I used to be a high school teacher. Got my CDL and work 4 days a week and make the same money. Much happier and moved up as a lead driver for my team. Keep on trucking.
I have thought about it but I am young and CDL doesnt seem too safe of a pivot for someone under 50 unless I am missing something. Musk and others are investing billions and billions in autonomous trucks and some are already on the road. These multi-billionares arent just throwing away money for no reason they want to eliminate this labor cost of course. And before anyone responds with "no guarantees im life" yeah I know that but obviously some jobs are more recession-proof than other jobs.
@ I understand your concern. However, an automated truck is a far cry from an automated car. The best we have have seen so far is a truck driving a couple of hours on a very straight highway in the dry desert at 2 am with nearly no traffic. We are decades from a truck driving in the mountains, populated area, bad weather, etc. I have several safety detectors that get it wrong frequently. My brake assist came on suddenly due to a plastic bag flying across the road. Sorry for the long post, but I want to be clear. We may see some automation on small stretches of highway in certain states in the next 20 years, but a truly driverless semi is pretty far out of reach at this point. It’s not something a trucking company or insurer will invest in until it is near perfect. Truck driving is the eighth most deadly job in America.

Hey brother can you tell me a bit more? I'm real torn on getting into this career. I'm fine having to sacrifice a year or two working grueling hours away from home but long term I can't sacrifice all my time for a paycheck... How have you managed to work only 4 days a week? I want to have a clearly defined goal and path to that goal before making the leap.
I had my CDL and drove for about 5 months 9 years ago. I went back to school and now I’m going on 5 years at a good work from home job with great benefits. I still think about my time driving OTR, it’s great to experience the country but also pretty lonely at times.
My story is similar as well. I quit my office job on my 40th birthday, and now I am a regional fuel hauler. Pay is better and much lower stress. Winning!
Bro, thanks for sharing your story! I’ve been in sales/retail for 20 years, it sucks the life out of me. I am a few weeks from getting my CDL, and have a company I’m going to drive OTR for. No wife, no kids, just me and my dog on the open road🙏🏼 May Jesus Christ bless you❤️
I worked 15 years in the corporate world and saved the entire way. Once i hit 250k in the bank, i went and got a union job at a grocery store, working as a butcher. I put 225k in a roth ira and hope to hit 20 years at this new job where ill be entitled to a pension. The ira will hit 1.9m when im 60, ill be entitled to my pension and social security around the same time. I couldve continued my previous job but it was meaningless to me. As someone who loves to BBQ, i genuinely love the work i do and its 10x less stressful. Best move ive made.
Same here brother. I've been in the corporate world as Senior developer now the happiest truck driver. From two screens in a dark room to two large screens on open field view. Listening to podcasts and talking to my family all day. No more corporate bs.
Awesome video. I am a 55 year old mechanical engineer about to go through my first layoff. This sounds so intriguing. No meetings, no office politics. Keep us updated on your adventures!
I worked at a Fortune 100 company and I can relate. Not only were people miserable but they had to PRETEND to be super excited about everything. The fakeness was neauseating.
I got my Cdl 6 years ago and never once went over the road. Been local with all my companies. I went from making $12/hr retail job to making 105k my first year at Sysco
I'm 30 years old. Got my CDL at 23 after job hopping since I was a teenager, wondering why I barely graduated high school & dropped out of community college after 1 semester. Had friends for years who had a CDL encourage me to get one as "you will always have a job". I can honestly say I have no regrets. My quality of life drastically improved very quickly, not only financially but mental health wise - not waking up with dread everyday just barely getting by, working a menial job that brought me 0 satisfaction.
Former intelligence community member with a Master’s Degree (not very high up but intelligence nonetheless) that left the DC rat race and got my CDL 10 years ago. Best decision I made for myself. Now I deliver fuel locally and it’s a fun job.
No lie dude, I also studied accounting in college, worked in an office for several years and now I'm a truck driver too. Happy for you choosing your own path!
Corp Accountant listening to you (as I’m reviewing Financial Statements which we just published). Accounting is NOT for everyone. For me, I can’t imagine doing anything else without numbers. Numbers can’t lie. For this reason, I love what I do. Congrats on your COURAGE to leave a field that you’re unhappy with. Being HAPPY is the best gift you could ever give yourself!
So awesome to hear that you are enjoying accounting and love the career path you have chosen. I hope all of your account balances are accurate and month end goes smoothly :)
Some of the smartest people I know have trouble staying at jobs for years. I wholeheartedly believe that doing the same thing over and over is unnatural and causes serious mental anguish. Average people just accept this and suck it up. Intelligent people really struggle with it and will search for a solution, even if it means trying multiple avenues. Don’t give up if you’re searching for your place. Make connections with successful people. Most of your best opportunities will come from WHO you know, not WHAT you know.
100k a year local driver here, home every night. Dropped out of college. Couldn’t really imagine doing anything else. Can’t imagine being stuck in a soul sucking office. Keep the rubber side down brother.
Have a degree, had good jobs. But, you take your work home...so I got into plumbing. Been doing it for years, never had a problem getting paid, live in good areas, now looking towards retirement in about 10 years
I work in corporate and personally know a handful of people who gave it all up and switch their careers to something completely different (run a cafe, farming, flight attendant, just to name a few) and love that they found their passion in life. Much respect to you!
Hey man, I can relate to what you are saying because I went through the whole college experience and got my Bachelors in Architecture and landed jobs in Architecture companies as a draftsman and other engineering and interior design companies. Still wasn't very happy. Then decided to get my CDL and wanted to drive a truck which was something I always wanted to try when I was younger. Today, I'm an experienced truck driver with 4 yrs experience and happy and satisfied with my life. I'm 47 years old and see myself doing this until retirement. It's true what they say when you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work. So that's my story. Keep on trucking 🚚
That is so awesome you got into trucking at such an early age. I wish I did the same. Wishing you the best my friend and hope our paths cross out on the road. Be safe
@Def_Lyfe hey you did just fine. You have a nice voice, professional and yet super cool and relaxed. Presentation is golden. Nose, corner of eyes, lips, skin, clean. Your going to be fine, good luck :)
I agree. A CDL is a must have in life because you will always have some form of employment even if you decide commercial driving isn't for you at the end of the day. I like to think of it as a form of employment insurance. Especially if you are a young guy fresh out of school. I will never give up my CDL.
I’m in my early 20s, still deciding what to major in college, was considering accounting since it seems like a good middle-class job that is secure. Reading the comments and this video give me a new perspective. Thank you for being vulnerable. I worked cleaning trucks and the drivers looked happy, free, and boy did they have nice cars too. 15:29 Super excited for this!
Hey buddy I’m from Seattle and I’ve bounced between trucking and sales jobs, your vid came onto my feed just wanted to say thank you it was refreshing to see someone in your shoes, makes me feel better about my situation as well. God bless you
I've been at FedEx Express for 30 years. Start as a package handler, then package courier, then CDL truck driver and now into management. I think I might go back into the truck driving position. Because I enjoyed it so much. This was supposed to be a temporary job to get me through college. Ended up being a career which I don't regret.
Im a CPA at a top 10 firm as a bank auditor. I’ve survived the layoffs so far, but have always said that if it doesn’t work out, I’d look into commercial truck driving. I’m really happy to see how well you’re doing in this change.
Make more videos! You’re really soothing to listen to AND You have actual advice and knowledge AND you’re encouraging Yo, please keep making videos! You’re a natural!
The trucking and bus industry is stressful too. Got to meet deadlines, fight for "runs", deal with traffic, be away from home. I have had my CDL since 2001, it's rough in that field too...
I’m happy for you brother ! Degree in Economics. No jobs in 80’s started driving . 42 years and a few million miles later . No regrets . A lot of miles and a lot of smiles . Met many wonderful people and seen a lot of great places. Have a safe trip .
Trucking drama and politics is 10x worse. I hope you didn’t burn any bridges leaving the office world because 90% of CDL new hires won’t be in the industry past the 1 year mark.
I was a tax auditor wasting away in a cubicle. When I turned 50, I promised myself that I would quit and work in a trade. I now work in commercial pest elimination. I make way more than as an accountant. I enjoy going out in the field solving problems. It is meaningful.
Awesome story!! I was in audit as well towards the end of my career and the hours were brutal!! Audit was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Glad to hear you are doing so well in your new career. Best of luck my friend. This humble trucker is rooting for you!
Very opposite here, got my own trucking company, and I’m tired now I want to go back to the workforce haha. But this has made me more grateful to have my own business!
I drove for 8 years. Got cancer , decided to go to school. Finishing my PHD. I am a principal of a school. Probably going back to the trucking industry as a driver or in leadership lol. Wild ride.
Remind me of myself. I quit IT to work in the national parks, then in restaurants. Always wanted to do trucking, I think I would like it. I think your accounting skillset will serve you well down the road (no pun intended). I had to spend years reversing my burnout from IT and the office. For a while I couldn't even use a computer without "deflating" (for lack of a better word). Maybe in the future your knowledge of accounting will help you in running your own business but the accounting part will just be a small part of a bigger picture.
The reality about Asian culture is that... money is money, and more money is better. If people talk sh*t about what you need to do to make your money, go home and sleep on your mattress made of money. For those who matter to you, they won't mind what you do. And for those who mind and care what you do for your job, perhaps those people shouldn't matter to you
I also worked for the fed right out of college but only did it for one year before switching to a sales career which lasted for 30plus years. Thanks for sharing your story. Larry
Did 20 years corporate, computer science degree. Been driving a truck for 5 years now, did 2 yrs company flatbed then bought my own truck 2 yrs ago, started my intrastate authority and do work for farms. Live in the truck about an hr away from home for the week and return on weekends. Gross 1200-1700 a day depening on how many loads i can do a day. To make the 250-300k a year you have to do chemicals or heavy haul or something specialized. You can do that in dry van or reefer but its a lot harder and youndeal with shippers and recievers that are "normal folk. I miss the 8 hr work day and gym, now its 12-14 hr days but active and i have powerblocks to do workouts. I feel free and driving keeps your mind busy and you dont deal with the office life politics and no more dressing up. Being in a mobile office is a lot better than the static office. Pros and cons but im also am single and no children so its easy but its not a career you want if you desire a family imo.
@bicyclekikz14 it's a business once you own the truck. That being said you have to want to run a business and have a plan to produce revenue. Do you have money for repairs or can you fix it yourself. Major money savings if you can do it all yourself which is what I do but also is an entire whole job and you need tools etc. w2 driver life is easy peezy compared to owning the truck because once you own it if the wheels aren't turning you aren't earning as the saying goes. The freedom of working for yourself (1099), customers as your boss instead of a job boss, lol is better imo and worth the extra work of owning the truck. Finding customers or a company to lease under is also a skill you have to know before buying a truck because their all liars in some regard and the big companies require newer trucks if you want to lease under them, Oakley for example 5yrs or newer trucks must be.
Currently I am a pilot but I was a mortgage banker and got laid off. I went to get my cdl but right before I was going to start I pursued a pilot career. I also have my masters in accounting. With you having a degree you can get your teaching certificate in less than a year and travel the world as a teacher like I did. I taught in Asia making good money living cheap. You could also do taxes and booking keeping abroad from a laptop. Get up in running while you’re on the truck. If it wasn’t for this pilot career I’m pursuing I would have moved back to Asia and taught in the international schools or government schools. Good luck. I been where you are.
Do what makes you happy. I also went through schooling and realized I want to turn my brain off at work and leave work at work. That’s impossible to do at these corporate jobs that drain people’s souls. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting
I used to work in corporate banking and quit my job for many of the reasons you mentioned here. I now make RUclips videos breaking down the labor market and the history of American consumerism. I would love to interview you and see if you would be interested in sharing this with my audience. Very valuable conversation you shared. I don’t think I can share emails on RUclips comments but if you’re interested please feel free to send me an email, it’s in the description portion on my channel! Hope to talk soon
Really good to see you happy with your decision. I'm 44, i quit middle management in Banking when i was 41. I was burnt out, unappreciated, and didn't wanted to deal with the dumb crap anymore ie pointless meetings. I have several income streams with food delivery being one of them. I enjoy it, no-one to report to, can pick and choose deliveries.
Hey man thanks for the video. I've had similar experiences. Graduated from undergrad thinking I was going to be an attorney. I had a year before law school started so I got my CDL and went to work in the oilfield in Eastern MT and North Dakota. That was the 2011 timeframe when the economy was truly terrible. After a semester of law school I dropped out and went back to work in the oilfield driving truck and doing rig work. After a couple more years I got a job doing oil and gas reserve analysis for the Department of Energy in DC. It was a lot like accounting. So corporate. I ended up super-depressed and unhappy. I thought going back to school would give me a better shot at moving up in life, so I got an MBA. I worked as a consultant on projects for Facebook/Meta/Oculus but just hated it. For the last few years I've been back and forth between medical jobs and trucking. I really do enjoy trucking (mostly hauling fuel) but the stigma is real. Hearing stories like yours help me embrace doing honest work that will probably never lead me to being a CEO, but are still honorable and worthwhile. Looking forward to more content from you.
Because of my CDL I walked right in the door of a major municipality with all the benefits you can imagine. Now I’m making over 100k doing a non driving job I would have never had without a CDL. It’s not just a golden ticket to driving. It’s a ticket into an industry the depends on the experience of former CDL drivers.
@ I am a crew chief for a crew of drivers that delivers city assets like power poles, concrete vaults, transformers etc to the electrical lineman and splicers for civil construction projects. We also long haul equipment to and from the major city I work for to the 4 hydro-dams across the state.
@@matdamon471 Thank you for responding back. Sometimes we ask these questions and never hear back from the ppl... some like gatekeeping, so thank you!!
@@faa1412 no gatekeeping here. I’m always telling people that are unsure what they want to do to get a CDL. It literally is a golden ticket in your back pocket.
My friend was an accountant too just quit his job, he was a serial job hopper also and he's middle aged born in July too, I:m sending him this video now maybe he can watch your journey and get inspired to try something different
Going through a similar path, used to be a tech worker making over 6 figures but was absolutely miserable. I’m literally driving Ubers right now and learned so much about how people have to struggle, and just realized you gotta do what you gotta do
I’m so happy to hear that you found truck driving as well and am enjoying it. Wish you the best my friend and be safe out there. I’ll see you out on the road my Def brotha!
Sounds familiar! I was a Director Of Operations for a healthcare company. After almost 18 years I’d had enough. Long hours and rarely time off. I now work part time back in Nuclear Medicine and I couldn’t be happier! Good for you for finding your way out.
I've had my CDL A since 2018 here in California. Best decision I've ever made as far as searching for a career. Don't listen to truckers who say "trucking isn't worth it" because they've had horrible experiences themselves. Welcome aboard. Trucking is one of those careers that isn't talked about enough, and many people don't know about. Nomore being inside a warehouse allday or office building worry about a boss watching your every move. TRUCKING IS FREEDOM
Eyyyyyyy 🔥🔥🔥. Welcome to freedom, brother. That license is YOURS. I did the same almost three years ago. I’m hauling fuel for a major truck stop and have spoken to drivers at nearly every company, from all corners of trucking. I should’ve done this years ago. Some other trades pay more and work less hours, but there’s nothing like being on the road for a living. I could never enjoy being stuck on a job site all day and I also have some corporate experience. I think the most important thing is finding your niche. That’s the greatest thing about trucking, there’s at least a couple of dozen ways you can do it; not to mention the shifts and schedules. OTR/Regional/Local, Only Driving/Barely Driving, Day Driving/Night Driving, 14 Hour Shifts/8 Hour Shifts, Mountains/Downtown, Beach Weather/Winter Weather, Haul Chemicals, Haul Construction, Haul Tomatoes, Horses, People, Teddy Bears, 53’ trailer/26’ Box, Union/Non-Union, Owner/Company Driver. There’s a million combinations. If you find what fits you best, it’s a breeze. Trial and error can be tough, but you can 100% love it and easily switch it up when you’re ready. Get all of your endorsements and drive safely!
Will do my road brother!!! Thank you for the amazing advice and maybe our paths will cross on the road. Wish you the absolute best and this humble trucker is rooting for you!
@@bicyclekikz14I’m not sure of any specific to farm goods, maybe tanker? But, you should get as many endorsements as you can. They’re cheap and easy to get. I downloaded the CDL Test app to study for them. The questions and answers are almost exact, based on your state. I got Doubles/Triples, Hazmat and Tanker. Also, get your TWIC card. You never know what opportunities will come up, you should be prepared to take them and sometimes people will hire you based on qualifications that they don’t even need, but MIGHT need or simply by trusting you because you’re over-qualified.
Interesting story and thank you for sharing. Going through the same thing you went through right now and starting CDL school next month. Take care bud.
ive done blue collar work now for 10 years and while i often dont like the people i work with or their opinions ..i respect the hell out of them for the work they do....its not easy...its hard work and they do what is necessary for their families and themselves. im going thru a transition right now....because my back has been hurt....im not sure what i will do ....i have been considering getting my cdl...so i thank you for making this video....I am a journey man in my union and i am very grateful for all that it has given me...what is also nice is that i can take a withdrawl from the union and return at any time in the future....very grateful for that...also grateful that i have a pension with them....i hear that only 9% of Americans have a retirement pension....that is very sad....God bless and im happy your enjoying life...that is the way everyone should live. Peace
I’d highly recommend staying an accountant for a while. It’s very rewarding financially and allowed me to be a homeowner at a young age. Once you are financially set, then try something different but until then please work hard at being an Accountant.
Sorry you had a bad experience as well. I’d stick to being an accountant until you absolutely can’t take it anymore and then change to a career you enjoy. Accounting provided me a really good life and the opportunity to be a homeowner. Best of luck.
Congratulations on this journey! I live in Germany and have already thought about getting my truck driving licence several times so that I can work as a truck driver. My reason for being interested is that I no longer want to deal with colleagues in the office. I have no more desire to deal with their superficiality and their gossip. As a truck driver, you only see other people when loading and unloading. I find that very appealing.
It’s the whole corporate game! I played it, did well, but it failed my overall expectations. The money and perks were pretty good but now that I’m older, I don’t even really care about that shit anymore. I just want to work so I can live instead of living and giving my life to working. Just done playing the game…😅
I had a coworker who quit his corporate job to take a job delivering water bottles to companies. Within a few months, he lost 40 pounds and his demeanor changed dramatically for the better.
Keep crushing it bro. A former accountant here too, and quit years ago and switched my career to try other things in life to find my true passion and calling
My prediction is that you will own a successful trucking business in the near future. There is nothing wrong with being a driver but if you're really good with numbers, I'm sure you'll end up finding a more lucrative path in the near future. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Corporate office jobs have a way of just taking over your life. You can buy things for yourself, but your mind never has time to relax. Even if you have weekends free, it’s not enough time and you dread the week ahead. It’s a horrible way to live.
I’m in the tech industry. In my 50’s and got laid off. I’ve been looking for 6 months and am getting close to being hired again (fingers crossed), but I can see the writing on the wall as I get older. I’m now interviewing with people younger than me, sometimes much younger. My background and experience is hard to come by, so I think I can make it into my early 60’s if I’m lucky…but then what. I’ve always liked trucks and big rigs. Never even considered getting a CDL to keep the income flowing in between tech jobs, but that’s a really interesting idea. Like you said…why not. Plus I’ll get to drive around in a giant toy! Thanks for posting this video.
I’m really sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the older you get, the harder it becomes to get hired especially in tech. Most companies want the young saavy type of person. On the bright side, the world is your oyster where you can do and try whatever you want my friend. This humble trucker is rooting for you.
I’m an accountant. Senior director in biotech. I totally get your story. I love my job but I get to work remote from Texas. Changes everything from depressing to flexible and more enjoyable.
Work from home has changed the game...i felt just like you when i had to commute to the office 5 days...remote work gives me all the flexibility back thankfully. I find the work fairly meaningless too but honestly i dont care once i can spend more time with my kids and on myself etc
That is so awesome to hear. Not many people get the benefit to spend more time with their kids. Hope they are doing well and I'm sure they enjoy every moment you give them. Wish you the best!
I love how you have the courage to change your career. Not many people will take step of faith unless being unemployed. As a white collar worker, I feel there is an emptiness since all the work we do are abstract. I see when we get to certain age we prefer to work with our hands because we see the physical result of our works. Keep it up!
I'm an Analyst in Texas & always in Excel. Been working for same company going on 25 years now. Been weighing whether or not to get my CDL. I'm also Asian, lol. I heard gas delivery drivers make hella cash & can work local routes only. Might try for that before eventually retiring early to Malaysia. Thanks for the insight.
Congrats, man. Happy to hear you found something more fulfilling. Good on you for recognizing you needed a change. A lot of people know it but never move.
I quit my DOD engineering job because I was sick of running the copying machine. The work was easy, the benefits were great, but the job was boring as hell. Went to work a chemical company where I worked my ass off for the next 28 years. But, I wasn't bored, I learned a ton, felt like I contributed to the company, and helped keep the company in business.
Also grateful I got into trucking too! I deliver auto parts, unlimited OT!. Double time after 12. Here in Cali, my checks are always over $1,400 a week take home, and I pay a LOT in taxes. Local work, I drive around California only.
I wish you all the best my man, you are an inspiration. Been working in FP&A/accounting for almost 8 years and while it pays the bills, it’s definitely soul sucking at this point….i loved the big rigs as a kid and still do, who knows, I might be out there driving one on the road next to ya some day 😂 drive safe pal, take care of yourself out there my dude 🤙🏽
My man! I don’t know how you FP&A guys do it. The hours are brutal! But you’re not dead yet and can do whatever you want in life. Life’s all about trying new things to find happiness. Wish you the best and hopefully , I’ll see you on the road my guy.
I am so glad I watched this video! It truly is a message of learning to be and work in a place of peace! I just relized what Bruce Lee meant when he said, "Empty your cup so that it may be filled." Basically, let go and you will have more. And, thats more than money can buy.
That’s awesome, man! I come from a Software Engineering background but made the switch to manufacturing. And no, I’m not in the office-I’m out on the floor, and I love it. The environment is great, with minimal politics and a level playing field when it comes to pay. I’ve been diving deep into stock investing lately and plan to keep going strong into 2025 when the big BOOOOM hits. Wishing you the best of luck too, brother!
I’m in software engineering currently, been doing it for almost 7 years now and never truely enjoyed it. I am planning on going into a carpentry or sheet metal Union next spring.
I loved hearing your story. I too went to college and got my BA in French with the intention of getting a doctorate and becoming a professor, but I became disillusioned with academia and ended up becoming a mechanical maintenance mechanic. I'm so much happier doing what I do now. I just have to fix machines, fabricate parts, and troubleshoot problems, that's it.
same in Ohio..u can deliver fuel out of columbus ohio for sheetz..$41 per hours overtime after 40 hour per week..home everyday ..u will need your hazmat endorsement
I drove for 24 years..sold my truck and retired 3 years ago(I was 57). It will grind u down to the bare bone of your core..BUT it will make u money and always be there. The key is to specialize..find a niche and it will pay u very well. Take care of your license and health..most of all don't listen to the nay sayers. It's a mental game like everything..have patience and faith in yourself. Good luck and be safe.

Same here brother. I've been in the corporate world as Senior developer now the happiest truck driver. From two screens in a dark room to two large screens on open field view. Listening to podcasts and talking to my family all day. No more corporate bs.
Hell yeah!!! I do the same. Listen to podcasts casts all day and enjoy my own company. No more going to 3-4 pointless meetings everyday!!
Awesome video. I am a 55 year old mechanical engineer about to go through my first layoff. This sounds so intriguing. No meetings, no office politics. Keep us updated on your adventures!
People who usually switch to a driving job mostly want to be left alone. It's the people at the work place.
I worked at a Fortune 100 company and I can relate. Not only were people miserable but they had to PRETEND to be super excited about everything. The fakeness was neauseating.
This. I cant deal with having to act like best friends with people who I don't really want to associate with
It’s good to see another Asian brother
Amen. Always good to see another brother from the far east. Stay safe my friend.
My man! That’s awesome to hear. Maybe I’ll see you out on the road. Stay blessed my friend.
Great video. I'm 46, I've been at my job for 20yrs and is starting to frustrate me. Glad i came across your video.
You aren't dead yet! Still have a few decades left in you. You can do anything you want in this life and be happy. Wishing you the best my friend.
Former intelligence community member with a Master’s Degree (not very high up but intelligence nonetheless) that left the DC rat race and got my CDL 10 years ago. Best decision I made for myself. Now I deliver fuel locally and it’s a fun job.
I just lost my job a few days ago. This video is very uplifting and gives me hope thanks man!
U don't get to your point until u put in some years. Unless u know people and get a good gig
Have a degree, had good jobs. But, you take your work home...so I got into plumbing. Been doing it for years, never had a problem getting paid, live in good areas, now looking towards retirement in about 10 years
I am here as a CDL driver. Love my job for sure. Wish you the best!
I like these life videos from regular people. Thanks for sharing
And thank you for taking the time to watch thus humble truckers story.
im 22 and just started trucking as a full time job, and so far pretty good. decent pay, and not forced to a set 9-5 schedule in a cubical every day
That is so awesome you got into trucking at such an early age. I wish I did the same. Wishing you the best my friend and hope our paths cross out on the road. Be safe
@ you too man! good luck :)
Yes he is soothing to listen to and nice to look at. Excellent video.
He is 😍
Thank you! I was so nervous filming my first ever video, but glad it came out ok.
@Def_Lyfe hey you did just fine. You have a nice voice, professional and yet super cool and relaxed. Presentation is golden. Nose, corner of eyes, lips, skin, clean. Your going to be fine, good luck :)
Who doesn’t hate their jobs these days? Everyone must find their own journey. Love your spirit, subscribed to see your new endeavor
I agree. A CDL is a must have in life because you will always have some form of employment even if you decide commercial driving isn't for you at the end of the day. I like to think of it as a form of employment insurance. Especially if you are a young guy fresh out of school. I will never give up my CDL.
Hell yeah brotha!
I don't know you, but I am very proud of you for choosing YOU.
Awww, that means so much to this blue collar trucker. Wish you the best and hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones.
Im a housekeeper at a nursing home. It's low stress and rewarding. I make a point to love people. Very lowley or whatever but i feel content at least.
Good for you for helping others out! Wishing you the best.
Im a CPA at a top 10 firm as a bank auditor. I’ve survived the layoffs so far, but have always said that if it doesn’t work out, I’d look into commercial truck driving. I’m really happy to see how well you’re doing in this change.
That’s awesome man. I’d stay a CPA as long as you can! Trucking will always be here when you can’t stand to do another v Look up.
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today is the most important day of your life.
Amen my friend
Make more videos!
You’re really soothing to listen to
AND
You have actual advice and knowledge
AND
you’re encouraging
Yo, please keep making videos!
You’re a natural!
Thank you! I was so nervous filming my first ever video. I’ll keep it up. More videos coming next week!
The trucking and bus industry is stressful too. Got to meet deadlines, fight for "runs", deal with traffic, be away from home. I have had my CDL since 2001, it's rough in that field too...
Different stress than the office life. Some people handle it better.
I’m happy for you brother !
Degree in Economics. No jobs in 80’s started driving . 42 years and a few million miles later . No regrets . A lot of miles and a lot of smiles . Met many wonderful people and seen a lot of great places.
Have a safe trip .
I cant stand office politics. It damages my soul.
Lord, same here! Where do I even begin. Will take me an hour long video to explain all the corporate BS I've witnessed.
I’m always to high on drugs to get a cdl I hate America I’m 26 already tired of being tired…
Man you ain’t lying, the office is the worst & nobody knows that unless you actually are in there
It's really depressing
I feel you brother. I was an insurance broker, now I am a plumber.
Great move, all the trades need workers to replace those retiring.
Very opposite here, got my own trucking company, and I’m tired now I want to go back to the workforce haha. But this has made me more grateful to have my own business!
So where do you store your truck when not in use?
I drove for 8 years. Got cancer , decided to go to school. Finishing my PHD. I am a principal of a school. Probably going back to the trucking industry as a driver or in leadership lol. Wild ride.
Wow! You are incredible. I love America. You can truly be anything you want here
Lmaooo you are inspiring
Principal of school with a phd 🤣 what a waste of time
Remind me of myself.
And for those who mind and care what you do for your job, perhaps those people shouldn't matter to you
Nice video, bro. I’m a CPA and work in banking. It’s boring but stressful at the same time. Kind of a drag. Don’t blame you on your decisions.
I also worked for the fed right out of college but only did it for one year before switching to a sales career which lasted for 30plus years. Thanks for sharing your story. Larry
And thank you for sharing yours! The Fee was an awesome place to work in my opinion. Best of luck to you and glad you found a career you enjoy.
Even i from IT left my Comfortable SE job of 12 years to being a Truck Driver career and i enjoy evry second of it.
I’m an accountant too. Totally relate. Good for you for escaping and trying something else. Life is short!
Yeah bro go for it!
Let go of your past life. Share your road experiences as a truck driver.
Thank you! I plan on doing a day in the life and coming out with more videos! Wish you the best my friend.
@@PFeal after all fees of owning a truck, is it better than just working for a company truck? Why u prefer owning your own?
Solid advice! Thank you for sharing. I’ve actually thought about teaching abroad before. Maybe when I get tired of trucking, I’m lol give it a go!
Do what makes you happy. I also went through schooling and realized I want to turn my brain off at work and leave work at work. That’s impossible to do at these corporate jobs that drain people’s souls. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting
100%
And thank you for watching! Best of luck to you!
Congrats to you for finding something that makes you happy
Thanks brother
I used to work in corporate banking and quit my job for many of the reasons you mentioned here. I now make RUclips videos breaking down the labor market and the history of American consumerism. I would love to interview you and see if you would be interested in sharing this with my audience. Very valuable conversation you shared. I don’t think I can share emails on RUclips comments but if you’re interested please feel free to send me an email, it’s in the description portion on my channel! Hope to talk soon
Consumerism is overrated. Less is more.
I applaud you on your decision to find a new career. It takes courage to enter an entirely new field. Good deal.
Thank you so much! Hope all is well on your end.
What's the job?
@@thisperson6655 think of jobs that require a bigger service truck to drive around.
I’m literally driving Ubers right now and learned so much about how people have to struggle, and just realized you gotta do what you gotta do
Wish you the best my man! If you enjoy driving, I would highly recommend getting a cdl.
Glad I found this video. Left my corporate job as a risk analyst and got my CDL almost 2 years ago and have not looked back. I love this shit.
Accountant here, loved watching your video. This is so relatable!
Thanks for taking a break from those spreadsheets and watching this humble truckers video. Wishing you the best.
I am going to become a truck driver early in 2025. 32 years old. Total change of career and starting life from the beginning.
Good luck, made that change a few years back, almost 4 years ago, great decision
Absolutely this yall!!! Appreciate the sound advice and wishing you the best my friend
How much is the CA taxes eating up ur paychecks cuz I just got my CA CDL lol
I think the solution to all my problems is that I prefer to be on my own otherwise I’m constantly exhausted faking it
Eyyyyyyy 🔥🔥🔥.
@@MufflePuff what you suggest the endorsements I should take? I'm interested/thinking of in delivering farm goods
Well done man! Been trucking for 4 years after working various jobs for 15 years. Best decision. I’m home every second day and weekends off.
Peace
I also studied accounting in college and currently in corporate. I day dream of your path a lot lol. Thanks for the video
I’d highly recommend staying an accountant for a while. It’s very rewarding financially and allowed me to be a homeowner at a young age. Once you are financially set, then try something different but until then please work hard at being an Accountant.
Your happiness means EVERYTHING!! Go for what makes you happy!
Your accounting job sounds like my last job. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
White collar work is toxic
For specific individuals @@BoondockSaint-l2q
Sitting in an office staring at a computer is so unnatural and soul-sucking.
@ my ancestors for thousands of years worked under the hot sun in fields. Now I’m in a cubicle all day. I’m not built for this.
@@TysonGreatPyrenees why thank you!
Corporate office jobs have a way of just taking over your life. You can buy things for yourself, but your mind never has time to relax. Even if you have weekends free, it’s not enough time and you dread the week ahead. It’s a horrible way to live.
If you feel trapped in anything, leave. You choose the course of your life, and don't have to justify anything to anyone.
All around wise words. Thank you for your story, i assure you this just saved a lot of people who are in a very down mindset.
Keep it up!
Thank you so much. Hope all is well my friend!
Thanks for your story and information. It's nice to see someone happy with what they are doing.
Ive been working for 28 years in the same corporation. Im numb at this point. I couldn’t care less about my trash salary and job.
This is the best video I've seen in a while, thank you.
Got my Cdl at 50. Worked in customer service. Best move I ever made.
Awesome to hear. Maybe our paths will cross over the highway someday.
I really hope this channel blows up. Great content 👍
Thanks for sharing the powerful quote! Hope all is well on your end and thanks for watching!
It will grind u down to the bare bone of your core..BUT it will make u money and always be there.
The key is to specialize..find a niche and it will pay u very well.
