There are some tunes, Sonny boy Williamson made for checker label that Little Water can’t touch and there are some tunes little Walter on checker label that Sonnyboy can’t touch, I seen Little Water twice once in 59, and once in 62 what memories😎 I’m 80 & still hep
Important point.

@@cobrastrikesagain6385 Please tell more
Am I the only one to spot Davey Graham here? In 1963. An overused term - awesome.
Сони молодец. Царствие небесное земля пухом тебе великий блюзмэн
Любимый мой музыкант стиля блюэ"гармоника" и "чикаго блюз".Обожаю этот стиль блюз.
When I was a boy, only a thing I would be liked to do, to play the harmonica like Sonny Boy Williamson. The greatest Master!
The real blues. I loved listening to this man, along with Howlin'Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and so many others back in the 60s.
Amazing harp and voice Sonny was amazing!!
Is no one talking about the voice, the range, depth, whatever music people call it, phenomenal !
Don't start me to talkin, I'll tell everything I know...
It's all we talk about, he had it in spades
Smoke in the City.
Its called blues music
Sonny may be gone but he isn't forgotten. One of the best harp players the world ever knew. What a sound and what a great voice he had. Heaven is jamming with him and I bet Ray Charles is not too far away and they are playing and singing together!
This Back Band didn't know the chord changes for " Don't start me talking " 2nd verse needs to stay 4 more Bars In C7 before go up to F7,,, Sonny Boy,, Please forgive them ,they just don't know the blues..
Brancos negros todos juntos pela musica, essa era uma época difícil ... Black whites all together for music
Sonny Boy - I LOVE THIS GIANT, THIS MASTER. He's my first Blues Idol !!
This guy is simply the best harmonica player ever.
He's got the soul of the blues and his performance it's the personification of the excellence in the music. He was really a phenomenal master.
❤don’t stop telling your friends and family about these heroes of the blues keep it alive xxx
Maybe remove the ads, that should work. I don’t fkn get it. There all gone who is benefiting from this
Just can't spend a day at work without listening to this.
Like Count Basie, every tune Sonny Boy ever played became magically mellow and funky and irresistibly foot-tapping.
Sonny Boy Williamson, simply brilliant
I was born in 1986, but when I listen to this legend I feel like I was born in 1886. A man born well after my time..
i’m born1984 from france i m enjoying his musics
Brilliant.....been a fan for years....No one better!!!!!
this is a top performance from a blues icon the BOSS
It sure would have been nice if the back up band realized this is a 16 bar blues NOT an 12 bar!
Pas la peine de revenir sur ce que tous les groupes anglais des 60's doivent à tout ce blues qu'ils ont aussi propulsé et remis au goût du jour en mettant fin au "rockabilly" blanc..
Thanks for posting! My uncle told me Sonny Boy Williams, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf and many more would stop by his fathers/my grand dads Juke joint/Bar in Mississippi...where they made corn whisky. He said he actually met them (the above names) and plenty others. Talk about history. I guess this is why I LOVE Blues music...from long time.
WOW! 😲
Sonny Boy Williamson one of the great blues men without a doubt, that looks like Davy Graham in the background playing guitar
It does! Another legend accompanying a Blues legend.
Absolutely amazing artistry and gentle play of harmonica plus those vocals alongside with ol' time blues. Golden gate to blissful day
This is 1963.As far as I know, racial segregation in these years was quite pronounced in the United States. Black people were not allowed into certain institutions, and so on. But in this video, we see how the white presenter respectfully represents the black artist, and the white man accompanies him on the guitar. I previously assumed that this was hardly possible in those years. Can anyone comment? Thanks.
@Ramona Rael
Recorded in U.K. Hullabaloo TV Show 21 Dec. 1963
Yea blues in America was tragic , they were highly respected in the UK.
This isn't Sonny Boy Williamson THE 1ST (Born 1914!!) who wrote songs and played the 1st Blues Harmonica.... Sonny Boy the 1st wrote many early Blues like "Hello Schoolgirl" a delightful old blues standard. This SBW (1) had an early, accidental, demise in 1947. I believe this SBW2 may possibly have capitalized upon the reputation of the first SBW(1).
I cannot find the references to confidently support this but I also think SBW1 wrote "Ain't But One Way Out". The history on the Internet regarding these TWO Blues men is not clear on this (What is clear on the internet?!) but the song was made famous by the Allman Brothers Band (60's -70's) who made a fantastic copy of that old standard.
The lyrics go something like this:
"Ain't but one way out baby - Lord I just can't go out that door...
Cause there's a man down there, might be your man, I don't know...
I THINK Sonny Boy Williamson 1 wrote this, but I am not 100% sure. I would just like to see these Blues Classics attributed to THE CORRECT AUTHOR, they deserve at least that much, as so many, like Sonny Boy Williamson the 1st died in obscurity when their music has repeatedly been copied and brought delight to Blues appreciators like myself.
Thank You for this.
That’s Davy Graham on acoustic guitar ,it look likes him
It is him.
Man I've never seen this performance before. Absolutely love it! 🎶
Yes definitely the greatest harmonica player in the world not just blues but otherwise as well,he can chew, bite & make the harmonica talk, one of the finest blues singer as well, real treat to hear him perform
Not only hear him -- but SEE him. I had vinyl albums of his, and now have RUclips and can see him perform. Thank you for these wonderful videos, and for valuing and presenting the underappreciated blues music. 🎵
86 baby and I swear I love this I can listen to this all day way better then rap
Such talent, I love this it puts me in the mood
5 hurtin souls gave this wondeeful piece of Art a thumbs down. Makes me afraid of what else they're capable of. Look out.. anything is possible apparently...
They aren't fit to be human beings. If this isn't the best of Blues artistry ever nothing is!
Viejitossss chingon como nos llenan de alegria la vida cuando los ve uno neta mis repetos para estos grandes musicoooo 😄👍 saludos donde quiere q esten
WORLDS GREATEST. LOVED HIS BLUES
Viejo... Quiero estar ahí!!! porfa-vor 👀😍💖🥂🎉🎊🎇😲👍👌👋
😉💥If anyone else is watching and thought that you knew the Blues, then best be seated because the realist taste of blues have just captured you too! 😮 😢 🤣
You said it .
A true legend
Imagine performing to an audience of people who aren't even tapping a foot....
Gee, the folks in the stands are so serious - shake-em or something - conditioned to think looks more intelligent if you have no facial expressions - rigid like a stick - scary - afraid to show real self.
The band was going to the 4 chord too soon . It made it where Sonny Boy was having to finish the verse at the start of the next round .
Mr Sonny Boy Wiliamson inspired me long ago and thats how i learnd to play the harmonica
Sonny Bioy was the first genuine Bluesmen I saw live at the Marquee Blues Club in Soho, London, and I have been a Blues fan accross the board ever since.
У "старых" блюзменов инструмент был частью мысли, сердца, души и тела... Сонни Бой яркий пример. Низкий поклон таланту! Снимаю шляпу как говорится. Сейчас одна коммерция. Блюз ушёл вместе с этими людьми.
The blues left with these people, agree. Now is like progressive blues if I might say.
que negro impresionantemente crack!
That's how you play a mouth Organ, This a great performance
Sonny Boy the best ever !!!!!!

@8 Bit Hero if you think that it looks like they were grooving, and being "respectful"rock on buddy
@@jimmydjimmyd1349 This was a UK TV folk music show. People sat and listened (Sonny Boy had NEVER appeared in the UK before, he was SOMETHING!) and showed their appreciation at the end of a number.
I was in Portugal the first time someone showed me this, years ago...
Now in Australia and new friends still listen to Sonny Boy Williamson !
This is superb. Thanks for sharing :)
He Sonny boy Williamson he power
Es el único y más chingon nunca habrá otro como el si señor
El mejor cantante con MAYUSCULA del Mundo SONY BOY y el pobre murio en pobreza y otros sacando pasta detrás de su talento. QUE VERGUENZA...!¡
He's lenged of the blues
The guys doing the backing here clearly have no idea what the harmonic structure of this number is
OH SACRE SONNY BOY WILLIAMSON/PLEASE DON T START ME TO DREEM WITH YOUR MAJIC HARMONICA BLUES.
Soulful harp! Heard some great players: Kim Wilson, Norton Buffalo etc. but Sonny was tops.
this guy lives his music
Nice footage but this Britisch backing band played the first song wrong!! They play a usual12 bar blues but that is not what it should be. Listen to the original version..(or Rory Gallagher's version of this song). First verse has 4 sentences , 2nd and 3rd verse 8 sentences before going to the chorus. The band keeps playing like the first verse. Sonny Boy does it well.
Look all you Led Zeppelin AND Blues fanatics.. Music has as many various genres as a person have emotions. It's childish to say "if it wasn't for the Blues there would be no Led Zeppelin.." That's like saying "if it wasn't for Africa, slavery and cotton fields there would be no Blues.." Blues is AMERICAN music predominantly initiated by Black Americans HOWEVER within the entire melting pot that is/was America and that INCLUDE French Creole, Irish, Swedish, German, Italian, Spanish folk music, Native American Tribal music.. All those AMERICAN factions & more helped create the Blues.. Equally LedZeppelin created as a band so much epic material that wasn't just influenced by the Blues but also just as many Classical European, Middle Eastern, Middle Age European, Scottish, Irish Gaelic, Keltish and Welsh influences can be traced. We should be glad that Led Zeppelin were very inluenced by the Blues, just like the Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, The Beatles and many, many other British bands were at that time because they eventually created their very own sound and style from so many other forms of music and beyond - The Blues just like Classical and Folk & Country are all influenced by various factors as well as by history and geography that WE the people can relate to no matter who & what we are. IMO you should never stereotype any music because just like people we come from so many different sources
yea tuff!! Davy Graham there on acoustic, this is a gem of a recording
Super!!
Pianist is great as well
Grew up in Greenville Mississippi there was a street called Nelson a block of shotgun houses converted into juke joints, they sold them big ol hamburgers, you know the kind they pat out and when you bite it juice run down your arm, you could get a trawf of Hog Maws and rice for $1 the fried buffalo fish Scent filled the air every man wanted to be Sonny Boy they all dressed sharp and played harmonicas
Hell Yea Robert Boggs
I visited his grave in 1996. Was finally well kept, but took some looking to find it. RIP Sonny Boy Williamson II.
He makes it look so easy
Which Sonny Boy are taking about? The first Sonny Boy was killed in the late 1940's l believe.
I'd love to hear the guitar player, he looks so busy, it may be good.
Check out Davy Graham - he's the guitarist.

This video proves lil Walter made it to Europe after Chess passed. He didn't die first. Movie does say based on and not actual
Um gênio

Такое ощущение, что смотрю на черного Никулина
Это все, что Вы вынесли из этого шедевра????
you think you heard it all.......and then you run into this.......the authentic.........
a legend..
The Blues doesn't get any better or more real than this...
I'm doing my best. Sometimes I really have a bad mouth on m8qq 1:39 1:40
You cant play harp if you can't play this
Negro genio!
He sounds like the black Joe Cocker when he's not heaving his voice.
Simplemente ueno
Música de verdade
Is that Davey Graham on acoustic guitar?
What key and harmonica is that? Not his usual richter tuned chromatic?
The band didn't know the progression to Don't Start Me Talkin', and Sonny Boy just rolled with it.
Exactly
Yup. They didn't know the stops. The best version is the Chess version with Muddy Waters, Jimmy Rogers, Willie Dixon, Otis Spann and Fred Below.
Musicianship and time; he put the standards and are very high for any follower! Probably the best, for me yes, blues harmonica player in time, but he is among the few, of any kind of music, that exceeds the limits of the kind of music he use to play. It was known that he didn't have any problem of jumping on the stage to play, with, for example Dexter Gordon! The most musical of all!
What?! My favorite blues musician Sonny Boy Williamson on harmonica played with my favorite jazz musician on saxophone!? I saw the Sophisticated Giant play many times, but never Sonny Boy. Do you know when and where, and if it was taped or filmed? There's an album of Sonny Boy Williamson playing with The Yardbirds.
@@marymichael1211 It happened in Milan with Gordon, I don't know when, for sure in '60s. There is also an album with the Animals, same period in UK, another one with Brian Auger, Jimmy Page, Joe Harriot, Alan Skidmore and others, a jam session in studio, just before leaving UK for USA for the last time, after some months he passed away. Especially in the album you can see his skills in playing with jazz musicians, it's one of my favorite albums. Before passing away he was meeting with "The Band", social meetings in the US South. He has been a great influence, same as Muddy Waters, for the young British musicians. These two paved the way for the rock stars of '60s in England. The album with Yardbirds, is a real masterpiece.
Thank you so much for all of this information. I saw Dexter Gordon play a few times at Keystone Korner in San Francisco after he returned to America. At the end of the set the 6'5" Sophisticated Giant would take a deep bow and extend his saxophone lying lengthwise out in front of him. I never had the opportunity to see Sonny Boy in person nor at all playing until gratefully the technology to see videos. I know that the blues, especially Muddy Waters, was an influence on British rock but I didn't know that Sonny Boy travelled around and played with so many, and jazz and Dexter Gordon! Each had such a different and distinctive mesmerizing musicality, sophisticated style, and classy character that it would be a unique experience to hear and see them together playing live. I'll just have to imagine it, and enjoy what is available. Thanks again. 🎶✨
The band does not care about (or not aware of) the 16-bit choruses starting on "Jack gave her 2 $..." and "She borrowed some money...." Neither does Mr Sonny Boy II... Great!
Not aware of, I guess. Unfortunately. They rune that masterpiece. Back in 1963 Sonny Boy was still in good shape. Imagine having Lockwood, Below and all the Chess gang to back him on that set!
Too bad nobody bothered to film something like that in the US between late '50s and mid '60s.
@@---hu6ek Sure.... Sonny Boy is the great and the most mysterious blues figure to me.
My Grandmother's favorite!!!
SBW is great, but how *old* is Jools Holland?!
The laid-back expressiveness of his voice. The easy warm phrasing without fanfare but so stuffed with feeling. The delivery just sucks me in. I'm moved!!
