- Hi everyone, Amy Fig here! Thanks for stopping by! For my #100dayproject this year I chose 100 Small Pencil Portraits. It's a big project but I figured out a hack to help me out.
In this video I will share the hack that I use to create fast and accurate portraits on 3 x 5 note cards. I will go over where I get my photo references and how I get an accurate face outline as a base for the shading.
This is an excellent way to practice faces. You will find that by practicing this technique you're creating "muscle memory" for when you draw free hand.
This hack is also good for art journaling because you can create small faces with expression that fit perfectly in your journal layouts.
Here's my supply lis for this video:
Laptop Computer
3 x 5 Notecard
Painter's Tape
Medium Blending Stumps aka Tortillons ($1.49 at Hobby Lobby)
Mechanical pencil (Any type works- even from the Dollar Store)
Kneaded Eraser
White Gelly Roll 08 pen
You're going to love the results you get from this hack! Let me know how it goes for you.

@@kellycharlton2332 You’re welcome Kelly!
Thank you Amy. I did try this and I was amazed at the result. I also found out what the blending tool was and how to use it thanks to you.
My dad had given it to me a long time ago, to encourage me to start drawing, which I did not! Thanks again for the great tips. Cheers.
You’re welcome Bernice! I’m so happy you gained something from this video! 🥰💞
Thank you! Off to try this technique.
You made a 30 minute long video to tell people to trace an image's details? Instead you could've told people to actually draw and only trace proportion measurements then transfer it. This isn't beginner friendly, this is beginner frauding. I could do 100 of these and then when I pull up a reference and decide NOT to trace from it, I'll still be lost and unable to draw.
You could at least put some kind of disclaimer in this video that it is not an efficient technique for growing your understanding of how to draw portraits. You don't train yourself on anything important while doing this, it's just for immediate finished results.
@@YThates Thanks for your input but you are incorrect. The act of tracing anything is actually practice on proportions and we build skill through practice. Also, you’re not the boss of me and I can do whatever I want. 😂😂😂
