  • I'm so out of ideas people
They dangled this in our faces and then took it away
Hypothetical history of the Toronto Subway from 1980 to future proposals, under the management of the Toronto Transit Commission.

Note: this video is of an ALTERNATE history of the Toronto subway. It does not depict the real history of the system. I know this isn't the real map. Thanks.

I'd suggest including the Line 4 Western Extension. It would connect North York and Etobicoke without having to go down to Eglinton.

I know subway construction has grown way more expensive but even in light of that, our governments seem unwilling to try to find money saving ways to build them. Like when they were proposing a western extension of line 2 beyond Kipling, they did so under the premise it'd be underground rather than at grade

Great map of what could have been. If the governments of the 1970s, 1980s, and 90s stuck to the plan instead of constantly changing it we would have had a subway on Eglinton to the airport by now and a second line under Downtown. Alas bickering and political meddling resulted in the "network" we have now.

You forgot to add the west extension of the Sheppard Line from Sheppard-Yonge to Sheppard West/Downsview.

Interesting Sheppard subway doesn’t move west to Sheppard west/downsview nor Finch goes east to Finch both on Line 1

1:46 small mistake: It should say "Islington Station to Eglinton" rather than "Kennedy to Eglinton".

I was coming here to say this but I think it actually was supposed to be Kipling, not Islington.

Scarborough RT then connect that to the Relief Line by the Eastern Lakeside areas. I love your videos but I find it so frustrating that these aren't what's happening with these Subway lines.

Some of these routes are getting built (Eglinton line as a LRT from Renforth to Kennedy Station, Ontario line from Eglinton/Don Mills to Exhibition Place, Finch West LRT from Finch West Station to Humber College etc) and some of them got built in our timeline (SRT to Mccowan which closed in 2023, Bloor Danforth line, YUS line but to Vaughan etc)
I would have extended the Bloor Danforth line to Sherway Gardens (East Mall and Sherway would be the stations) and extended the Yonge University Spadina line to Vaughan (Downsview would have stayed as Downsview, the other stations would have been Sheppard West, Finch West, York University, Steeles West, Highway 407 and Vaughan Centre, the current name of the real Vaughan station is too long for me to attempt to pronounce) and would have extended the Bloor Danforth line (it is getting extended by 3 stations in real life) to Scarborough Centre with stations at Danforth at Eglinton/Danforth, Lawrence East at Mccowan and Lawrence and Scarborough Centre at Mccowan and Ellesmere)
The SRT would have been able to stay open longer (at least until the Bloor Danforth extension which is under construction in real life is finished and open) had they done a better job taking care of it
I wish the idiots at City Hall would have got along so we would have some of the routes built by now but despite that, I love your video

I wish the idiots at City Hall got along too. (looks at the SRT debate) Although, I still think your vision is too ambitious for Toronto. We don't do ambitious here.
      Thanks for the comment!

The most important one should be extending the youge line to Steeles

    • @joelsterling1445
      @joelsterling1445 5 месяцев назад +1

It is getting extended to Richmond Hill in real life with 5 stations

Maybe six stations, but yeah, it’s happening. Apparently in 2041. (thanks Doug!)

I would have sent the Relief Line to the Airport myself as a four-track with two express and two locals on the West side.

Line 4 should've been an LRT rather than a stubway. Scarborough Line 3 was also a crap ride...

Stubway! That’s a new one, and I love it. (I wonder what ridership would be if we built the first phase to Victoria Park like we were going to …)
