For me, Shadow's character is by far the most important thing for them to get right in this movie; the plot can be whatever so long as Shadow is in-character. And from everything we've seen, they're putting heavy emphasis on portraying Shadow as a sympathetic character succumbing to grief and rage at losing his family, which is absolutely perfect. I have confidence that the rest of the movie will also be awesome!
I'm 100% with you here. Shadow was the thing they needed to get right and it seems like that is exactly the case. I get the attachment to things like Ark or a Biolizard. But the key to all this is handling his character, past, and journey well. And it seems like they are doing exactly that. And I'm left extremely confident that this movie will be great
Minor music note-- It wouldn't at ALL surprise me if they have an orchestral version of Live and Learn to back up various parts of the rising action, and then bust out the lyrical version for the final fight. My guess is that they'll use Live and Learn as a sort of leitmotif.
Johnny Gioeli is actually promoting the movie unlike the previous two. That's the biggest confirmation for me that Live and Learn is going to play a crucial role.
He indeed confirmed the song was licensed, but added that he wasn’t asked to perform. They could just use or remix the existing version but I’m not going to get ahead of myself because I’ve been burned by the sound tracks in these movies so far. 😅
Just by 1 trailer and 3 lines of dialogue, I'm already convinced this will be one of the best iterations of Shadow since 06. As well as Shadoe Generations and how hype it looks
For me I'm most interested in how Gerald being alive affects the story since him being alive means shadow didn't necessarily lose everything but has someone actively pushing towards revenge
It would be neat if we kept the whole Gerald brainwashed Shadow into forgetting his promise thing. But with Robotnic alive this time. Maybe we'll get an abusive/manipulative relationship angle if Shadow still knows he's alive and is actively working for him.
I reckon they’ll do Shadow’s character the utmost justice and then some. The fact they acknowledge in the TRAILER the juxtaposition between movie Sonic’s ‘found family’ backstory and Shadow’s most likely horrific backstory, speaks volumes about how well those behind this movie understand who Shadow is. It’s ticks across the board for me, haven’t been this excited about a movie in years
6:10 I bet that IS the Ark in this universe, but instead of being hidden on an asteroid/satellite, it will be hidden on Earth. I don't like how small it is but I'd prefer that instead of having not Ark at all. 9:13 my theory is that Gerald was in cryo-sleep like Shadow or there's a time-travel subplot. I believe they'll retire Jim Carrey by redeeming Eggman. Since SA2 is one of the few times he and Sonic work together to save the world and that story was ment to be the end of Sonic overall at some point. Also the whole thing about Jim Carrey's Eggman is that he didn't have family growing up. Finding family and something to care about might put an end on his evil deeds.
100% It is small because of budget reasons. Sonic movies do well, but not like Transformers movies making a billion. They don't have the budget to CGI an entire small planet.
@@AceCardGaming right? Its called The ARK, not The RAFT. But to me as long as it takes our heroes to space, has a planet destroyer laser and goes on a crash course to Earth I'm willing to give the design a pass
Ok so people have been saying there’s a time traveling plot ok where? Thats would be so random to just show up out of nowhere and lazy excuse but cryo sleep could indeed be the case. I think Gerald is the real villain remember they’re only taking specific themes from Sonic adventure 2 not the full game storyline so there’s a very good reason why he’s still alive for what purpose we will have to wait til Dec 20th 😫
I'm incredibly relieved that we got the voice actor who always voices Keanu in the German dub. And not just any old, unmotivated old man like in the games. German voice actors don't have a fan base like yours.
As for the scene with shadow and Gerald standing over Maria body maybe they escape from the ark and made it to earth where they think they were safe but the gun soldiers would be waiting for theme to arrive where Maria is would be shot.
People are theorizing that she died from the explosion that they're surrounded by in the trailer because that would make more in with a PG movie, although I don't think there's a difference because both deaths are brutal to be happening to a terminally ill little girl
@@Reyna_AmaturiI mean yeah but it makes shadow motives and her death more impactful that G.U.N was intending to kill her. I hope she doesn’t die by an accidental explosion. If she does die by one I hope that the government/G.U.N always intended to kill her. Like which would make shadow’s plans to destroy the world be better “oh sorry man that was an accident” or “she knows too much we putting her down for good”
I don't mind if they adapt the details of Shadow's story, I feel like we've learned by now that keeping the Spirit of the story intact is more important. And at least from this first trailer...oh boy did they!
This will be a extremely important product for the franchise. There's a lot riding on this film. With Shadow's character becoming mainstream, let's hope this is the reset for his character that is long overdue. The movies aren't held back by Sega's mandates, with Sonic being extremely emotive and seeing Knuckle's father. With Jeff Fowler and the writers being huge Shadow fans, let's hope they will finally fix his character, and will inspire Sega to do the rest.
@@rickyronny4019, I know. I mean in the terms that a widespread audience will know more on his character, his backstory and his personality. You know, for newer fans.
Hopefully so, since Sonic 2 Knuckles is no longer a dumbass and is actually relevant again, I think he's in third place behind Sonic and Shadow rn in terms of popularity
I read somewhere that the comic writers mentioned Sega giving them a bit more freedom with Shadow's character. So hopefully this will be the end of edgelord Shadow.
6:01 someone in twitter had said it perfectly on this shoot! cant find who but overall they said the way shadow moves, like a snake, head still, the eyes on a predator, who is only moved by instinct, was so animalistic and so pefect and I agree! he looks like a tiger, theres hatred sure but determination too! idk just loved that idea
What's the fastest why to make someone look like a badass? Have them solo the previously biggest badass. I think it's called "Uping the Stakes," but I like to call it the "Future Trunks Effect" But seriously, from the trailer, it seems like Shadow's teleporting caught Team Sonic off guard. So, he's not necessarily stronger then Knuckles, Rad Red just wasn't ready for Shadow's fighting style
The trope is called the warf effect. And Knuckles got warfed hard. He went down like a punk. And I kinda love it. (But then, I'm a Shadow fangirl so *shrug*) It's just a trailer. They had three minutes. I'm sure he'll get done justice in the movie.
I think the movie will be fantastic. The key is getting the spirit of the story right and it seems like they are. Details for the Ark or how much space is involved in the story isn't the truly important stuff. Because this isn't Sonic Adventure 2 - The movie. It's Sonic the Hedgehog 3. And so far it seems like they've got the right mindset. Shadow will be an absolute badass and will likely push Sonic to his limit. Being willing to team up with Robotnik (and potentially give him a quill he can use) shows how far he might be willing to go. They seem ready to handle the tragedy of Shadow himself in a strong way. And honestly having Geralt be alive adds great twists to the story. Was he kept in stasis somehow? Is there time travel involved? Who knows! But it should be strong movie.
Fun Fact: Months ago, I previously thought Bryan Cranston would be Gerald Robotnik. But seeing him played by Jim Carrey was actually made all the more sense. I mean, both he & Ivo literally look alike.
2:31 Did you notice that if you zoom in, you can see Shadow holding Maria’s hand using both hands? I hope this entire scene gets played out, as shown in the trailer, like what happens on the ARK and how they get to this point. I think in this scene, this is where Maria says her final words to Shadow and Gerald and has Shadow promise her to protect the dreams of the people of Earth. Also, I think this scene takes place on Earth and not in the ARK because we see exploded cars on the side, and I don't think there were military cars in the ARK to compare its size shown in the movie when it's being lifted from the ocean in London I think why it is this size and not as it was in SA2 because they're trying to be more realistic because if this movie takes place in 2024 then fifty years ago would be in the 1970s and there hasn't been a lot of advanced science yet and I know it's ridiculous to have this movie be more realistic since we have talking hedgehogs 🦔🖤❤️
I'm really annoyed by the argument "oh this is the 1970's so it can't be the Ark in space in the past". That's, frankly, a really dumb argument for a fantasy universe like this. Earth is far more advanced than our present day Earth. Its possible the Ark is simply on Earth and was never sent off into space until the present day events of the film, but I don't get why people think it CAN'T be in space 50 years ago either because "real world logic" which REALLY doesn't apply here. Shadow is straight up an artificial biological life form alien created 50 years ago as well. Why is it such a stretch the Ark existed 50 years ago, too, when Shadow exists?
@Ace Card Gaming it looks like you didn't notice the brief moment in the trailer where tails is flying away from the space colony ark in the trailer, where Sonic & Knuckles are behind tails at the entrance of the ark in the background, but to the upper right corner of the screen, one can clearly see the huge metal spikes that resembles the Robotnik moustache. Also the scenes were Sonic runs up the bridge cable and launches himself, while Knuckles charges off the clock face of Big Ben, those are scenes eluding to Sonic, Knuckles and Tails going airbourne to get on board the ark as it is starting to take off, which Sonic's huge launge leap off the top of the bridge top is a nod to Sonic CD opening animation where Sonic blasts down the mountain side to launch himself onto the huge chains that Robotnik was using to keep Little Planet tied down to conquer it.
I did notice, I mention it later in the video. 🙂 I still don’t think that’s an obvious shot of the Ark as it could also NOT be what it looks like. And if this is the Ark, its design has been heavily altered.
The fact that this movie exists floors me. Like if I timetraveled and showed 10 year old me this trailer, she'd be a sobbing mess. So glad I got to be a 25 year old me being a sobbing mess 😂
If you want the OG story, go play the game it’s there. This is a movie, a different medium and while it can pick elements from the game it WILL NOT be a 1:1 retelling. Gotta think, this is a movie for all audiences and a giant lizard will be a giant leap from what we’ve already seen. Expect not to see the ark, but be surprised if it does show up. With that said, I’m ALL in for this movie. Long live the king?
thank you, I been seeing people saying they want this film it be just like sonic adventure 2, just search up cutscenes list and watch it, if you want a Sonic adventure 2 flim
Not sold on the voice, yet, but man Shadow is Pretty! Why is Gerald alive? my guesses are he is either a hallucination or he used himself as a guinea pig in his search for a cure for Maria. as Project Shadow did involve immortality reasearch, if they are keeping that part of the lore intact. I have also heard people saying its Black Doom in disguise, and as much as i love the alien devil i don't want him in this movie. As for the possible Ark in the river, I read somewhere that the Ark in the games is 17 Kilo meters in diameter, like (thats why cars, heck Lost Impact had a car hidden behind the secret door, it was rather useless thouh). My opinion, the movie version does not need to be THAT big and i wouldn't call the thing in the river tiny. I am intressted to see how this movie plays out and hope good portray of Shadow.
Yeah I don't think we're getting Black Doom. Based on rumors, though, I feel like the "Black Arms" might instead be the former name of GUN, so it ties into "Black Arms" VERY loosely, while still having GUN technically be responsible for what happened to Gerald/Shadow/Maria.
I really hope they handle Maria and Gerald well. Because knowing their fates in the games, I'm not quite sure if their fates in the movie would be as impactful as it was before.
You know what would be sweet? If they save Shadow’s redemption arch for movie 5. In this 3rd movie. It could just be, the manage to knock shadow down, but not put him out. Movie 4 introduces Amy, showcasing Metal as the villain while shadow is cooking in the background. And then movie 5 introduces Rouge and redeems Shadow… As I type these things out, I realize that all these Sonic things combined with the ‘new’ human characters just makes things way too complicated… as a story writer, I see this introducing way too many moving parts… if it was me, I would’ve introduced Rouge into the Knuckles TV show, then keep her as a mainly Knuckles Problem. And then have Amy be, one of the only female characters that deals with Shadow. (In his initial debut arc, that is.)
Never really understood the complaint about Knuckle. He already got his moment multiple times with the second film and the wade show. This is just him finally getting humbled and present Shadow as a threat. I don't see anybody complaint when Sonic got his ass kicked by Knuckle. And like you said, this is a film about Shadow. Obviously, he's gonna dominate all of them. What's the point of being called the ultimate lifeform if he can't flex his powers and strength.
My only concerns (I can hardly call them that though cause as much as I want these things I’m sure the movie is gonna be good either way) are them possibly nerfing the ark’s size or removing it entirely and the story maybe not sending the same kind of message about corruption and human beings and their greed but also kindness. I feel keeping Gerald alive COULD POTENTIALLY (just so no one gets mixed up) lower the stakes or just not make the message as meaningful, as Gerald is pretty much exclusively a serious character. But yeah, I am tremendously excited like you Keanu impressed me and I only found myself being more impressed as I heard more and even relistening to his lines and stuff man like that is a mark of a good shadow his lines are so infectious with coolness you can’t help but quote them lol. Sorry for the long comment but I am soul bound to this hedgehog
Right. I am a bit worried about Gerald being played by Jim Cary. Eggman's one thing he's supposed to be silly. But Gerald is a genius turned horror villain with insane grief. I don't want him Jim Caryified. But I trust these writers. We'll see.
I cannot wait for this movie! Hard to imagine this is the same canon with Sonic and Eggman doing that floss dance, Wade & Knuckles, and that original design of Sonic. Yes, while I would like to see Amy and Rouge (for church reasons, unlike a lot of people) I say it is better to have more time to focus on Shadow. Heck, we could even get a handful of flashbacks to Maria and Shadow just being a wholesome family. Even have Biolizard in them too if he’s in the movie. And what will they do with the ‘orphaned’ Eggman and his grandfather? Would seem crazy to have Gerald have his other grandchild get killed because the world too his other grandchild.
I think Sonic evading G.U.N. and being in San Francisco are acceptable removals from this movie since both were already done in the previous movies. As both a die hard Sonic fan and Japanophile, I'm excited that this movie seems to be taking place in Tokyo. Especially when I've been in the very place Team Sonic and Shadow are fighting quite a few times (the Starbucks in Shibuya Scramble)
And now I'm picturing Movie Shadow walking out of Starbucks, coffee in hand and then blowing it up w/o looking back. Causing the initial explosion that leads to Sonic and Tails finding him...
Remember at the post credits, they said it was coordinates to a secret black site, which is probably the base where Gerald & Maria were at, which it seems to be on earth, and I bet that base becomes the Arc, hence the ship rising out of the river on London, the Arc was earthbound waiting to be launched 🤷🏿♂️
Im excited, honestly. I think Keanu's voice fits, but im not sold on it quite yet. The story genuinely looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun. I would like to see the ARK and the Biolizard, though. Im unsure of what the finale would be otherwise. Overall, even if the writing isn't that good, i'm still expecting to be fun. I want to see this movie for the experience it'll be. I'd drop everything to watch it if it came out right now!
I wonder do you think that Amy will make an appearance? I know something don’t like her, but she was the reason why shadow changed his mind about not saving people because she reminded him of Maria right? If we’re going sonic avenger battle 2 game a little bit.
I honestly never wanted anyone other than Keanu to voice Shadow in the Paramount Sonic films, so I was very happy when I found out that Keanu would be voicing Shadow. It's one of the only things I genuinely love about the Paramount Sonic films. Also, I don't like that Gerald's story in Sonic 3 seems to be a watered down version of his story in Sonic Adventure 2 with Gerald now being a cartoonish comic-relief character instead of the good man who became insane because of his grief that he was in Sonic Adventure 2. I am going to be honest, I loved the trailer for what it was but I still hope if we get more Paramount Sonic films after Sonic 3 that Paramount will do a reboot and I say this as someone who usually hates reboots. I hate the 'Sonic in the real world' premise of the Paramount Sonic films, it's inherently restrictive and robs the films of the exciting science-fiction/fantasy elements of its source material that made me fucking obsessed with the Sonic franchise as a kid. It's obvious that the Paramount Sonic movies prioritise the general audience (AKA the normie audience) over actual Sonic fans like myself, which is ironic because I strongly believe that if they prioritised us Sonic fans over the general audience, they would win over not only us Sonic fans but ALSO the general audience. And us Sonic fans are at least equally as important as the general audience because the general audience will only watch this movie once, whereas us Sonic fans are likely to watch this movie more than once. In the original Japanese version of the games, Sonic's home was always Earth all along albeit obviously an alternate version of Earth where humans and anthros live together. Paramount needs to do that to move forward with its Sonic film franchise, in my opinion. And Jim Carrey most likely retiring from acting after Sonic 3 is a good justification for a reboot, especially because Paramount said they won't replace Jim Carrey with another actor to play Robotnik. Just do a reboot on an alternate version of Earth where humans and anthros have been living together all along and make that reboot entirely animated to stay more true to the spirit and the lore and the imagery of the games. That way Sonic can live up to his true potential on the big screen just like he deserves.
I think the floating vessel we see IS the ARK (or possibly Death Egg as some have said, replacing the ARK idea) because this movie isn't going to have an entire space colony. It'll be a satellite research station at best. Which means Maria probably died on earth.
With Professor Gerald still alive I’m really hoping that they keep the rewriting Shadow’s memories of Maria’s final wish thing. It would make such an amazing conflict between them that has never been seen before and make total sense on Shadow joining the heroes in the end. Also, I’m hoping this theory I have over the red ring black hole causing a chain reaction that makes more portals that bring the characters we know like Amy, Rouge, Cream & Cheese, Big, Team Chaotix, etc. into the movie universe for its SCU! God, I have so many high hopes for this movie and franchise! Too excited I am! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
One thing that’s clear is that this film crew has no issues with trying to push themselves with each movie. And it’s cause of that I’m not worried in the slightest. When someone is that passionate in a story it’s going to show, it won’t be perfect but it doesn’t need to be. Honestly the best way to tell how committed they are is comparing it against Mufasa. That movie has all the signs of a team too complacent to really deliver something good. I’m no Disney hater and I’ve been rooting for almost everything they have this year. With the exception of this movie, the best thing for them right now is Mufasa failing and Sonic 3 beating them handily while their animated movies succeed.
If it does end up being the Ark, its design is a significant bummer so far. In relation to the Bio Lizard, is its absence officially confirmed or just speculated?
On the topic of "there probably wouldn't be vehicles on the Arc": In the games, the Arc looks to be a very big place. Possibly the size of a city. And would you be willing to get from one end to the other, possibly transporting equipment and materials while doing so, on foot there? I wouldn't.
I’m more so thinking that pneumatic tubes, lifts and conveyor belts would be used like you see in SA2. You could well be right but I have a feeling the movie will have this play out on earth.
I hate that Gerald is alive and acting like a cartoon supervillain. It ruins his whole character. In the games he was a kind soul that wanted to help the world. He built the eclipse cannon to protect Earth from the Black Arms. He only went mad when he lost Maria and his thoughts of revenge scared even himself.
Maybe he's not revealing his true colors yet; this is the first trailer. At first, he’ll behave cartoonish with Eggman when he first meets him since that is his grandson, and he probably knows that he was an orphan and had no one to love him, so he'll probably want him on his side and will think he wants to be on his side to take revenge on everyone on Earth for what happened to Maria, but when Eggman finds out he goes back to Sonic’s side after knowing that his Grandfather is a full-on madman, probably even crazier than him for being so grief-stricken at the death of Maria
@@Hynotama they shows us a scene that’s less than 20 seconds. Good lord y’all niggas complain bout everything. Have fun ruining the experience of a movie you haven’t even watched 😂
I think the colony has to be on Earth, the shot with Maria’s death makes it look like they’re on a dirt ground, not the metal floor you’d associate with the ARK. It is so interesting that Gerald’s with Shadow in Maria’s final moments though? Considering the soldiers around them, how did Shadow get detained but Gerald didn’t? And if he was old and greying 50 years ago, how is he alive 50 years later?? I admit the changes make me nervous as well, but all the more excited to have my questions answered in the movie. They got Shadow right and that’s all I really care about
In fairness to Knuckles and friends getting wrecked, it is really hard to square up with someone who can turn off time at will. I don't care how good a fighter you are, if you aren't already expecting Shadow's chaos control going in you are taking the L in that first encounter.
the reason for the turned over cars is probably a sign they're going for the Shadow the Hedgehog story, rather than a retelling of SA2.. 😞 Also they'll probably retcon Shadow's sacrifice.
5:02 they were always gonna get a celebrity to voice him 6:42 I doubt were getting the biolizard it would look weird in live action 8:15 also I highly doubt were getting rhe ACTUAL live and learn with the original singer it would be distracting and would take people out of the movie a bit
I never was under any illusion they wouldn’t get a celebrity to voice him. I just think David is awesome. 🙂 If they can get Sonic etc to work in live action, it’s entirely possible to have the Bio Lizard. They probably won’t for whatever reason but when we have the likes of the Jurassic Park movies, there is nothing about giant creatures that makes them impossible to use live action. While your opinion is perfectly valid, most Sonic fans seem to want the OG version with lyrics. It’s not exactly rare for movies to use songs with lyrics in fight scenes.
@AceCardGaming I understand david is awesome too And I just think having a giant lizard attached to a space colony would be a bit weird for general audiences And I know most fans want to hear the lyrics , but I just think it would take people out of the movie most likely gonna be an orcharstrated version is gonna make the cut which I don't mind
@@juliabonavita4731It mostly just depends on where they put it. I'd be surprised if it was the original version, but they could do a fun remix. I do agree that too many people are hung up on the music though. It can't just be thrown in there haphazardly because it was in the games. It needs to fit. If it doesn't fit, I'd rather it just not be there. Good movie first, nostalgia second.
even if some characters dont appear (i personally think amy and rouge will appear since sonic and eggman were seen at another planet) i would atleast be ok if we get just shadow, gerald, maria, and maybe metal sonic, since the best way to defeat both the blue blur and the ultimate lifeform is to have a machine to counter them, with a pinch of irony added to it
The voice is much better than Kirk Thorton already. I don’t need him to br the absolute best Shadow I just need him to be good and better than Thorton.
There was a smaller flying ship of similar shape to the arc rising from the water. The Biolizard though is nessacary for the movie. With limited time the Biolizard didn't add much narratively besides a boss fight. I wouldn't be against the Biolizard but it would be a lot of cgi and would be a lot harder for the team to adapt. Gerald can easily program the same result as the games without the Lizard anyway. Even in the game continuity Biolizard could have easily replaced narratively.
My guess is that the Ark will not be in Sonic Movie 3 and that ship in London is mostly likely the Death Egg, and I'm fine with that because the Sonic Movieverse don't need to be 1 to 1 with the games (unlike Sonic IDW and Sonic Prime where it's like the game because Sega-ATLUS wanted them to be cannon to the games which I'm fine with) and it can be it's own alternate universe while respecting the source material. They could be saving Rouge for a Shadow series where Shadow is still on the loose trying to go on a journey self discovery and redemption where G.U.N hires Rouge the Bat to hunt Shadow down to put him back where he belongs and Robotnik makes E-123 Omega to have it hunt Shadow down because he most likely want's Shadow's chaos power for Metal Sonic, then the Black Arms invade by the end of Episode 1 and Shadow, Rouge and Omega reluctantly team up to defeat Black Doom and Team Dark is formed in the Sonic Movieverse. Amy could be save for Sonic Movie 4 where Robotnik makes Metal Sonic and uses Metal Sonic to capture Amy and mess with Time, Team Sonic and Team Dark have to track down Robotnik and Metal Sonic save Amy and restore time back to normal, think of it as it's own version of Sonic CD.
Despite Adventure 2 being my second favorite Sonic game, I am so glad to see that they aren't just copying and pasting the story of Adventure 2. I was so upset going to the theaters to see Uncharted with my cousins just to discover that it was basically just the same thing as cutacenes I could've seen online for free. The Sonic Movie Universe has its own stories to tell and I'm glad they are more and more including elements from the games, and in the case of this story, taking elements from Adventure 2. But that's all I want it to be. Everyone keeps holding their breath for Amy and Rouge and the Biolozard to be in, but I personally hope they aren't. Why? Because they risk just being there just for the sake of being there. That's part of why I hate Marvel and Disney right now. Focus on the story that needs to be told and that alone. Don't just inject characters in here just for the sake of having more Sonic characters here. That's what Sonic Forces did and that ruined Silver for me as well as several of the others. From what I can currently tell with the direction they are headed in, Amy would be pointless. Rouge could be pointless. Please just focus on the story that needs to be told for this universe to exist, don't copy and paste the game I've already played 20 times.
tbh im not anticipating the biolizard appearing at all. i wouldn't be surprised if that small shop was the ark or if they didn't even go to space. people are expecting an adaptation of sa2, but aside from shadow's backstory, i don't see why the movie can't do its own thing when it did that for the first two movies too
Just throwing this out there, this movie could've been about shadow gathering team dark and going against sonic's fulfilling adventure two's original hero against villain premise! Not right?
I'm pretty sold on the movie, because I accept the fact that it's not Sonic Adventures 2: The Movie, but a movie that took inspiration from SA2. I'm also glad Keanu Reeves voiced Shadow, and people may complain that he's only using his normal voice for this, but hey! It fits! Keanu always has that dark, mysterious thing going on about him, as shown in his John Wick role. So yeah, go Shadow Wick! (They better make a call back on Sonic calling Keanu Reeves a national treasure, that'd be funny.) Anyways, what are your thoughts on the fandom copium? Lots of fans seem to think that Paramount is pulling a 'Sony No Way Home' move to hide Amy or Rouge. Honestly I think the movie would get a little too crowded if they add more anthropomorphic characters. Like Any's role here can be done by someone else and I don't know how Rouge is gonna fit in here unless they make some weird explanation out of it. And some fans think Paramount is sexist for not having female anthropomorphic characters. Like honestly, those two deserve their own screentime and they do not need to be overshadowed by Shadow. (Though Rouge could have been introduced in the Knuckles show but unfortunately it wasn't exactly a Knuckles show.) By the way, this movie is gonna be EPIC! And I'm manifesting a Metal Sonic post-credit scene!
@@AceCardGamingGoing for heroes next would overshadow Amy and rouge then anyway. The whole argument for Amy not being in movie 3 would be to allow her to shine in 4. (Ignore how outrageous it is that Amy who canonically met sonic first and is part of the core 4 may very well only come in the movies 6 years after the first one)
How would Amy or Rouge be overshadowed more in an adaption of Heroes (I have my doubts every character in that game would appear). If they introduced Rouge, Amy and Metal I think it could work.
@@AceCardGaming Cuz there would be 6 mobians on screen at that point. Which the whole argument for Amy not appearing in 3 is it would detract from shadow then surely this is literally the case in this scenario. We have little focus on her and she's at risk of the tails treatment in movie 2
In a story as complicated as Shadow’s, I think Amy would suffer on the big screen. In a story like Heroes? Where the whole theme of the game is coming together and solving the mystery and putting a stop to Metal? I think that would be fine. A movie if it would probably be even simpler. Just my personal opinion though, they may not even go with Heroes next.
What great shame that Amy nor Rouge gonna appear. Even imagined voices for latter(Sofia Carson/Zazie Beetz),and how adventure's story would've worked with bat filling rose's spots!
Shadow looks awesome. Im glad he's getting his time to shine with a movie and a game. However I'm also disappointed in sega for doing my girl amy so dirty. She got one comic for her 30th anniversary. TMOSTH was us following tails and playing as sonic despite it being her birthday, and it looks likely she won't get to be on the big screen until movie 4 if she's lucky, despite being the one who met sonic first canonically. I hope movie 4 allows her to shine and isn't an 06 or heroes plot which leads to her being overshadowed considering it's likely she'll lose one of her most important moments to someone else in movie 3 of redeeming shadow. I stg if she's a damsel in distress in movie 4 Imma cry. What are your thoughts? PS I'm still hyped for this movie I'm just sad it feels like sega is shafting amy again.
I feel bad for Movie Knuxs cuz bro got sidelined by both Shadow n even Wade lol. I still love Movie Knuxs, but naw move over, it’s time for my goat to shine :) (Still hope they won’t do Knuxs dirty at the end of the film n give him a good role along with Tails who I think he really needs his character moment the most tbh)
I'm excited for this movie, but also slightly nervous. Despite Shadow's enormous popularity, he also seems to have what can only be described as a "hate base!" Seriously, it's like he's one of the most popular Sonic characters, and yet simultaneously one of it's most hated. The fact that he's both is quite astonishing. Normally I wouldn't let this kind of hatred ruin one of my favourite characters, but since Sega has this annoying habit of listening to the most toxic of criticisms and effectively adjusting the Sonic series to appease the whiniest of naysayers, we've been left with an incredibly flanderized version of the Ultimate Life Form for over a decade now. While this definitely looks like a vast improvement, it still makes me wonder why it took Sega this long to realise that people do actually LIKE this character, and want to see justice done to his portrayal.
Do you you know the funny thing is that rough the bat is not in the movie which mean someone like tom is going to talk to shadow in the climax of the story
I’m pretty sure that ship is the Ark. you say the tails pic could be the Ark bc of mustache blade but “looks like” the ship. That’s because they are the same
I don’t believe Shadow is the big villain as this trailer is making him out to be no there’s gonna be a plot twist…. 🧐🧐🧐🧐 also I’m hoping Blaze the Cat gets justice for her debut in the movie verse and not be an side along with silver keep them separate PLEASE.
Hate to burst your bubble, but that wasn't an orchestral version of Live & Learn rather an epic variant of Green Hill Zone that's near unrecognizable. Though I can definitely see why some folks would have initially thought Live & Learn, as I can hear some resemblance.
Yeah was definitely green hill first, but there were 4 beats of live and learn’s guitar right at the end for the Logo. I misspoke in where it played. 😅
I think it really doesn't matter if the Tragedy doesn't happen on the Ark, what matters is the events themselves, not the place. And that shift is likely to be its movie version, obviously we don't know the context, it could be built by Eggman, or Gerald, or both, it could serve as a weapon or trap against Shadow, or Sonic, so many possibilities. This is not SA2 the movie, I don't know why some people keep expecting it to be, personally I am more interested to see how they will use and flip around the original plot, and we can see that already in the trailer a bit.
I have my reservations, they might want to try to do too much, or too little with all the characters, and the third act in the movie might become a convoluted mess, the trailer looks great, but we can only expect that the movie lives up to the hype that the trailer has raised in everyone.
Unfortunately I'm the bearer of bad news it seems Takashi Iizuka in a recent article from Sonic Stadium has taken the wrong lesson from Shadow appearing here. Apparently wanting to make him a antagonist again.
Learn to read. Being an antagonist from the pov of other characters. That doesn't mean Shadow = evil, Lizuka wants to show him less heroic, this is not SA2
@@Karianysu Ironic since you're the one here that can't read or at the very least does not understand the meaning of words. "Antagonist" does not equal evil. Its why I used that specific word. Regardless it's clear hes only wanting to do this over the movie's influence.
@@TheSwordsman100 that is quite literally what they said. plus shadow was the main antagonist for a majority of sa2, nix the ending. he only became an antihero after sa2, though i could see an argument that he was close to an antihero in sa2 (but destroying *all* of humanity is kinda hard to justify). antagonist just means that theyre going against to protagonist, or the main character. if we followed eggman in the games, then sonic is the antagonist. no ones saying that shadow is evil because hes an antagonist. theres no reason to be upset that hes an antagonist - thats just how it is
sonic 3 is not sa2: the movie, and that's okay. i'd rather go in as a sonic fan and still end up surprised and invested in the story instead of just having to sit through the same story i already know lol for me, all that matters is that they're tackling maria's death which is all i really need for a shadow adaptation. keeping gerald alive could allow for some really cool storytelling opportunities.
I actually think it would be kinda genius if Shadow initially was acting the way he kinda was in the Meta Era, before redeeming him and then turn into his Heroes and 06 self after learning and value of compassion and remembering Maria's promise. As a form of character development where they reengineer his character. Also if I were to guess what meme they'll reference in this one, it'll probably be Shadow's line from Shadow the Hedgehog: "Where's that DAMN fourth Chaos Emerald?!".
Shadow is canonically stronger fighter and more skilled than Knuckles and tails. Knuckles may have more raw power bit Shadow wins in pretty much every continuity
I doubt Rouge will show up for Movie 3 while Amy at best, she’ll be post credits. Movie 3 ain’t SA2 the movie after all. Just a loose interpretation of it which while it seems disappointing, honestly I’m fine with it since I rather they take a new approach for Sonic over just copying SA2 story with live action that probably wouldn’t match the OG story. I still hope Sonic can grind in rails, skate down City Escape, or maybe get soap shoes while Tails gets his mech but I ain’t holding out much. At best we might get funny easter eggs, some iconic lines from SA2, and maybe possibly hopefully get an orchestral version of Live n Learn for the final boss. If Mario Movie can do it, then there’s no excuse for Sonic Movie 3. I get Movie 3 doesn’t need to make a lot of references to the games in order to be good and it’s not SA2 the movie, but come on Paramount just one easy bit for hardcore fans at least. Most likely we ain’t getting Rouge n Amy for the main story of Movie 3. Along with changing n cutting out moments from SA2 story for budget n maybe even pg rated reasons for Movie 3. However tho, come on at least satisfy hardcore Sonic fans by giving us Live n Learn at least. If they done it, then I’m satisfied n will die in happiness if that moment happens in theater🙌🏾😭🔥.
No one on here will believe me, but I'll tell you what's going on here What you're seeing here is a story very different from the original game; Shadow was created in lab on earth, that's where all the the shot of him and Maria actually is. Maria is not sick with a terminal illness, she's just the granddaughter of Shadows Creator who lives on site at the base where he's made and she befriend shadow. The government pushes for shadow, who's a weapon created for use in the cold war, to be pushed into combat training early, and the results of him not being able to control his powers is an explosion that destroys part of the lab and kills maria, that's what you're seeing here is the aftermath of that explosion . Maria and Shadow are never aboard the ark, and Maria doesn't get shot and is killed in the explosion slightly off screen; this is still a kids movie. The ark doesn't come in until the final scene when it rises out of the Thames and it's taken up into space in the Final Act of the movie as the set for the final battle. Don't believe me if you will, but we'll see when the actual movie comes out.
I think people are placing too much hope on this movie being 1 to 1 with the game. It's not going to be. It's a different writer telling a different story with a different media to a different audience. I really don't think the biolizard will be in the movie. Because frankly he wasn't all that important to the plot. Didn't show up once before you kill him if I remember right. Just a really cool boss fight. Sure there's things I want in this movie (Sonic attempting to do a Quicksilver scene on Shadow b4 realizing Shadow's just as fast as him would be SO COOL.) But honestly I just want my favorite character to be respected and not a Vagita travesty and I want this movie to make me cry. All the little details I can live without. Just give me a heartbreaking story with a Shadow the Hedgehog.
I agree and shadow will be incredible with keanu reeves voicing him
@@mayracordero382yeah. His voice fits Shadow so well 😂
All hail Shadow and all of me ! ⚫️🔴⚡️
The plot can be about going to a bowling tournament as long as shadow is in character it’ll be peak
I'm 100% with you here. Shadow was the thing they needed to get right and it seems like that is exactly the case. I get the attachment to things like Ark or a Biolizard. But the key to all this is handling his character, past, and journey well. And it seems like they are doing exactly that. And I'm left extremely confident that this movie will be great
"You're a colorful bunch."
Already an iconic line.
Minor music note-- It wouldn't at ALL surprise me if they have an orchestral version of Live and Learn to back up various parts of the rising action, and then bust out the lyrical version for the final fight. My guess is that they'll use Live and Learn as a sort of leitmotif.
I would be down for this! Just don’t let the orchestral version be all there is and I’m happy.
I'm REALLY hoping for this to happen 🙏
God I really hope they don't disappoint us on the music aspect. It would piss the holy hell out of us if they don't.
I'm guessing he's the true antagonist of the movie. 🤔
@@KrazyChibi that's gotta be black doom pretending gerald
@@sedlyholmes3722That's an interesting theory. Though I doubt it. Has Black Doom ever disguised himself as someone else before?
It would be neat if we kept the whole Gerald brainwashed Shadow into forgetting his promise thing. But with Robotnic alive this time. Maybe we'll get an abusive/manipulative relationship angle if Shadow still knows he's alive and is actively working for him.
Wonder what they’re doing with this…
They made this shadow Into a MENACE for real and I honestly like his design more than sonic 😅 I love movie sonic but shadow is where its at
I reckon they’ll do Shadow’s character the utmost justice and then some. The fact they acknowledge in the TRAILER the juxtaposition between movie Sonic’s ‘found family’ backstory and Shadow’s most likely horrific backstory, speaks volumes about how well those behind this movie understand who Shadow is. It’s ticks across the board for me, haven’t been this excited about a movie in years
The Sonic 3 movie trailer was so peak, he became Shadowman
@Chibiknux If that ends up being the case, the design is very underwhelming so far. 😔
@@Chibiknux
Yeah, I don't really care about the Arc as some people are, I just want to see Super Sonic in Space
I hope I can handle maria's death in the movie
People are theorizing that she died from the explosion that they're surrounded by in the trailer because that would make more in with a PG movie, although I don't think there's a difference because both deaths are brutal to be happening to a terminally ill little girl
@@Reyna_AmaturiI mean yeah but it makes shadow motives and her death more impactful that G.U.N was intending to kill her. I hope she doesn’t die by an accidental explosion. If she does die by one I hope that the government/G.U.N always intended to kill her. Like which would make shadow’s plans to destroy the world be better “oh sorry man that was an accident” or “she knows too much we putting her down for good”
Shadow and his backstory are top priority. Save Amy Rose and Rouge for a Sonic 4 movie.
I will quote what heard from someone on Twitter.
"This isn't Sonic Adventure 2 the movie"
Nope. It’s an adaptation of its story. How different or similar it should be is simply a matter of opinion.
In that shot with Tails, notice how black the background is and how Tails is holding his breath. We're going to space.
Shadow’s character been mainstream
@@rickyronny4019, I know. I mean in the terms that a widespread audience will know more on his character, his backstory and his personality. You know, for newer fans.
@@Artist_Unbound ahh I see
Hopefully so, since Sonic 2 Knuckles is no longer a dumbass and is actually relevant again, I think he's in third place behind Sonic and Shadow rn in terms of popularity
I read somewhere that the comic writers mentioned Sega giving them a bit more freedom with Shadow's character. So hopefully this will be the end of edgelord Shadow.
The sonic 3 trailer was incredible and this video about shadow's character is outstanding acecardgaming
Thank you Mayra, glad you enjoyed it!
It helps that the director of the movie worked on the cinematic scenes in the 2005 Shadow game. So the guy definitely knows what he's doing!
That bit is probably my favorite part of the trailer, strangely enough. He looks incredibly intimidating.
Let it be known there is no happer group of people than Sonic fans when Maria dies.
What's the fastest why to make someone look like a badass? Have them solo the previously biggest badass. I think it's called "Uping the Stakes," but I like to call it the "Future Trunks Effect"
But seriously, from the trailer, it seems like Shadow's teleporting caught Team Sonic off guard. So, he's not necessarily stronger then Knuckles, Rad Red just wasn't ready for Shadow's fighting style
I still got Shadow beating Knuckles if they ever fight. But yes Knuckles wasn’t aware of Shadow’s powers
Its also known as "The Worf Effect".
Fun Fact:
Months ago, I previously thought Bryan Cranston would be Gerald Robotnik. But seeing him played by Jim Carrey was actually made all the more sense. I mean, both he & Ivo literally look alike.
I know how you feel. I'm sorry.
I am definetly sold to this movie!
I thought it was clearly established that the movies are taking their own creative spin in the first 5 minutes of the first movie.
thank you, I been seeing people saying they want this film it be just like sonic adventure 2, just search up cutscenes list and watch it, if you want a Sonic adventure 2 flim
I love keanu reeves as shadow and I'm ready to see sonic movie 3
I have a feeling Robotnik is gonna turn on Sonic
And then movie 5 introduces Rouge and redeems Shadow…
As I type these things out, I realize that all these Sonic things combined with the ‘new’ human characters just makes things way too complicated… as a story writer, I see this introducing way too many moving parts… if it was me, I would’ve introduced Rouge into the Knuckles TV show, then keep her as a mainly Knuckles Problem. And then have Amy be, one of the only female characters that deals with Shadow. (In his initial debut arc, that is.)
Movie Shadow is MAGNIFICENT! 😍
He certainly is!
How you know, you hawen't even seen the movie yet!
@@erikbihari3625 I'm talking about his design
@@devinsauls3568. Sorry, blind praise gets moi worried.
After all, remember what happened with spiderman three?
I think the secret black site was referring specifically to Prison Island where Shadow was locked away.
I think it is the Ark coming out the Thames. It does have two windows and a ring that gives it a sort of face.
So small scale and sterile looking compared to the source material if it is. Maybe the face reveal for it will save it though.
@@AceCardGaming The face seems visible in the later seen when Tails is flying away from it while holding his breath. We can barely see it.
I hope the end credits will have Sins of a Divine Mother’s “Broken.” It would really fit well.
4:03 which is exactly what I'm worried about
With Professor Gerald still alive I’m really hoping that they keep the rewriting Shadow’s memories of Maria’s final wish thing.
One thing that’s clear is that this film
crew has no issues with trying to push themselves with each movie.

It will be interesting to see. I’m guessing if he is consistently goofy they will go with the whole driven mad by grief angle. Which isn’t great tbh.
I hate that y’all are jumping to conclusions based off a three minute trailer 😂
@@rickyronny4019 we already saw Gerald and how he speaks. Those aren’t conclusions. It’s what they’ve shown us.
It looks so promising, cant wait! 😄
the reason for the turned over cars is probably a sign they're going for the Shadow the Hedgehog story, rather than a retelling of SA2.. 😞 Also they'll probably retcon Shadow's sacrifice.
5:02 they were always gonna get a celebrity to voice him
6:42 I doubt were getting the biolizard it would look weird in live action
8:15 also I highly doubt were getting rhe ACTUAL live and learn with the original singer it would be distracting and would take people out of the movie a bit
I never was under any illusion they wouldn’t get a celebrity to voice him. I just think David is awesome. 🙂
If they can get Sonic etc to work in live action, it’s entirely possible to have the Bio Lizard.
@AceCardGaming I understand david is awesome too
And I just think having a giant lizard attached to a space colony would be a bit weird for general audiences
And I know most fans want to hear the lyrics , but I just think it would take people out of the movie most likely gonna be an orcharstrated version is gonna make the cut which I don't mind
Good movie first, nostalgia second.
even if some characters dont appear (i personally think amy and rouge will appear since sonic and eggman were seen at another planet) i would atleast be ok if we get just shadow, gerald, maria, and maybe metal sonic, since the best way to defeat both the blue blur and the ultimate lifeform is to have a machine to counter them, with a pinch of irony added to it
I'm pretty excited for this film.
I am beyond hyped 😂
Shadow voice is alright. Shadow’s design looks amazing and I love it! The Gerald reveal let me a little bit confuse.
Very intrigued to see how they handle Gerald.
@@AceCardGaming. Probably unthreathening goofball, like his grandson! Their discount m.c.u. anyway.
@@AceCardGaming same
The voice is much better than Kirk Thorton already. I don’t need him to br the absolute best Shadow I just need him to be good and better than
Thorton.
Shadow is supposed to be stronger. He purposely wear’s inhibitor rings just to make it somewhat fair.
I love the sonic franchise but oddly the only game I fully played was shadow the hedgehog
5:02 I feel like I’m the only one that wants them to use Jason Griffith and not Keanu or David
I think LOTS of people want Jason Griffith. It’s usually whichever voice actor we hear first that we like best. 🙂
tbh im not anticipating the biolizard appearing at all. i wouldn't be surprised if that small shop was the ark or if they didn't even go to space. people are expecting an adaptation of sa2, but aside from shadow's backstory, i don't see why the movie can't do its own thing when it did that for the first two movies too
I only hope this movie kicks CGI Mufasa's ass.
And Aaron Taylor Johnson's Kraven.
@@hopegalaxy I doubt it will be much of a challenge.
(They better make a call back on Sonic calling Keanu Reeves a national treasure, that'd be funny.)
Anyways, what are your thoughts on the fandom copium? Lots of fans seem to think that Paramount is pulling a 'Sony No Way Home' move to hide Amy or Rouge. Honestly I think the movie would get a little too crowded if they add more anthropomorphic characters. Like Any's role here can be done by someone else and I don't know how Rouge is gonna fit in here unless they make some weird explanation out of it. And some fans think Paramount is sexist for not having female anthropomorphic characters. Like honestly, those two deserve their own screentime and they do not need to be overshadowed by Shadow. (Though Rouge could have been introduced in the Knuckles show but unfortunately it wasn't exactly a Knuckles show.)
By the way, this movie is gonna be EPIC! And I'm manifesting a Metal Sonic post-credit scene!
I think if they do a Metal Sonic post credits scene and go for a heroes story next it’s probably the perfect wait to introduce Amy and Rouge.
Honestly I could care less about Amy. I’m watching the movie for Shadow and Team Sonic, which I don’t even consider Amy to be a part of
@@rickyronny4019Well Amy is part of team sonic. I'm glad you're getting what you want though!
Like with Knuckles in the second movie, I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being Sonic that talks him down.
I’m pretty sure that ship is the Ark. you say the tails pic could be the Ark bc of mustache blade but “looks like” the ship. That’s because they are the same
Seems to be the consensus alright. Bit of a shame if it is design-wise but I guess we still haven’t seen the face portion yet.
@AceCardGaming No it's both. It was Greenhill, then Shadow speech, then Live and Learn
@@FowaJCT maybe at the very end? but if you look up the official ost, its clearly just an orchestral green hill.
@broccolinyu911 dude it is live and learn at the end. It started as green hill then changed
@Karianysu
Yeah people were taking that line out of context to push their "Hate IIzuka agendas"
@@Karianysu
Ironic since you're the one here that can't read or at the very least does not understand the meaning of words. "Antagonist" does not equal evil. Its why I used that specific word. Regardless it's clear hes only wanting to do this over the movie's influence.
@@TheSwordsman100are you slow? I think you’re slow 😂
@@TheSwordsman100 that is quite literally what they said. plus shadow was the main antagonist for a majority of sa2, nix the ending. he only became an antihero after sa2, though i could see an argument that he was close to an antihero in sa2 (but destroying *all* of humanity is kinda hard to justify). antagonist just means that theyre going against to protagonist, or the main character. if we followed eggman in the games, then sonic is the antagonist. no ones saying that shadow is evil because hes an antagonist. theres no reason to be upset that hes an antagonist - thats just how it is
sonic 3 is not sa2: the movie, and that's okay. i'd rather go in as a sonic fan and still end up surprised and invested in the story instead of just having to sit through the same story i already know lol
for me, all that matters is that they're tackling maria's death which is all i really need for a shadow adaptation. keeping gerald alive could allow for some really cool storytelling opportunities.
Rooting for Shadow to end the world!? NO that was not the point of his story, we were supposed to root for him to turn away from that 😭
I really just mean that we sympathise with him to the point of not blaming him for wanting to. I jest 😎
@@AceCardGaming yeah I understand what you meant, it’s just that kind of wording usually misses the point of a redemption arc is all 👍
9:07 Gerald robotniks grandfather
“Gerald, Robotnik’s grandfather, was still alive” 😉
I’ll keep an eye on this post when the movie launches. 😁
Honestly, not too far off 👀 you got it mostly right
@@AceCardGaming so how accurate was I lol
@jamesstreet2397 Some good calls!
Sure there's things I want in this movie (Sonic attempting to do a Quicksilver scene on Shadow b4 realizing Shadow's just as fast as him would be SO COOL.)
But honestly I just want my favorite character to be respected and not a Vagita travesty and I want this movie to make me cry.
All the little details I can live without. Just give me a heartbreaking story with a Shadow the Hedgehog.
