Had a job and was 19 years old before I was able to own my horse, met him at 18. He was with me for 14 years before he passed away, still miss him so much and wish he was still here. Thankfully helped me produce my now 6 year old mare and have a rescue 20 year old ex race horse who is a companion for my 6 year old.
ESME THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I am buying my first horse very soon, I really needed this…also I have been watching you since the beginning, you really deserve to hit a million!!!! Lots of love ❤️ xx
you deserve 10 million subs you are so inspirational my pony Jillybean is a grey too she gets so dirty it’s hard enough with one and when I loaned a picture y for the summer called molly it was even harder it must take ages getting g them clean Jilly is always dirty
This is gonna be great! Maybe do a video with like 15 ways you can make money to buy your first horse or pay for more lessons, or maybe a riding tips and tricks or another video of stretches and workouts you can do to get better without a horse for those riders who can’t get much barn time. I’ve been a long time watcher and enjoy your vids!
Esme!!!!!!!! I love so much! Ive started my young equestrian journey recently! Its small but im now volunteering at a local barn prepping horses for lessons and helping in lessons! I told them how i watched your beginner serious and they were impressed! They atchually show new volunteers your series as the certification test! I love you so much! Also, tell casper if ever saw him, i would give him the biggest hug! I have been watching for about 4 years and you always still seem to amaze me SO much! My mom also bought your saddle pad from lemiux and donated to the barn im volunteering at! :D
The a lot of money is real hahah! Thank you for everything you’ve done esme! Everyone let’s get this amazing girl to 1 million subs! 💗🐴 (Also firstttt!)
Another excellent video, Esme :) So to recap: MONEY, time MONEY, knowledge MONEY , experience MONEY. Indeed, as far as "pet" animals go, horses are the most expensive. Love the work you do, especially in support of Horse Welfare :)
I'v been riding sice the age of 7, but didn't buy my first own horse untill 36...... 😅😅 Had loan horses, worked at several stables, even ran my own stable before buying my own! 😅😅 Actually loved all faces!
Thanks for this!! Sadly we were taken advantage when buying 2 of our three horses. Three years later and were still not riding them consistently because of their emotional baggage and one of them because of physical issues as well that weren’t pointed out to us during the PPE. I love our horses dearly and they will never leave us but it has been a lot more work than we bargained for. We were taken advantage of by someone who we thought was trustworthy and they thought they could lie about obvious issues and they knew they could take advantage of us for money. 😢Always vet check your horses before purchase and buy from someone trusted. Thanks for the awesome video Esme!!
Thank you Esme for this great introduction. And, Hello to Kent, the land of my Ancestors. Now, that I am retired, my plan has many aspects, but breeding the Most Critically Endangered Livestock Breeds is at the top of the list. So, I will start to look at where I can volunteer to learn the hands on care of Horses. I am a retired vet tech with large and small Animal Experience. I fell in love with a Morgan that I met at the Devon Horse Show when I was in 4th/5th grade. He was for sale and it broke my heart learning that he was being sold because he was getting older. So Morgans will be my 1st Breeding project to help this breed from facing extinction. I created my learning steps from you. Great job.
Great video and advice Esme all your equines are doing great and look well and happy so there is some truth in the advice that so so helpfully gives love you xx
Thank you for the tips ❤- I have loaned for 4 years and I finally got my first pony a 14.2 Connemara and I still loan a rescue gypsy cob that’s my moms thank you I love you
First!! Hi Esme! I have been your fan since the beginning! It’s amazing how much you’ve grown! Thank you for making this! I wanted a horse ever since I started watching you!
Esme, tysm! I’ve been going to this yard for around 3 years now, and I’ve really grown a connection to the ponies there. this yard is also a livery yard, so me and my mum were talking about it. she said that maybe in a year she could save up enough money and take a little from my university savings. tysm for posting this video, I don’t know what I could do without it! I’ve only recently learned to canter and I’m really enjoying my learning. again, thanks so much!! big hugs from england, too ❤🐴
I'm currently looking for my first horse, so I'm so excited to watch this video! I remember watching your "everything you need for your first horse" video when I got my first lease horse 4 years ago 🤗❤
Esme, your parents raised you right! Thank you for another wonderful, educational, and well edited video. I learned a great deal. Question from a non-horsey person: why are 'papers' necessary for horses? I never knew this was even a thing.
My first barn was a DIY, and I was very new to horse owning but I had someone to guide me. I went up everyday to muck the stall and brush my horse, fed him and everything in the evening. On the days I couldn’t go up, they’d charge extra if we didn’t muck and take care of our horses. The barn I’m currently at is full livery, however I did volunteer last summer to muck out the stables and stuff, feed etc. the mucking out for 18 stalls was too much for me, so now I go up to ride my horse, clean his stall if it isn’t clean, and feed at nights which isn’t too bad at all. I literally still go up atleast five days a week to my barn as it’s only 15 mins away from me haha
Thank you so much ESME I am leasing a horse right now and I am starting to look for a horse for me and this has helped me so much THANK YOU!!!!🐴

Esme is amazing she’s so inspiring and has defiantly helped my riding she was so kind when I met her at Holmes stead sadderly . I have my own pony Jillybean a 12.2 grey and is so cute but I’m a bit to big for her so I loaned a pony for the summer called molly a 14.3 grey (a lot of cleaning I must say ) and she had to go home last week which was really sad . And we are still on the search for a loan pony under 14.3
I don’t know why you’re having so much trouble to get to 1 million subscribers like I love your channel and I don’t get why other people don’t. I’ve been telling my whole family to subscribe to you because you were just really amazing and I’ve been looking to buy my first horse, me and my mom, we’re trying to board it because we don’t have the room and we want the room for a horse but we don’t have it yet so we’re gonna try and board a horse but we need to wait for the horse❤
@@ThisEsMe I have a question for you. Can you do a video of how to do canter poles and jumping because I have a really big fear of them with my horse that over jumps them. By the way, I’m showing my mom this video tonight. Lol

I got a puppy a few weeks ago and it's definitely a lot of time, work, money and patience. If you don't have that you'll run into a problem. Luckily, for me I have my parents that help me a lot and I am not starting school until the mid of September. For this upcoming school year, I only have lessons for three hours a day, five times a week. So, it should be okay. I letting you know this Esme, because I know you mentioned about getting a puppy but waiting for a better moment. I believe if your family is ready to help you out. You should be fine. Also one last thing, all depending of the age of the puppy you might need to get up in the middle of the night for him to go to the bathroom.
tysm for the info es! my parents are talking abt getting me a horse, and idk if we’re ready to OWN one. i will definitely talk to them abt leasing! ty again!
Hi ,I started horse riding when I was 6yrs old, we had lessons in the fields. And worked on your parsishon, AND exercises on horse back .we cood help out in the holidays ,for rides and experience to do exames. We used to go on a picnic ride . I have to work to get lessons, because my mom would never spend her money for horseriding.😢 Everyone are so lucky who even have parents who pays lessons.
Hello Esme! I love your videos and i’m interested in owning a horse on my property. I was wondering if you could make a quiz or printable sheet with scenarios you have to answer to see how ready you are for owning a horse. The scenarios could be highly unlikely ones to everyday things. It could also have a sheet or page with the correct answers written for the scenarios. My grandparents are kind enough to take me to riding lessons in the spring and fall, but I am hoping someday when the lessons are on my dime I can ride more often. Eventually when I become an adult and more experienced, it would be nice to lease. Only time and money will tell, I guess. Loved the video and found it very informative! 😀🐎
Is there a breed you would recommend for first time horse owners at my riding school I have been riding a 16h shire x cob and I have riding a Irish cob would they be a good first horse or would a cob be better love you xx❤❤
Hi Esme I really hope you see this I rid eat Apple tree stables Sissinghurst we are not the richest but we are a lovely family I first saw your videos when I was 6 I went to team tursham for the pony experience and then I found ats. I’m not asking for you to damage money I just wish you would come here to meet us and our lovely ponies. ❤️
My little sister is thinking about loaning her first pony soon she’s been riding at the local stables and getting extra lessons from me on my horse for quite some time now. I never loaned a pony as my cousins were kind enough to give me one of their smaller ponies for a couple of months when I thought about getting a pony sadly my cousins out grew the pony and they asked me to keep him unfortunately I had just got my first pony and at the time Me and my family didn’t have the time or money to care for it he was an active pony and needed a lot of exercise and to be riden they knew they couldn’t give him the life and activity he needed so they sold him they no longer have any horses to spare as they are all riding and training full time now that they are finished college I’m not sure how to find the perfect loan pony especially when the local riding stable said that they couldn’t loan out any pony as they were very busy. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to find a good loan pony?
Esme where did you find all your ponies? I know Duke is from World Horse Welfare but I'm currently looking for my first loan and I don't know where to look because I found a few near me but none that suit me (mainly 17-18hh). I would appreciate it if you would answer but I know you are a very busy person so I don't expect a reply. Thanks!! ❤❤
I’m looking for my first horse right now I’ve had ponies but it’s a horrid process😢 I’ve tried 7 the two I’ve had vetted have failed because they were double dowsed on Bute to hide problems 😭😭
U have another question for loaning a pony if you ride a horse multiple time like you get assigned it most of the time is it really necessary to loan it?
if you want! if by loaning you can do more than just what you do when riding it, like feeding, grooming tacking up and things like that then i think it’s a good idea. ❤
hiiiiiii I've been trying to convince my parents to let me buy a horse for years and I've saved up almost enough ive wanted a horse since i was like 3 but they said i cant get a horse for another 2 years and I've been riding since forever and like properly started riding during covid its really sad cause my whole family is horey exept for my parents also i defffo dont have enough money to keep a horse 😭
I rode first time at 10 years old, still 8 years later i can only walk and trot, because my mom couldnt ever pay my lessons. I have also identical twin who loves horses as much as me, so we cant afford lessons until we have a job. Sadly i never had a choice to start horse riding. Ur lucky that you have rode many years.
Had a job and was 19 years old before I was able to own my horse, met him at 18. He was with me for 14 years before he passed away, still miss him so much and wish he was still here.

Thanks!! ❤❤
When i get to the next level i NEED a horse
I’m looking for my first horse right now I’ve had ponies but it’s a horrid process😢 I’ve tried 7 the two I’ve had vetted have failed because they were double dowsed on Bute to hide problems 😭😭
Whare did you go for ridding school
U have another question for loaning a pony if you ride a horse multiple time like you get assigned it most of the time is it really necessary to loan it?
if you want! if by loaning you can do more than just what you do when riding it, like feeding, grooming tacking up and things like that then i think it’s a good idea. ❤
Hey esme I’m your own opinion do u think it’s ok to ride my groundwork thoroughbred horse in a dressage saddle
hiiiiiii I've been trying to convince my parents to let me buy a horse for years and I've saved up almost enough ive wanted a horse since i was like 3 but they said i cant get a horse for another 2 years and I've been riding since forever and like properly started riding during covid
its really sad cause my whole family is horey exept for my parents
also i defffo dont have enough money to keep a horse
😭
I rode first time at 10 years old, still 8 years later i can only walk and trot, because my mom couldnt ever pay my lessons. I have also identical twin who loves horses as much as me, so we cant afford lessons until we have a job. Sadly i never had a choice to start horse riding. Ur lucky that you have rode many years.
i mean i understand but im desparate for a horse lol
@@poppy.liv-equine Same as you but im desparate for riding lessons
Yea Um would it be better to live in the country side, we’re you have your own land and build your own stables/yard?
