I've never met Kelly or spoken directly... She does seem "a bit driven".. (My semi-sarcasm hopefully transcends my keystrokes = "a bit"). Definitely PROUD of her as well.. I just discovered your channel and I’m enjoying your hikes. I have lived in Montana my whole life and have hiked much of the CDT. I’m excited that you are going to do it this summer. It’s starting to get hot and dry here in Western MT. You might want to get started if you want to avoid fire season in the West. We had a dry winter and the snow is going fast. Good luck!

Woo Hoo. I am so happy to hear that. My favorite spot in the world is the Wind River Range in Wyoming. I hope you can get off the CDT and do some of the other trails in that incredible mountain range. If you get a chance go see the cirque of the towers in the southern winds. ❤

The best part of the trail is by far from Northern Colorado to Southern Colorado. What is your favorite shake out trail in Arkansas? My personal fav's is the upper Buffalo and Eagle Rock.
YES!! THIS TRAIL!!! CDT (and the shorter CT). I've actually hiked sections of all three 'majors'. I know the sections between Durango and Leadville pretty well. Fell in love with Twin Lakes both before and after summiting my first 14'r = Mt. Elbert.. This area is beautiful both on-road (Million Dollar Highway, I-70 canyons between Denver and Moab, and on and on), Off-roading (4x4) ALL around Telluride (and so many other places in Colorado). The one thing I honestly love most about the CDT.. Serenity.. And, when at night or just chilling out... Quiescence.. If one cares for the trail action like the AT, and parts of the PCT, ala.. .Need someone to chat with to survive every day.. The CDT is NOT for anyone.. I never came across a trail angel once.. I'm sure there are some, but not like the AT.. ANYWAY.. I could "dear diary" about this all day long.. Your adventures in Florida made me smile.. I literally lived there (all around) after I found a late love in scuba diving.. I went full tilt.. Full cave.. Tech.. Mixed gas.. All that fun stuff.. Watching your videos actually was giving me "flash backs" of the beautiful and exceptionally wide world of things in Florida.. I THINK you might have liked to at least dive in a cavern in some of those rivers.. ;).. Yeah yeah.. /dear diary..
I wouldn't worry too much about the bears in Glacier and Yellowstone. I used to work and hike solo in Glacier, and the main thing is just to make a bit of noise when you are walking around blind corners in the trail. I would just clap my hands. The only time I was nervous is if I was walking up to a waterfall or somewhere that had a lot of noise so they couldn't hear me.
Congratulations Kelly on your choice of the CDT. I would love to hike it, but I can no longer hike due to the Lyme Disease. I know that you will have a blast and that it will just blow you away! Good luck with your hike ! I just got back from Arkansas spreading my parent's ashes in Lincoln, the town where my mom was born and where they met. I hadn't been to Ark in many years so it was nice to go back and see my cousins and the beauty of NW Ark.

Wow! Hey, was part of a 12 person trail maintenance team and I helped construct a small 3 mile segment of the CDT going through the Gila Wilderness Area of New Mexico. It's a beautiful part of the country. I am proud that I helped carve a portion of the trail that you will actually walk on. Thanks for the wonderful and entertaining videos.
FYI there were several water resources in New Mexico that had bees flying around them. The most memorable was the first one out of Lordsburg had thousands of bees all over the cattle trough.

Two years ago I picked up a hitch hiker from Germany who was doing the CDT at the top of Lost Trail Pass (ID/MT border) south of Darby MT. She was a NOBO and on pace to finish the CDT in 100 days. I was impressed! She had hiked the PCT the year before and was planning on doing the AT last year. If I can be of any help (resupply /lodging/transportation/local info) to you and your hiking partners, please contact me. I live 45 north of the CDT Lost trail pass (ID/MT border) on Hwy 93.
Yay, to paying off your student loans. Looking forward to following along on your CDT adventure. I'm currently section hiking the PCT and prepping for a JMT hike. I may still be on the PCT when you decide to try it again. ;p Anyway, safe travels and happy trails! :)
In 2009 in July I was exploring parts of Colorado, a few 4x4 trails and some of the NP's I had not seen before. Anyway I had driven up the 4x4 trail on Mt Princeton to where it dead ends and then came back down and there was a lady with a backpack and her dog also with a little backpack walking along and she was trying to figure out by her info where the next part of the trail started up as she was faced with a ways of walking down the side of a county highway. She asked if I would mind taking her over to the where the trail started up again and said sure so her dog hops in the rear seat and sitting there like a gentleman and she gets into the front seat and off we go and after some confusion on her map vs reality she figured out where the next part of the trail was and off she went to set up camp for the night. She was a school teacher from an eastern state and I think in her early 40's and using her summer break to do hikes like that. I think she had gotten a ride previously into Buena Vista for supplies as I can well imagine its hard to get restocked as its not as if there is a town beside the trail in sections like that anyway. I got the impression with the bit we talked that she was certainly the loner type of personality and just her and her dog, she certainly did not have your personality Kelly. So, many months from now be sure to title a video Mt Princeton or "The Collegiate Peaks", or even Buena Vista, that will give me a heads up to watch at least that part as you will have a pile of videos from the CDT !

I also help out CDT hikers going through NM. Especially getting back from the southern terminus to civilization (a high clearance 4x4 is mandatory). If you need anything as you get into NM, let me know! Glad to help out.
I live in Montana. Make sure you have bear spray. There is still a lot of snow in the mountains. We are having a winter storm in the mountains right now 5-8-24.

So excited you are doing the CDT in my neck of the woods! You were the first Appalachian trail hiker I started watching and inspired me to get out hiking more. It would be cool to try and do some trail magic for you when you get to southern Wyoming (Encampment/Riverside area).
Wait until you see Glacier and Yellowstone! And the Bob and the Tetons, for that matter. I’ve done almost every bucket list Park… and Glacier in particular is otherworldly. Good choice of trail. What a cool adventure that's going to be. What are you going to use for the internet while on this hike? Well you have to downsize your camera equipment? Me and my wife do some hiking, but were more into long distance bicycle touring, we have cycled from Florida to California 3 times following the Southern Tier route. In October we are riding the Natchez Trail. It's 444 miles long and stretches from Natchez, Mississippi north to Nashville, Tenn..........
very excited for this one. Been to Yellowstone twice, the second time spent a week camping. It is epic. But I was concerned for bears. My brother worked there and advised against any solo tent camping, so good you have company. But I know you have common sense.
Sounds like it should be an awesome one Kelly. You are really looking healthy and vibrant. The CDT, should be a great variation of terrain. Colorado is especially beautiful, my grandad helped create the Wilderness areas in the U.S. Outdoor recreation really does determine you're quality of life.
Working TravCorp was a smart decision. You made a lot more money and had great job flexibility. The CDT will be a great hike. I'm traveling that way to do some short hikes at lower altitude .
I hope you don’t have to slop through mud like the Florida trail or hike a lot of dangerous roads. Look forward to seeing this trail adventure through your eyes like all the others. Its the only way I’ll ever get to experience it thank you

Not going to lie. I'm pretty jealous! Also I'm sure you know this, but keep in mind a good chunk of that trail is in Wolf and Grizzly territory. Plan accordingly.
Really enjoy your upbeat yet laid back demeanor which transitions to helping keep me motivated between backpacking/camping trips! I look forward to more of your content from this ol’ boy from the sip. I know you know this but please be wary of suspicious characters and also watch for the grizzlies. I’ve only hiked here in the southeast as I think you mostly have. I’ve heard crazy stories of run ins with dangerous situations out west. Look forward to future content and maybe someday I’ll hit the CDT albeit only the northern section!

I would say Glacier is the best Nat. Park for backpackers and the most scenic and the Chinese Wall in the Bob is quite impressive. Good luck and enjoy!

Stay at the hostel at De Norte, CO. It is on the Divide. I stayed there once after I could not get a room in Pagoso Springs. They treated me well.

I live in Montana. Make sure you have bear spray. There is still a lot of snow in the mountains. We are having a winter storm in the mountains right now 5-8-24.

Cograts, the CDT has always been on my bucket list. Being 72, I will have to hike it viscerally through you.
Wait until you see Glacier and Yellowstone! And the Bob and the Tetons, for that matter. I’ve done almost every bucket list Park… and Glacier in particular is otherworldly. Good choice of trail.
Btw… been watching your videos on and off for a few years. This is probably the healthiest you’ve looked and seemed. Def a plus for that trail. Have a blast

What a cool adventure that's going to be. What are you going to use for the internet while on this hike? Well you have to downsize your camera equipment? Me and my wife do some hiking, but were more into long distance bicycle touring, we have cycled from Florida to California 3 times following the Southern Tier route. In October we are riding the Natchez Trail. It's 444 miles long and stretches from Natchez, Mississippi north to Nashville, Tenn..........
very excited for this one. Been to Yellowstone twice, the second time spent a week camping. It is epic. But I was concerned for bears. My brother worked there and advised against any solo tent camping, so good you have company. But I know you have common sense.
Sounds like it should be an awesome one Kelly. You are really looking healthy and vibrant. The CDT, should be a great variation of terrain. Colorado is especially beautiful, my grandad helped create the Wilderness areas in the U.S. Outdoor recreation really does determine you're quality of life.
Working TravCorp was a smart decision. You made a lot more money and had great job flexibility. The CDT will be a great hike. I'm traveling that way to do some short hikes at lower altitude .
I hope you don’t have to slop through mud like the Florida trail or hike a lot of dangerous roads. Look forward to seeing this trail adventure through your eyes like all the others. Its the only way I’ll ever get to experience it thank you
Kelly, sounds great. That is such a great trail and love hikers hiking the CDT. I guess it is because I lived both in Colorado and New Mexico . Happy trails.
Not going to lie. I'm pretty jealous! Also I'm sure you know this, but keep in mind a good chunk of that trail is in Wolf and Grizzly territory. Plan accordingly.
Really enjoy your upbeat yet laid back demeanor which transitions to helping keep me motivated between backpacking/camping trips! I look forward to more of your content from this ol’ boy from the sip. I know you know this but please be wary of suspicious characters and also watch for the grizzlies. I’ve only hiked here in the southeast as I think you mostly have. I’ve heard crazy stories of run ins with dangerous situations out west. Look forward to future content and maybe someday I’ll hit the CDT albeit only the northern section!

I thru hiked the CDT on 2022 NOBO. I definitely want to do the trail SOBO to see things differently. Im flying out to do the AT tomorrow. Im shooting for the triple crown 👑

I would say Glacier is the best Nat. Park for backpackers and the most scenic and the Chinese Wall in the Bob is quite impressive. Good luck and enjoy!
