Every time I watch a video like this, I regret having ever created my social media accounts. The internet memory is scary, and the data brokers scarier. It astounds me that private information, including contact details and residential addresses of the common public in the US is so easily available to absolutely anyone and everyone! No wonder stalking and killings are getting easier by the day! Very informative video and nicely presented, deserves way more than just the current 15k subscribers. Subscribed! I was on Facebook when it was cool over a decade ago. I never used a lot of personal information and did not post pictures or mention my children. This Era was just the start of big data. I'm so glad that I jumped off social media. I refuse to be in anyone's photos bc once I do, that gets posted on the internet. When I do take photos, I'm never in them. I take photos of other things like nature, etc. The internet is forever.
This kid is great!! I'm too old to have that much of a footprint but I am sure that all my snarky comments and channels and stories I love can easily paint a picture of me. Keep up the great work and I too believe this will become a very popular channel.
They don't remove anything. I deleted my Facebook years ago and they told me the same thing, 30 days and 90 days. I logged back into it like 8 years later and all my stuff was still there.

I used a Twitter extension to comb through some of my old Twitter activity from when I was 13, and it felt magical. It manually went through and deleted every like, comment, Tweet, and retweet. It did it in such a way that it emulated a person doing it, making it faster to remove that data from the network than a deletion request.

For me privacy and confidentaility are more important than free speech unless the information being shared is important for the general public or related to a crime. In those cases publishing factual information would supercede privacy. But the fact that people can just buy your information without your knowledge or consent is super disturbing. There needs to be way more transparency and regulation around collecting and monetizing people's data
Not all crimes need to be broadcast on the internet especially if it happened a long time ago and is not relevant and especially if the case was dismissed and the criminal record expunged. The media should not have power to overrule judges and cancel people to start a slander campaign against them. People make mistakes and we need to forgive and allow growth.
I don't understand though why your search history and cookies and all that data which people want to remove because they're being sold, that's it. If you're an average person with an average life, what is it you're afraid of people finding out about you? Is your data even worth their profit or personal gain? Even the location bit, it's only approximate.

Unless you're "most wanted" and involved in something serious, then it is still worth deleting all your social media accounts. It's time consuming and expensive for law enforcement to do deep online searches for people and in many cases I've seen police just search for someone as any of us would. If you're not that big of a criminal or simply want to disappear, then remember how many millions of others will have the attention of authoritarians-you'll soon be forgotten.
That's why you shouldn't do bad things on the internet. Infact you should also avoid doing bad things in your computer and smartphone. Because they collect your data.

The thing everyone should be aware of is that the cloud is just someone else's computer, and any data that has once been stored, even if deleted, is recoverable. Facebook, also has profiles for people that are not members. They create the shadow profile using other people's profile data, and probably from other networks they have access to.
The access to Data Brokers should be heavily restricted. While I don't want the government to track my every move, having a private entity do it to share with other people is a lot scarier. At best, people should be made to file legal documents to be allowed to access someone else's data. I don't want a disgruntled acquaintance to stalk me and my family.
It doesn't even need to be somebody with a grudge. An idiot who thinks it'd be funny if a livestream got interrupted by a random SWAT raid could get somebody killed just as easily with that kind of data. Heck, a sufficiently deluded stranger could do the same or worse. Just look at the Kyoto Animation attack!
