I saw this show a few years back- what a treat to see Ry Cooder from about ten feet away. I can't even express how disappointed I was when they announced he wasn't going to join the rest of the group post-concert for autographs and whatnot.
+SF Jazzer - It was a special night for sure, They are all such great musicians. I'm a big Ry Cooder fan, and he did not disappoint. I recorded all the audio, wish I had more video, but I wanted to just be in the moment.
I saw this band in concert at Carnegie Hall in the Zankel Hall Theater. It was one of the best concerts I've ever heard! They all brought out the very best in each other. 🙂
+John Douglas They picked a great line up of songs and they really seemed to enjoy themselves! I'm thrilled that I got to see them perform. I've learned to play a few of the songs they did, especially like the song "Old Home Place".
+Chris Gubitose - My weekly bluegrass jam group does OLD HOME PLACE. It's a BIG crowd favorite. Robert Earl Keen also did it on his recent CD of bluegrass standards. The CD is called HAPPY PRISONER.
Thomas Hardey It's called "Hold Whatcha Got". Great song. What a tone that Ry Cooder gets and the Mandolin solo is amazing. Buck White blew me away that night.
+Thomas Hardey I learned Old Home Place after hearing it at this show. I'll have to checkout that CD. Also Pan America Boogie, learn that one too! I love REK. If you are ever in Greenville, SC come out to the Albino Skunk Music Festival and we'll see you there. It's a great Bluegrass/Americana 3 day festival. Heading to Merlefest next week.
"Hold Whatcha Got! Interesting, because there is a somewhat racier song which Ry and David Lindley did that you can find on RUclips entitled " Hold That Snake!". the lyric went something like "you better hold that snake until I make it...." I'm guessing it was a song about the temptation to cheat while her significant other was away.
I've done it! It is unfair! Sorry! You get to watch and feel wonderful without any of the work (which is like researching and making investment except for the frustration, discipline, and labor🤭Sheesh!) Love your comment!
Thanks a lot, Chris! Oh man, I love this. As Crystal asked: Do you have more perhaps? Would be much appreciated. I wish I was there. Hope they will tour Europe.
+Crystal Longdon Hi Crystal, no, I can't make it that night, unfortunately. I hope you have a great time! The Peace Center is another great place to see an performance. Hope you record and post some videos from the show!
+Crystal Longdon I saw them in Arcata October 5th, probably the best show I have seen in a decade and I go to alot of shows! They were phenomenal and Ry was amazing. His son is a very good drummer, my friend and I were just in heaven. Love to hear others feel the same!
Thanks Crystal. I actually figured it out shortly after posting this question. I now lead this song regularly at my weekly bluegrass jam. It's a crowd favorite.
Ryland Cooder is a national treasure. His contributions to the musical landscape cannot overestimated.
I couldn't agree more. His Into The Purple Valley album is one of my all time favorites.
Not to mention ‘The UFO’s Have Landed on the Ghetto.’
Amen!

+Katy D Thanks Katy it was a great show in Knoxville. They really were having a great time and it showed thru in their music.
Thank you very much!!!!
The joy! Almost as good as the music is the expression on the faces of the family members when one of them solos. : )
They were really fun to see, so talented and at a great historic theatre.

Incredible musicians!
what we have here friends are world class musicians having essentially world class fun!---
now why in the heck don't they record together
kingblee1 Because that can suck the fun right out of it. I recorded the whole show and it was pretty awesome! I love Ry Cooder.
Pretty darned great. Felt like Ry pushed Ricky into a much bluesier mando solo than he might have otherwise done. That was inspired.
They were going to play in a small auditorium near me and cancelled. It was my only chance to see Ry Cooder.
i saw them in vancouver on oct o8. fantastic show. i can die a happy man now

Chris, sounds like a great time. I found bluegrass only recently (Mandolin) and absolutely love it. I look forward to many festivals to come.
With a name like Ry Cooder, you gotta be good…and he is.
Just lovely
HAWAIIAN STYLE SSSNACKKEY!!!!!! BLESS US ALL!!
The piano solo....👍🏻
Buck White is awesome piano player. Check out his album More Pretty Girls Than One
Speechless.

Imagine being paid to have as much fun as that!! Life is so unfair...

Disappointed to miss this tour...
Thanks a lot, Chris! Oh man, I love this. As Crystal asked: Do you have more perhaps? Would be much appreciated. I wish I was there. Hope they will tour Europe.
+Tjerk Snik Sorry just this one, but a great one! Hope you get to see them.
+Chris Gubitose, Are you perhaps going to see them again (like I am) at the Peace Center in Greeneville?
+Crystal Longdon Hi Crystal, no, I can't make it that night, unfortunately. I hope you have a great time! The Peace Center is another great place to see an performance. Hope you record and post some videos from the show!
Thank you, Chris! This is great; I was there....do you have more, perhaps?
+Crystal Longdon Hi Crystal, what a great show. Sorry i only taped that song, but boy what a doozie!
Yes, probably my favorite of the night! That and PanAmerican Boogie! And You Must Unload....and, well the whole show!
+Crystal Longdon Yeah, I want to learn how to play Pan American Boogie. I was looking up the lyrics. Great night!
+Crystal Longdon I saw them in Arcata October 5th, probably the best show I have seen in a decade and I go to alot of shows! They were phenomenal and Ry was amazing. His son is a very good drummer, my friend and I were just in heaven. Love to hear others feel the same!
+Susan Vandermeer I am going again to see them in two weeks! So excited!
Wow!…I enjoyed that!
Greatness
I hear Ry plays banjo with this ensemble. Is that true?
He had a banjo and a couple bazookies as well as two electric guitars. Ricky Skaggs had a guitar and fiddle as well as his mandolin.
What's the name of this song?
Guarantee you 100% Ry will never step on stage with the MAGAt Rick Q. Skaggs ever again!!!
Very true!
What song is this? Anyone know?
"Hold What You Got" by Jimmy Martin.
Thanks Crystal. I actually figured it out shortly after posting this question. I now lead this song regularly at my weekly bluegrass jam. It's a crowd favorite.
O rei do tex-mex!
Ricky's beginning to look like Bill Monroe in his latter days.
i cant listen to anything with horrible acustics like this, my ears just pucked
That was a beauty
