The World Meteorological Association names the Atlantic storms.
Instead of the Florida Lottery we should just give payouts to people who bet on what names become hurricanes 🌀 at least then we would have something to look forward to when our roof blows off and our house floats away

The reason why the names are so unusual is because when a name is assigned to a particularly destructive hurricane, the World Meteorological Association retires it. For example, when Hurricane Ian was a category 5 in 2022 and led to destruction, they “retired” the name and will no longer use it in the repeating roster. After more than seventy years, the options for each letter of the alphabet gets slimmer and slimmer (and they don’t even attempt the letter Q). So, now we are stuck with uncommon names.
