of the cross on her dough before she leaves it to rise.
Ok Great Bonita. Strangely enough my bread was amazing. I realized that I only rose the dough once before rising in the pans. So it should rise 3x? I just made another batch of dough. Still no cracking. Lol.

Your kitchen smells some good
Or with a ice pack :) enjoy Bonita

haha that is wonderful, cracking is a good sign. :) Bonita
Bonita

So we had to get a new one with the the door that opens downward. :( I miss the old oven but the new one bakes good as well. Thank you for stopping by and stay safe. :) Bonita
Good Morning from Box Elder, South Dakota, Again, Miss Bonita,
Your hair looks adorable today or in this video.
Visit our website www.bonitaskitchen.com and type in what you are looking for if we have it that will pop up. :) Bonita
@@bonitaskitchen,
WOW!!! She is a pretty neat Old German descended Lady.
Sadly, My Mom Passed away on 2019. She did live a long life though. She was 99 years old. Okay, enough gabbing. Thank You for sharing Your recipes and comments with Me. 😊❤️👍🏼👋🏼
@@dalainebloom4505 Sorry about your mom passed, what a lovely age my mom is 81 and I bless everyday she is still hear. Thank you once again for enjoying our recipes and replying to our message. bonita, how do you do the traditional baked flippers with the pastry?
mary whelan thank you for your message and visiting my site. I have a recipe you can follow but I haven't done a video of that recipe yet. I hope that helps you. Thank Bonita
Seal Flipper with Pastry:
1-2 Flippers
1/4 Cup Flour
1/2 Tsp sea Salt
1 Cup Chopped fat pork
1 Chopped onion
Gravy:
Pinch Gravy Browning or Worcestershire sauce
2 Cups water
1/4 Cup Flour
1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
Pastry:
2 cup white or wheat flour
1/2 cup Cold Butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup cold water
1 piece wax paper
Please note:
Half way through cooking of your flipper check it to make sure there is still lots of gravy, if it's lower then what you started with add more water just to top it up. Then mix it around in the roaster to equally have liquid, then place back into the oven until the 3 hours is up. If you need more cooking time after that cover and place back for another half hour before you had the pastry. Enjoy.
Thank you from Edmonton
