    In principle, I agree, people should judge Tesla by the cars they make - and they do make great cars (I’ve owned 2 of them). However, I can’t ignore the fact that Musk is deeply involved in the company, just as I wouldn’t ignore a company that causes extreme pollution despite making a good product. Musk has been telling me every few months since 2017 that my car would be fully self-driving in 6 months. It still doesn’t. I can forgive that, because the car is still excellent in what it does (and SpaceX is a marvel too). However his political views have become ever more extreme and vocal and now he’s tied in with the orange idiot who threatens not only US safety, but World stability. I can’t ignore that and won’t ignore it when I look for my next car.

    Many years ago a Bae employee from Warton went to work for Tesla before Elon Musk arrived. He advised me to buy shares as Musk was going to financially fix the company. I did it as an act of charity as an eco warrior having worked on milk floats. I bought 6,600 shares over 3 years. I never look at the value but I'm informed they're worth over $1 million dollars. It is my intention to sell the shares and give the money to a UK charity if Trump is elected.

    Full selfdrive will usher in the future of subscription over ownership.
    Imy kid have grown now. But when my girls was teens i was basically a taxi to concerts, pick them up at nightd etc...if i had acess to a family subscription to a robo taxi, for the average orice of a car, say £400pm, that would allow 5 of us to scedual summon a car when needed, i think the majority would take it up.
    Inaging. Single subscription for £200, that's cheaper thsn runnign any car. And what about a car share plan for sat £100pm, it just means you may have to share sometimes on route.
    Also to keep the cars earning i csn see them having digital lock boxes in thr boots and doing fast food and uber style food/shop deliverise.
    I think if a tier system like that came in, it would be a winner. I always thought that ubers mental market price was all down to its potential of a driverless business. And i think we are on the verge of it. Either Tesla or google will buy it out eventually. Ive rhought this for years.
    And it pains me to say ad i love driving, but id also would love my own car to drive me home form the pub.

    • @davetakesiton
      @davetakesiton  23 дня назад

      You're getting the picture. But you're wrong, subscription cars are already here, ones you still need to drive yourself, I'm making a video about them soon

    • @StephenButlerOne
      @StephenButlerOne 23 дня назад

      @davetakesiton there is a couple of subscribers cars, my some almost took one out last week with Gigi(iirc) as he is immigrating to aus late next year. There was another good subscription service (I can't recall that name ATM it's gone midnight) but it's just gone into liquidation. So I'm not sure we are quite there yet.
      My take on the auto drive sub is a little different. It's basically a 24/7 taxi service subscription, where the cars can go to work 24/7 servicing many people and tasks. Cars moving round cities and areas, cL ulated via algorithms, knowing where demand is going to be. A bit like the way Sainsbury's ordering system works (that is an interesting thing).
      My take is the subscription if priced the same a family car, and does the work as one, but I don't have to drive the thing, ie take kids to mates, take wife shopping, pick kids teens up at night, pick me up from pub, and sill be there at 7sm to take me work, and 6pm to drive me home, all while being on call like a taxi, I'd pay that 4 or 500 a month.
      Now if your a single person sub, It would need to be priced a bit more keenly, but the car would be doing a forth (or fifth) of the work, so 200-250, to have a scheduled car and a car in 20min call 24/7 is too interesting.
      And I think the ride share oton for 100-150, would be interesting too, all the benefits of having the freedom of a car, and non of the financial headaches.
      I've been thinking of this ever since Google showed off there pod car thing about 10 years ago. All Uber drivers and divert drivers will be gone overnight. Non of them are employees, and I bet Uber is collecting every bit of data on the routes and demands for the last decade. The human employees (self-employed) is sacrificial and being used ATM as a data gathering tool. They are mapping out their own demise, for free.
      Onto was a good subscription service, too goood that's tough it's busymt and not taking on new customers. BiPi is a little more expensive, most of their cars it's up to you to insure ontop, except their Suzuki cars. My son tried to jump on the swift, as it was £380per month (or close to) for a 12 month sub. However the swift was the only Suzuki car that didn't come with insurance. So the cheapest offering is about 600 Inc insurance or 450 with out. Then it's not really that good of a deal.
      He is getting a Kia i10 this looks brand new, 2017 plate for 2k I suppose it will be up to dad to sell it when he goes away next year. I can see my daughter stealing it already, as it's a really tidy motor. Not electric, but he didn't want to spend much, and this fit the bill.
      Onto was really interesting, if you wanted to long term test test cars 3 months at a time, a car RUclipsrs, dream, I know one that done this exact things, sadly if it seems to good to be true, it will be to good to be true.
      I do believe in the model though, just a driverless, taxi service subscription model.
      Oh I wish Tesla was making that robo taxi into say a model 2. That is the nicest exterior desine they have done. I love a little coupe car, and there isn't one in the EV market yet.
      Would you mind if I emailed you next week, I have something in the works that may interest regarding EVs and media?
      *The company he was going to use was called BiPi and the one that is in trouble is called Onto.

      That is your right, Dan, but I would be really keen to know, being entirely honest, is there any other product in this entire world that you refuse to buy exclusively because of the actions, attitude or beliefs of the CEO? I believe I am pretty safe in saying no.
      So that begs the question are you happy and content buying an iPhone when the CEO employs slave labour in China at appallingly low wages and conditions are so incredibly dire that the employees regularly throw themselves off the roof of the factory? Or any other Smartphone CEO that encourages or allows the use of child slaves in DRC to dig out by hand the cobalt they need for their batteries?

      @You’re right that there are very few companies that are golden examples and without any flaws, so I just do my best to avoid the ones that most annoy me. Or I can easily avoid as there are good alternatives. I just can’t see and hear what Musk’s politics are all about and buy expensive cars from him now.

    To me it seems obvious that you are an electric car fanboy Dave. Elon Musk, through Tesla, pioneered the modern electric car and the modern electric car environment. It is hard to be excited about electric cars without talking about Tesla and Elon Musk.
    That does not mean that you have to fanboy for Elon or Tesla.
    You're doing fine Dave, don't allow other people to talk you into doubting yourself.

    People not buying a Tesla because of Elon. Gawd, folks, they are the best EV package right now and the future but you are butthurt about his political stance, which is mainly common sense anyway When I'm driving my M3 Highland, the last thing I'm thinking about is Elon's X posts and what people think of me - who cares what they think. They probably want one, but decided to cut their nose to spite their face.

    Aside from the fact that I find it deeply weird to be a fan-boy of a company, if you allow sales alone to determine something's value then you have to also conclude that Taylor Swift is the pinnacle of music making possibilities (spoiler: there's better stuff out there).
    Tesla are raking in cash from selling expensive EVs to fans and people with lots of money. It sounds from your analysis like they could help to fill the void in the market for more affordable EVs, but they choose not to do this. Why is that?

    • @davetakesiton
      @davetakesiton  24 дня назад

      The video was not only about sales but production efficiency profit technology and a myriad of other things.
      AS for why no cheaper version stop thinking like a customer and start thinking like a business, which as an investor I do. I want Tesla to sell loads of really expensive EVs at really high profit margins so they have the cash in the bank to build more factories selling loads of really expensive EVs making even more profit. As a business they should only stop making those when they run out of customers. They are now near to that time so we might see the model 2 and other budget models sometime next year. If customer demand set the business model Tesla would already be bankrupt out of business. Have patience they are driving prices down and will get there but when they do it will be in mass production on an unprecedented scale and highly profitable

    • @stephenballantyne
      @stephenballantyne 24 дня назад

      @davetakesiton but you regularly complain about legacy car manufacturers charging too much for their EVs and not offering budget models that people want to buy. Tesla are much worse in this sense in that they probably could fill this need and at least break even on those models but don't want to. At least the other manufacturers try. I don't care how much profit Tesla makes, so if it's leading the way in production efficiencies and from reducing costs by removing bits of cars and telling people to get used to it, then I want that to result in lower prices not higher profits.

    Let's not forget that when they calculated that Tesla makes cars 3x faster than VW..... That was years ago. Tesla no longer takes 10hrs to make their cars. They are now far faster. So Tesla's efficiency is far far better than 3x VAG

      That’s not the measurement of efficiency, I don’t even understand why this channel would have brought it up earlier this week. VW and Tesla use different strategies in relation to their suppliers, common/shared parts, where the battery/engine is made and assembled and where the vehicles are sold. Car manufacturing is largely a bookkeeping, management and strategic activity. Whatever figures are used in relation to a vehicle being produced, they are meaningless as larger factories have different overheads, slowing markets benefit slower production and the wages are different.

NONE !! and I'm not an Elon fanboy either, and certainly don't agree with a lot of things he says or does.. has anyone considered the loads of promises from the Japanese car market .??? why isn't anyone screaming and calling them liars ?? .. so .. Exactly like you say, Tesla employs many people and produces fantastic products.. that will help the world.. not destroy it .. :)
