Like... seriously???? my address is block 13 lot 13.... and my birthday is 4/13/1993... my younger cousin is 4/4/04.... and her brother is 7/7/07... no kidding!!!!!! i wish this is only applicable to chinese...
+Ranjiccu Renjicko 13 is ok to chinese. XD sometimes you will see the chinese say 1314 to their spouse. 1314 sounds like 一生一世. it means i will accompany with you for your whole life.
I learned that the double 喜 is like double happiness 囍, which is ironically a brand of cigarettes in mainland China. And I've been in buildings with no 4th floor or 14th floor, sometimes replaced with 3A or 13A, respectively. Or it goes, 1,2,3,5...12,13,15...etc.
I'm Chinese (from Malaysia) and was born on the 4th July 1994. I knew that 4 is the most unlucky number. But to find out that 7 might also become an unlucky number. I think I'm going to cry T.T.
You guys are great please keep up the great videos. I'm a CBC (Canadian Born Chinese) and my son was born at 11:28pm on August (8th month) 28th! You are so right about the lucky and unlucky numbers. I have never seen a table 4 or 14 at a Chinese banquet. Please do some videos for me in the near future? Topics: 1) short history of all the emperors in China, 2) dispel the myth that the Chinese are the "model minority" or "silent minority" and stereotypes aren't true (ie asian women love sex like in the porn movies), 3) why we tap our fingers on the table when others pour or tea and other eat/drinking etiquette, 4) your recommendation on good books and movies that are Chinese (with eng subtitles), 5) strange chinese medicines/herbs that still work today. I'm a big fan and would love to help you guys in any way, hit me up. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! Sarah
What's funny is that this is almost like we have our own secret language and you can always tell who's Chinese by the numbers on their license plates or phone numbers...ect. I mean when you see 888 anywhere, you know 99.9% of the time it's a Chinese person. It's our secret code :-)
This video reminded me of an old friend. She was working in a motorbike store where they had a confusing incident with a Chinese customer. He was trying to ask for the lisence plates to have the 666 number on and would shout SIX SIX SIX in the middle of the store. Everybody freaked out but eventually another Chinese person, speaking fluently Greek helped to resolve this little misunderstanding.
I like Chinese very much. But when I saw this video, I cried a lot because my birthday was on January 4, 2004. I am from India. I like everything about China. If I go to China, people there will think I'm bad. They treat me badly. Please tell me.please please
i think number zero is lucky, because it can also be spoken as (from 灵验, which means effective, accurate, it's working). so maybe things will work for you... and also it's kind of round/not disconnected, which is also good, kind of like a circle...
Off the Great Wall Hey guys i really watching your show I like the fact that it's very educational and funny at the same time one of the main things that inspire me is learning about different countries and different cultures I think you guys really do a great job keep it up !
777 is my numbers and have had much luck with them...seven octaves seven colours of the rainbow..seven is a lucky number in the west for sure ..ive met a lot of westerners who favor seven
Lucky Numbers: 2: This number is lucky because of the pronunciation that "good things come in pairs" in Mandarin. 3: This number is lucky because it represents the 3 stages in life - child, adult, and elderly, or birth marriage, and death. This word also sounds similar to the word "birth" in Mandarin. 6: The number has a similar pronunciation to "flow" or "smooth" in Mandarin which is good for business 0: This number is a lucky number because it is an even number and usually associates with money 8: This word's pronunciation sounds similar to "become wealthy" in Mandarin 9: This word's pronunciation sounds similar to "longevity" in Mandarin Unlucky Numbers: 4: This is the most unlucky number. This number has a similar pronunciation to "death" in Mandarin 5: This number is unlucky because it has the same pronunciation as "nothing" in Mandarin 7: This number is unlucky because it also has the definition of anger 13: This number is unlucky because 1+3=4, and 4 has a similar pronunciation to"death" in Mandarin 14: This number is unlucky because has a similar pronunciation to "You must die," "You want to die," or "You have to die"
saikai no, I mean Cantonese - I remember 689 since it's how Hongkongers call CY Leung. I also found this "In Cantonese, Tsat (Chinese: 𨳍; Jyutping: cat6), sometimes idiomatically written as 柒, is a vulgar word for an erect penis. Its American English equivalent is "boner". Ban6 cat6 (笨柒) (stupid di..) is a more common phrase among others. However, it is usually used as a vulgar adjective especially among the youth. It means "ugly" or "shameful". cat6 tau4 (柒頭) can be loosely translated as "d...head". A common euphemism is 七 cat1 (seven), which only differs in the tone. Other euphemisms include 刷 caat3 (to brush) and (...)' :)
My students in Taiwan always say 170....1 (upright and standing) 7 (hunched over) 0 (in the ground)...anyway it makes more sense when you do the numbers with your hand...that talks about death....
Buying specific numbers in China is a surprisingly lucrative practice, I've found. One friend told me that some people will pay 10,000RMB for a specific license plate!
I was told the number '13' is actually considered lucky, because 福 is written with 13 strokes. But I also agree with y'all's assessment that the summation of 1 and 3 gives DEATH :)
My Chinese teacher showed this in class, and she freaked out when I told her about my birthday. I was born on March 28th at 8:08, I weighed 8.8 pounds, and they had to do some tests on me to make sure my breathing was ok. My results for that test came back as 8888. Yay!
I kind of think that 5, 7, and 9 are lucky numbers for the Chinese, cause in ancient China the emperor was often referred to as "九五之尊", which kind of means "the royal nine five" or something like that. And also if you speak ancient Chinese or Cantonese or Hokkien, you would know that the pronunciations for "five" and "nothing" are actually different. "Five" is "ngo, ng, or go", while "nothing" is "mo" or "bo".
if a gothic chinese couple want to get marry they should choose number 4 for their date of wedding. Eg: 04.4.2014 at 4:44:44 PM and then gave birth to 4 children. lol
Yeah, I was just thinking that perhaps a Chinese goth would like a phone number with lots of 4s in it. I used to know Chinese emos and skaters, so I'm sure there are Chinese goths out there.
I'm only half Chinese, but I guess that counts. ;) And no, I won't have 4 children just for the 'spook factor'. Btw, the Goth subculture is basically unknown in China and Taiwan, however it's slowly developing in Shanghai (from what I've heard).
i was about to say how weird it is that 4 and death sound basically the same than i remembered english has "there, their, and they're" funny how all languages have they're own little quirks
Lucky numbers in China are complicated. If you study "I Ching", you will find that odd numbers are lucky, while even numbers are unlucky. A hundred days at the start of Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BCE) means 49 days in today's decimal system.
Chinese principle for lucky and unlucky are very simple, odd is lucky, even is unlucky. However, the numeric system was complicated, because most of these concepts of number luck are formed when multiple numeric systems were used at the same time, as well as the fact that numeric element of zero was absent.
I miss when Carmen says "don't forget to click the subscriiibe bottooon" and "thanks for watching, see you later" :'( But I have to say that I love Mia too :D
I like this. I've spent over hour an a half just going through all these videos. Some are funny and some are very interesting. For me at least since I love the Asian culture. Nice to learn few other things. ^.^ These vids deserve more views. My personal opinion that is.
i can't remember if this is correct but i remember one of my Chinese teachers explained the correlation of 0 and money as "lîng" could be a nother word for coin??
8 is my lucky number as well since I was born in August. Besides it's the month named after the first Roman Emperor so it's a pretty good month to have been born in. Oh, and I was born at year 88.
I can see how zeros would be lucky for money. The more zeros there are in a total, the bigger the sum: three zeros for thousands, six zeros for millions, etc.
Apparently phone numbers with lucky numbers in them are of higher priority and people make advantage with them, like charging them for more and stuff. Very cultural.
4 is also unlucky in korea and you would be considered to become a restless ghost if you died during anytime with a number 4. Also just adding in that my personal lucky number is 3.
Question if I were to meet someone from China they asked me what my birthday is and I tell them 777 what's my birthday is 777 would that what I be considered a bad person?
You know, this is actually pretty true. We're a superstitious lot. In fact, in my country there are literally unit numbers that go like "7,9, 11, 11A, 15" and so on. Just to avoid 13. And the same goes for the number 4 as well. I don't think I've ever seen a block "444" here in Singapore before.
My nickname 4tje is Dutch for 'little 4' (because the pronunciation of 4 in Dutch is similar to the first syllable of my name). However, my favorite number has always been 8, since it's a number that comes back in the family birthdays. So I guess.. 4 and 8.. means I'm just a simple mortal? ;P
nah just the one on the that I mentioned, and for the record I wasn't trying to be disrespectful in any way... I love what you guys do. just that one thing... I do statue reviews if youd like to sub me... Im a huge comic book fan. your channel and the others associated with you guys CHINA UNCENSORED for example are well done .so bravo . Im not sure if this is a woman or man sending this so im not sure which gender to compliment so I thank you fair maiden for ladies and good show fair knight for a man.
The cellphone number I got here in HK has two times the combination of '54', which I think was made purposefully to mean '無死', which is something like to NOT die I think?? (So, in this case the number 5 is quite useful!) Of course, if one wants a cellphone number with many 8's here in HK, one has to pay for it ;)
I've seen your youtube comment about DE0 nano. please let me know if you have found a way to connect it with your computer cause i need it in my project. thanks in advance
8 has always been my luck number I was born at 2:33PM. 2+3+3=8 I was born on July 1. 7+1=8 And strangely when ever I do something at 8:00, it always goes well. When ever the date is 8 something, the day is a good one.

about 7 as far as I remember in Cantonese it sounds like di.. male intimate organ :) and in Internet slang 689 means 'no di... male intimate organ' :)
you mean mandarin =P

6 is my favorite number. My birthday is June and 6 shape looks smooth and even number.
108 is a fab number as well because in cantonese it sounds akin to certain wealth: 一 定 發
My Chinese teacher showed this in class, and she freaked out when I told her about my birthday. I was born on March 28th at 8:08, I weighed 8.8 pounds, and they had to do some tests on me to make sure my breathing was ok. My results for that test came back as 8888. Yay!
Emma Jauernig jeez you were a fat baby
A lot of buildings don't have any floors contain the number 4, and in shanghai there is no 13&14th floor. Lol
COOL! but 3 and 7 and 4 and 5 are still my lucky numbers, anyway
I kind of think that 5, 7, and 9 are lucky numbers for the Chinese, cause in ancient China the emperor was often referred to as "九五之尊", which kind of means "the royal nine five" or something like that. My dad's car plate number is 888, we had to change it several times until they got the number. How lucky we are! 😂 😉
my doctor, who's cantonese, used to have an office number that was 444 xD seems like a pretty bad luck number for a doctor lol
Maybe 0 corresponds to wealth in that as you have more money there are more zeroes in the amount like 100,000 or 10,000,000???
yup :-)
current staying in a HK hotel.. no 4th floor,, no room no. 4.. that explains it.

She's pretty too!
Greetings from the Netherlands.
i was about to say how weird it is that 4 and death sound basically the same than i remembered english has "there, their, and they're" funny how all languages have they're own little

Lucky numbers in China are complicated. If you study "I Ching", you will find that odd numbers are lucky, while even numbers are unlucky. However, the number system in early China was not based on decimal system, but rather on septenary numeral system, which means from 0 to 6 (or 1 to 7). A hundred days at the start of Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BCE) means 49 days in today's decimal system.

I guess the zero thing comes from the amount of zeros in the number.
The more zeros in your income, the better. 100,000, for example
i can't remember if this is correct but i remember one of my Chinese teachers explained the correlation of 0 and money as "lîng" could be a nother word for coin??
8 is my lucky number as well since I was born in August. Besides it's the month named after the first Roman Emperor so it's a pretty good month to have been born in.

No. :(

One of the luckiest Chinese numbers is 108 for the 108 heroes and heroines of Liang Shan. (From Shui Hu Zhuan, Water Margin)
I was born in the "death" month :C
Same and didn’t you mean April ?

4 is also unlucky in korea and you would be considered to become a restless ghost if you died during anytime with a number 4. Also just adding in that my personal lucky number is 3.
Why am I the only one thinking of Homestuck watching this? It's taking over my mind! T.T
Wait so if 4 is unlucky and 13 is unlucky, what about 22 and 31 (since they both add up to 4 also), are they unlucky as well?
Question if I were to meet someone from China they asked me what my birthday is and I tell them 777 what's my birthday is 777 would that what I be considered a bad person?

ar73100 don't worry we won't :D

Yes, 54 is great. Never die.

Wait. Isn't "Longevity" 寿 (Shou)? I guess by the "Longevity" sounding similar to 九 would be 久 (Long period of time)
Shou only implies to people, Emperors love Jiu as it can imply that their reign or their kingdom will last a long time
When I was in Shanghai I choose a phone number with a lot of 4 only because it was cheaper lol

0:13 haha i thought dan was going to say that it's ten, like in chinese hand gestures :P
2 things really scared me a lot
You are lucky to have a few strange things. In Europe they have a few things that are strange too.
you know funny no. combination in Chinese like "954 = kaw Wu SI = Until I Die "
Its so funny that all my favourite numbers are the lucky numbers and the numbers I hate the most are the unlucky one
What the heck?! I was born on 4.4.-88 so it's like the worst and the best of luck!
I miss the part saying"please Subscribe,like,comment and google+ us"
"Thanks you watching see you later"
8 has always been my luck number
I was born at 2:33PM. 2+3+3=8
I was born on July 1. 7+1=8
And strangely when ever I do something at 8:00, it always goes well.
When ever the date is 8 something, the day is a good one.
very interesting :)
My birthday is on the 28/06!!
