    I see a major mistake here.Ships of those days were not steered by a steering wheel but with a whipstaff.This whipstaff was a post positioned below decks and was attached to a tiller, which is a beam that ran below decks and was attached to the rudder on the stern of the vessel.Steering wheels came into use during the first quarter of the seventeen hundreds.

      Was 3 knots with only the forward mast sails up, and 4 with the additional midmast sail up.
