    If a few brief minutes of Bahauddin aren’t enough…watch his 70-minute duet performance of Raag Vardhani with Pelva Naik, in pristine HD on the Darbar Player, along with dozens of other captivating concerts: www.darbarplayer.com/videos/ustad-bahauddin-dagar-pelva-naik-raag-vardhani
    We'd like to upload everything for free - but filming, editing, and hosting cost money, and we’re a small not-for-profit organisation. Signing up to the Darbar Player costs about the same as a couple of coffees a month ($5), which we hope is an excellent price for such a wealth of unique music.

    Ustad Bahauddin Dagar is a great Beenkar but the star of this video, I think, is Sukhad Munde. Great performance on the Pakhawaj.

    Heavenly Been player!
    Wonder what it must have been like for the young Ustad to know that unless he carried forward this timeless tradition of Been, it would be lost in the annals of history. And then to have put in such arduous riyaz and to now be carrying forward this daunting legacy so ably shows the stuff he is made of.
    The grandeur of ancient Indian musical tradition shimmers in every stroke he plays on his Been. My eternal gratitude and deep respect to him!

    What a wonderful pensive mellow of supplication.It uses komal ga; and the rest are shuddha swaras; uses no re and dha in the ascendence; and uses all seven notes in avarohana. Therefore, its mela-kartaa is gauree-manohari of the Karnataka tradition.

    such a pristinely beautiful prayer is heard in Ustad Bahuddin's rendering. And the rudra veena is a majestic instrument no doubt. Just that the pakhaway player, seems to be very intent in dominating the proceedings. A balanced level of playing would have been good. Going berserk on the percussion may be okay in a solo, but just tilts a performance like this out of balance. But the way Ustad Dagar just smiles and let the percussionist go just because he is itching to , demonstrates his {ustad dagar's} accomodative nature. and also his seniority.

      I thought they worked well together...yes Sukhad Munde may have been a bit persistent with the pakhawaj but it helped to build the climax.

      Dagar Sahab himself permitted Mundeji to go ahead and it is a older method where in Dhrupad all improvise together. They used to say 'Saath me chalo' meaning come forth and work with me. I think it was an authentic presentation.

    • @tovarischkarno4390
      @tovarischkarno4390 4 года назад

      Aakash Binu To avoid the weird angle at your shoulder on your fingering hand, I assume. It’s a pain on the ‘normal’ Veena, I assume it’s worse with the huge hours of the Rudra Veena

    • @हर्षवान्
      @हर्षवान् 4 года назад +3

      Dagar style Rudra veena is a lot bigger and heavier than veenas of other gharanas. It is not possible to hold it above the shoulder without being really uncomfortable. Plus this style is a unorthodox style.
