- Ever wondered why these USA-made loudspeakers are so sought after? Well one of the reasons is the simplicity in the design to facilitate maintenance. Watch Craig as he refurbishes an Image Dynamics IDMAX sub in just minutes
I saw a redo of a 10” sub on another channel which had a very detailed method of a rebuild using a humongous magnet structure much like yours. The exception being that sub build was from scratch, if you will, where yours utilized an assembly. Yours was a lot less headache and I found it informative and entertaining! I would have had to walk away on occasion from the sub assembly on that other channel. That build was way tedious as most anyone who has had to do a rebuild from scratch could tell you. Good job Craig!👍🏻
That looks so easy even I could probably do it!
I always appreciated the companies that did this. Boston Acoustic subs are very similar and go together super nice. We did Bens G5 12’s and I just did some SPG-555. Great video brother Craig
Awesome video
I love image dynamics. My first set of mids and highs back in 99 where image dynamics.
Very cool Craig. The IDMax 15 is my favorite Loud SQ subwoofer ever. Been searching for a nice V3 but, they are almost impossible to find. Keep searching I guess
I have v3 8s and got the recone kit today. Problem is the shims are way too wide to fit through the lower basket holes where you pull them out after. It's as if they're designed for the larger subs.
I still remember being shocked the first time I had to pull one apart at how damn easy they are to strip and rebuild. I think that was a v2 so fair while ago now
looks pretty straightforward are there any other brands of subwoofers that can be changed out like that?
Not sure Eric... but none I have encountered.
@@OldSchoolCarAudio that's an interesting subwoofer great option if you needed to change impedance.
How thick are those shims? I have a IDMAX 12” I need to realign.
Great video Craig!
I can measure them...
My guess is .003-.005”
My idq8 shims are 15 thousandths or .38mm. (Yes, super old post, but just for information)
Tried this on my IDQ8s and it comes nowhere close to alignment. Both rub, no matter how carefully I assemble them. Makes no sense.
sounds like you have either not aligned the coil correctly or have another issue related to the basket, or potentially over torqued the screws. It shouldn't rub at all.
Can you suggest a substitute shim or it's thickness, can't find mines thank you
Ten thousands of an inch (.010)
That has gotta be the easiest recone process I've ever seen.
Easiest recone ever lol
Really?? No glue?? Surely power handling cant be very high with just screws holding that together like that??
deVille NM actually those subs will handle about 1000 watts rms
@@legendsofcaraudiobradnewso8424 thats more than i would have thought but now days its not too big of a deal. Lol makes my 3 rockford p3d2 10s on 3 p500x1bd amps seem weak. I remember when 2 punch 12s on a punch 100 was bonkers. Lol now i have 10s eating up every bit of power my punch 500s will dish. Crazy to think my system is not that great compared to most.
I'd just want to replace the surround since they get hard and do crack (I have a v1).
