I've seen this process firsthand and it was amazing to watch. The guys that did my first pool actually mixed two colors of pebbletec and it was perfect. I'm about to get my 2nd pool built and I'm getting aqua blue pebbletec. Can't wait to see this being done again!
I did marbelite and pebble pools for 8 years. If you want to finish 2-3 pools a day, just add a scoop of calcium chloride to every 8 bag mix and a scoop of easyspread to combat trowel burn.
Thank you - yeah some areas can be difficult. What area are you in? Maybe reach out to some cleaning companies as they might have some connections for referral
@@Sierrapoolco Hey man, its funny - looks like we are doing are doing similar stuff! Your videos look great; You need to post more! I Love the David O'Dell concrete video...I've been watching him for years! I lived in South OC for decades, but moved to San Diego in 1998. I did pools when I was a teenager, it was good money for a kid my age. I worked in TV and Movies for 25 years and then 10 years ago I came back to pools when the production industry dried up here in San Diego. I kick myself sometimes because I think I should have stuck with the pools when I was a kid. Working in production was fun, but ultimately I went nowhere because I hated working in LA. I have a very small business, and intend to keep it that way. I'm 52 and I'm not looking to knock myself out anymore. I Love working for myself, my clients give me that purpose in life I was looking for but never found in the Movie business. I used to think serving others was for the weak, I wanted others to serve me. I have found new life and purpose in serving others. Having recession proof income is nice as well. Rock on!
@@angrypoolman wow we have similar stories, I pursued a career in marketing/design and realized I wanted to get back into the blue collar life (grew up in the pool industry). Haven’t been happier, and I agree-it’s a blessing to serve others. So grateful for it. I’ll check out your page when I get home later today! We’ll have to connect some time
Did you add the color to the plaster or would it sell as is wondering if the color would last for 10 years or does it fade away.. one last question what about those colored marble small Glass beads would that be better than just regular dye? Thank you so much. Enjoyed your video.
Take up time is set by tempaturw and additives. Raw concrete vs raw plaster is actually about the same for normal applications but does depend on thickness poured/troweled on
Hello, excellent work that you do! My question is simple and it is if this treatment can help me to permanently seal a leak that I cannot find. I have already pulled and redone a wall, the staircase and I have even built a new pool inside the old one... but it continues to lose water. I have spent a lot of money on repairs but the problem has not been fixed. In case you were wondering, the loss is not in the pipes. That's why I ask if doing this finish would at least give me the solution of completely sealing the pool. greetings
Hello, unfortunately I don’t believe this would solve your problem, it sounds like it’s an issue with the pool shell (which would eventually lead to the plaster failing as well)
Essentially all tile & coping can be demoed and replaced, yes! Mini pebble (as shown in the video) is the least amount of maintenance in terms of it having a longer life span and holding up to acids washes better than traditional plaster 👍 Hope that helps!
Neat video thanks. Can you please explain why when I see anyone making some kind of pool, they start at the steps and go to the deep end? Wouldnt it be better to not block yourselves in and get stuck in the deep end then have to ruin what you just did to get out?
Thank you! Good question, the reason is that all the water used for exposing at the end would run down on the already finished deep end, so since water will follow that way down they finish it last working from top to bottom. I think I actually talk about this in our newest plaster video also :) go check it out!
@@torsten6777 wow.. definitely not a good idea if that's the case thank you! Would sealing it with wax or sealer resolve that? I still think it's a good idea since all the other reasons to keep a pool full are not an issue with this application
@torsten6777 over here in Australia we do exposed pebble porches and drives ways lower the cement content to 3 parts pebble to 1 part cement it should be good to go pebble needs to slow down thru curing and can be exposed to air out of the water
If you do another pool you can buy this tumbled recycled glass and add it in the mix as like a pebble tech look or you can use cut out to lay out on the wet plaster to add in designs like dolphins octopuses initials or ledge borders it’s a pretty cool effect and it’s relatively cheap it will also extend the life of the plaster if you add it into the mix I don’t remember the ratio but you can find it out there somewhere.
I have a 15 year old pebble tec type pool. I'm tired of the high maintance. Would it be a good idea to plaster something over it to make the pool wall and bottom feel smooth? Thanks.
Enjoyed your video and commentary. I am researching PebbleTec installations to arrive at an opinion of whether the delamination crack I have found following along the edge of 1" square step tiles (the safety tiles indicating a step edge) is something I could repair with an injection of structural epoxy. The PebbleTec has moved away from the tile along the face of the step. It appears there is space to inject the epoxy. I would then apply pressure to the PebbleTec to force a bond while it cures. Am I dreaming I could create a reasonable repair in this manner or do I need to call in the Pros to remove the PebbleTec and resurface? I am a very DIY guy with lots of tools and projects clipped to my belt! Thanks for any constructive opinions or advise. Cheers!
Thank you for taking the time to watch! Really appreciate it. In theory this idea may (or may not work), it's really hard to say. I will say however since the delaminating process has already started even with a bandaid fix the problem will continue. Only sure fire way to do it is to remove the pebble and replacing it, you can try a small area and patch it though it would likely be fairly noticable--otherwise just replace the entire surface. Hope that helps some!
@@Sierrapoolco Thanks for your quick reply. Further thinking has matched up with your comments: that the epoxy would probably work if it was able to be uniformly spread over the entire area of the delamination. Unfortunately, there is no way I will know that I have achieved that (odds seem low). If I don't achieve that I am thinking water will infiltrate and begin the delamination again. I have since found a company (Pool Patch) that sells kits that appear to be able to match my pebble mix and have videos that pretty much match my situation. I will likely be trying their product. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond to my question.

Would’ve been cool to see the finished product 😅
We have a video with it finished :)
We skim coat with un sanded thinset before plaster. Bond coat. We never pump it. Requires too much water and makes it less strong.
Good to know
What would be the cost of laying new plaster? I’m sure there’s a lot that goes into the pricing, but maybe like general price
Depends on your area
This is great have you heard of anyone doing a bathroom or shower pan with it? I'm going to try it!
Thank you! I haven't heard of that exactly--but epoxy pebble applications have a pretty similar look to Pebble pool finish, maybe look into that!
Just ensure it's always full of water as the plaster dries up and cracks if it's not under water.

New plasterer here, What’s ur opinion of rounded vs squared trowels for plastering?? Or do you use them for different things?
Different applications - round is common in pool work though
I have a 15 year old pebble tec type pool. I'm tired of the high maintance. Would it be a good idea to plaster something over it to make the pool wall and bottom feel smooth? Thanks.
The only recommended process is to demo the existing and replaster with a smoother finish
@@Sierrapoolco Thanks for the prompt reply. Could it be done with demolision? Just plastering over the existing pebble tec?
I have an old plaster pool and considering the pebble finish, your comment makes me want to rethink that and just go with plain plaster again.

Cant wait it takes up faster
Just had my pool re gunite a last year and now it is really rough is it the pool company problem to take care of
Depends on the finish you chose

The best surface for bonding is the pool’s shell-in this case shotcrete 👍
