I’m getting a horse as soon as lockdowns over and I’m kind of stressed that I will forget everything. I swear I’ve watched your last ‘what you need for your first horse’ video like 20 times already 🤣. Anyway this updated video was really helpful. Love your vids btw 💕 xx
I am so happy you are doing this series!! Thank you so much Georgia for letting us all into your life. I hope you, your loved ones and all the animals are doing okay during this strange time. ❤️ and please don’t let anyone or anything stress you out or pressure you over uploading especially right now, you upload whatever and whenever it feels good to you to ❤️ I hope going back to work etc and the easing of restrictions goes well for you and your fam and the farm! Loving this beginner series as I am a visually impaired rider and have only ever been able to have supervised lessons (for insurance reasons for riding schools as I’m legally blind) so I’ve never really had the opportunity to learn all of the basics for myself as I wouldn’t have the freedom others would to just hang around the stables and help out etc and I desperately want to learn as someday when I have the money and time I would love nothing more than to have the opportunity to own / loan my own horse without restrictions. ❤️ anyways sorry for the rant I’m not usually one for commenting but your videos have helped me so much through difficult times and I appreciate it so much! X
Lol I find this so funny. I watched these types of videos for years before I got my first horse. But I didnt need anything as the first horse I got was an un-handled rescue. We had a halter, lead, bucket, feed and a trip to the ER for me🥴. He is fine now. I got him a year ago and we can actually ride him now!
With the where to keep your horse thing, All three of our horses live in a large/small paddock with either a tree and a single stable in their paddock for shelter if they want to and a cover when it is either cold or rainy. One of our horse lives right by our house and then two across the road with an arena in between them, that always one of the horses is let into. Just wanted to say that so people had that other option and the horses are always happy and looked after. BTW this video was great because I was helping a close friend find this type of video. Xx
Excellent video Georgia . I’m 33 and have waited 33 years to get my first horse and will hopefully have him in a couple of weeks . This video is so helpful ! Thanks hun x
ok "old fart" here joining the comments lol! I am getting stressed out on if I can remember anything I had learned years ago lol!! I have ridden quite often through the adult years, but I went to ranches and left. Your videos are so helpful and I really enjoy watching you with your animals and your day life with them. thanks for sharing your life with us!! :) I grew up with horses, being around them, riding them (not professionally though). In the old days it was "do I feel like throwing on a saddle or not" type of thing. if not just grab some mane jump on from a post kick the sides gently and off you go for HOURS lol, ride bareback, go to the creek, the dump areas, wherever you really wanted. Also back then you could just ride on all your neighbors land and be gone all day while mom cooked, cleaned, baked and didn't think about you being gone so long lol. Then I moved to the city. Life with college, work, marriage, kids and now grandkids. Now we are planning to go back to the country life and horses, cattle, pigs, etc farm!
Thanks for the inspiration once again I absolutely love this channel during lockdown. Also thanks for the updated version as it revived my interests in aninals and it's why I am pursuing it as a future career.
Hi lil I'm one of ur number one fan's and I don't have a horse but I'm really interested in horses and u and if horses just puts a smile on my face and I hope ur staying safe xx
I’m going to be loaning a Cob soon, I’m so excited but I need to be fully prepared, I cant get him yet because of lockdown but we’re going to see him after lockdown, I have most of the things already just need rugs and first aid things and I need to get a saddle fitted x
tips for cob mine is a HUGE softie and while they can be intimidating (depending on size) they are great in terms of temperament. if your cob gets mites which is pretty likely I recommend things like pig oil but an easier solution is just shaving off their feathers or moving them onto shavings. my cob got them and I used a medical shampoo and that helped a lot. also, you might hear a lot of cobs cant jump but that's really not true, my cob jumps over a meter and he's 14hh if you want any questions my insta is @graceroylex
OMGGG I loan a cob named Betty, she may seem cute but she bucks and nibbles you and tries to run out her stable 🤣 good luck! 🥰Lemme know if you have him now!
I just want to thank you for doing all these videos I love every one they are so helpful and entertaining and you take my mind off everything I am going through ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😁😁😁😁
I’m wanting a horse and Trying to persuade my parents to buy one this is really helpful as I can see what I need and like worn them if I if I need anything thank you
I think you should persuade them to let you by buying with your own money and also having a lot of your own money saved up for tack, insurance, emergencies etc.
I am saving up for tack. I have been saving for a while. I want to get a rescue because it saves so many lives. I think it’s the right thing to do. My mum loves horses and rode when she was younger. She said I would love to get you a horse. So fingers crossed 🤞 I can get enough money.
And after 13 years if bugging my mum for a horse she has finally given in and said if I can save for everything for horse I may get one!!! 😍😊😂 Btw thank your for the video it most definitely help
Sorry to be negative but your not going to save unless your over 16 and have a job horses usually cost £500-£8000 and to look after them it’s about £250 a month not including farrier and vet
Thanks so much for making this video! I’m planning on getting them a horse and splitting the price with a friend. I think this will be very helpful for me to remember all the things I should need.
6:32 you Don't always need hay nets as you can have hay racks right? One of my old horses was told by the vet to have it on the floor as it helped her bad back
Yes it’s better to feed horses on the ground as that is the way they eat in the wild and what they are built for. Hay nets can be helpful and needed but it’s better to just feed on the ground
Very nice and informative video! 👌🏻 Watched the whole thing even though I know all this 😊😅. Really shows that you put a lot of effort into your videos! 💜
I'm glad her old vidio was out cause if not I wouldn't have known what to have gotten for when I got my horses but I'm looking at buying another so I will make sure i have all of this. Pretty sure I do. Idk how I would manage 4 horses without it. Also my friend is looking at buying 1 so will send this to her
Interesting to see the difference in how people keep horses in different countries. Here in the US DIY board is rare and boarding your horse means hay and bedding are included. Also lunging is generally just done in a halter, and most people consider leather halters fancy but less practical/durable than nylon or rope. NEED 3 or 4 blankets? I've always thought of that as pretty much the maximum one horse can use (cooler, turnout sheet, something with fill... something with more fill I guess?) Really cool to see there are still regional differences.
I might get a horse! I’m not quit sure if I’m going to get but I just wanna know this just in case! This will be my first horse! The breed we’re going for is the caspian horse, I’m super excited if o get it o don’t want to get my hopes up though but I’ll update if I’ll get it!
My pony is amazing don’t get me wrong but there are a few things that he could improve on such as pawing, biting the wood, turning his bum, and putting his head up- do you have any tips? 💖

This is so helpful as my family and I are moving to a house with a stable. And I would get my first horse! My mum and my brother know nothing about horses but my dad and me are pretty educated but this is just help loads more. Thank you so much!
I’ve been asking for a horse for a long time and im finally buying a horse with my own money and I’m going to be boarding at a farm a volunteer at. My dad used to be terrified of horses and now we go riding every Sunday! And for Christmas I asked for a grooming kit and lead rope and halter!
17:24 I heard some people use ketchup. Apparently it removes all the yellow stains and helps making the coat look very clean. (I also saw a video of it and it did quite the good job, impressed me.)
i m i g h t be getting my first horse in a few months and i’m so unbelievably excited but i am very very nervous because i know it’s a lot of work, but i just want to know important things to look for and have :)) so this is very helpful thank you!!
My mom bought me a young horse, not too young as in baby young but I would say a teenager if he was a human. I’m pretty tall as well and she bought a horse that was pretty tall at a young age because she didn’t wanna hurt any horses because of my height and weight. It isn’t in the USA, it’s in the Dominican Republic. I have never learned how to ride a horse but I would really like to create a special bond with my new horse when I do go see it. I am getting my second horse soon I have started looking and I made the stupid mistake of when I bought kaizen of only buying one massive haylage net with tiny holes and he wouldn’t eat it 🤪😂
This helped so much as I’m getting a horse in a month! I’ve already tried him out and bought him, I just need to wait a bit so my stables get his stable and everything ready as I ride at a public stable

6:32 you Don't always need hay nets as you can have hay racks right? One of my old horses was told by the vet to have it on the floor as it helped her bad back
I thought hay racks were for rabbits ect? I've never seen a hay rack for a horse-probably because nets are easier to use.
At my stable I just put my ponies hay on the floor
Yes it’s better to feed horses on the ground as that is the way they eat in the wild and what they are built for. Hay nets can be helpful and needed but it’s better to just feed on the ground
