Would you happen to know if this can be used as a midi controller for iPad/MPC Live? Thinking about grabbing one for the portability now that they put more up!
It can and I have actually tried both of those options. I was using it with Cubasis just recently and the MPC ON DAY 1. This is probably one of my favorite synths - not kidding. That looper and all the capabilities this little beauty has are just awesome. As far as the portable factor / there is no official case for it (yet) but I use one designed for the MPK MINI Pro. Works well and has extra room for cables. My one complaint it I wish for real keys 🎹 BUT these buttons are way more durable than any key bed would’ve been and on these units they still managed to make them velocity sensitive. Pretty sure you’ll lo d this synth 👍
@@Cap10NRGMusic Thanks so much for the thorough response! Very interested in adding this to my setup for the FM and the unique digital sounds it would bring for recording. But having the capability to control iPad/MPC synths is great and would make it the ultimate portable companion for travels! Definitely prefer mini keys but the fact that this would fit in a regular sized backpack/built in speakers is a decent trade-off. They look decently playable in demos I’ve seen. Thanks again for the info!
I haven’t tried it, but I would expect kind of that. It wouldn’t work. I don’t think the ELC one play has a mini interface in that way. It needs to have a USB controller type mid phase to work few devices have that unfortunately I can try and see what happens if you’d like .
@@Cap10NRGMusic it says it has midi host, so I was hoping it would record external synths via usb midi. It easily recorded the aux in from the jt4000 in the mixer.
Can you use it as a midi host and record other synths on it? Would you use the looper or the sequencer? I preordered mine in September and I’m still waiting :(
@@teamphil I hear you man it took forever. I ordered mine in June of last year… So it’s been a while anyway the yes it can record other instruments and I believe it can be used as midi host. I want to try that feature out with my GT 4000 that’s a video that’s coming up probably this next couple days maybe this weekend possibly the Fourth of July. Very excited to give that thing a world that way because if you can do that with it, and I know you can run the audio into the auxiliary and record that I’ve already tried that that will be amazing as a sound card or audio device for your PC or Mac and the speakers on it are really good like I was like wow my sound really good today lol. They weren’t the monitors they were the speakers coming out of the one which I was like that’s crazy that they sounded good when I say my monitors I’m not talking about good monitors is my good monitor is a KK‘s. These ones are a pair that I bought when I was moving between houses and I bought $100 pair ofinexpensive music monitors from guitar center to have something that worked but still they sounded very good comparing the two.
OK, just so you know part of the verdict here… The USB port on the ELZ_1 play does not provide enough power to drive and power at the same time the JT 4000, that said it doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. I just have to power it separately and get only data from the ELZ - I’m gonna try it that way and see what happens. Either way I will still have a way to record other synthesizes on here, though the ELZ MAY OR MAY NOT WORK WITH ITS USB CONNECTOR TO POWER AND PLAY, USB CONTROLLED MIDI DEVICES (like the Jt4000 which has no midi port, just USB) it does still have MIDI port on it so it still can control of the synthesizers from it and record their audio. I was using it with my SeqTrak to build up some loops - which I then sampled back to the SEQTRAK (these small devices together are insane) and it worked pretty damn well.
@@Cap10NRGMusic intersting. I wonder if you get a splitter for the jt4000 like you would with an iPad, so you can power it and use usb for midi. Good to know the elz_1 can sequence or record the jt4000.
Yeah I gotta say it’s. Pretty fun to mess with. I have toyed with the idea of buying a “physical loop station” device after playing with loopy on iPad, but they just seemed like just an accessary, something that would be an after thought and require other gear. By building it into a synth quells all the reasons I had NOT to buy a looper and made it one piece of gear that I could use on its own or with other gear if I want to. This thing gets a 9 out of 10 from me!!
On more thing that most people do not need. I swear the whole music gadget/VST industry is the modern day equivalent to the pan and sluice manufacturers during the various gold rushes.
I can see why you might not need it, but I can also see why you might… It’s pretty cool in the sense that it’s not limited to a number of instruments as most devices are because what it does is it records actual audio as you play. It needs a few things I think, but if you’re looking for a Looper, and a synthesizer… This is a great solution. I think it’s better than the OP1 and probably sonic wears easiest to use device yet. I personally figured out probably 90% of it without the manual.
It’s a nice little device for me to keep in my work office. I have an OP1 too but didn’t want to leave it in my office every day. This works for that and for traveling too. At home I’ve got some serious equipment but this is just nice when an idea strikes or just to take a break and jam.
It's more in the vein of the Arturia Micro/Mini Freaks than the TE OP1. Looking forward to you doing more Elz-1 Play vids/tutorials.
this is getting a retail release now, hope it can steal some op1 market share
