I agree, but this is more excellence on a technical level. The real feeling of lonelyness and enchantment can only be evoked by listening to the original singer: Yanick Etienne, as can be seen and heard here: ruclips.net/video/_ovwk77JRww/видео.html

Andy Greene in Rolling Stone, published yesterday wrote, "Background singer Tawatha Agee, who toured with the group in the early Eighties, does an amazing job on this one. The background musicians for the upcoming tour haven’t been announced, but Agee was a part of Ferry’s most recent solo tour and let’s hope she’s back for this next Roxy run."
I fell for her when they were at the Hollywood Bowl, 1983.

@@clarkdhruvaeforden In the Frejus concert from 1982, which was recorded and released as a movie of sorts, the backup singers were Fonzi and Tawatha (who were both at R&R HOF induction) plus Michelle Cobbs, who sang on Avalon and toured extensively with Ferry in the early and late 80s. Tawatha's voice is still as amazing as it was in the 80s. Michelle essentially left the business and became a well-regarded addiction counselor in the NY area. Fascinating article on her in Rolling Stone. She and Fonzi were pals with Luther Vandross when she graduated from a NY arts high school, and worked extensively with Chic. She also sang with Diana Ross, the Police, Gang of Four, Duran Duran; a really-varied career.

Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay are musical giants of my youth. If I had to chose only one of their albums, it would be For Your Pleasure.

I am a self thought blues guitar player struggling to learn how to master ? The instrument ?SOMEWHAT with some what of a bit of results .AND WHEN I LISTEN TO THIS MASTERPIECE it makes me realize how little I know, and how humbling this melody makes me aware of how many more miles I need to ''travel '' to accomplish my goal ! I KNOW THE GUITAR IS NOT THE''LEAD INSTRUMENT '' on display here but the overall arrangement is overwhelming .To me I THINK THIS IS AS CLOSE TO A MUSICAL PERFECTION ONE CAN ATTAIN ! This tune reaches into my heart ! simply INCREDIBLE BEAUTIFUL .

Grew up on the beach, the surfing life and all the shit that comes with that including every night on the beach during the summer. At some point there would be a bon fire into the evening with the green bud burning along with the beers flowing, and all the loud mouth bullshit that goes along. However when Bryan Ferry Avalon would come over the boom box silence would take over. Everyone would just sit and drool and stare into what was left of the sunset.............Total magic to end the day, what a beautiful song that melts the hardest of souls............No one yelled out who put on this shit or change that garbage. You just sunk into the sand and floated away with the master of cool.
