17:19, Enzo is the young Italian baker that Don Corleone helped remain in America so he could get married. In this moment, Enzo is showing some real Old World honor and courage. He isn't a gangster he is just a baker. But in this moment of crisis, Enzo stood tall shoulder to shoulder with Michael. The Corleone's will never forget what he did for them. In Part 3 of this saga, Enzo is still baking cakes for Michael's family decades later.
Loved this reaction! You absolutely have to watch part 2 now! Interesting side note: Francis Ford Coppola said in a commentary that he likes to try to put a family recipe into every movie he makes, hence the quick scene where Clemenza is trying to show Michael how to make spaghetti.

First is better! The screen play, script direction, casting, acting, cinematography, set design, makeup. Tom Hanks said Brando from the beginning to the garden aged perfectly you couldn't even notice till you saw it again. He said he didn't notice until he began working

Michael waited years to kill Carlo 😂. That level of patience and timing is terrifying in itself. That’s an underrated detail of the movie that I love.

DeNiro and Pacino never did a scene together in any movie, until Heat! They were also in the recent, The Irishman! The funniest comedy based on godfather ever, where Marlon and young Clemenza parodies himself, is the Matthew Broderick movie, the Freshman! A lot of people say, don't watch 3, it's no good. But that's a flaw because they are comparing 3, with two of the best movies ever made! Connie is the director's sister, and also related to Sophia Coppola and Nicolas Cage!!! Carlo from first movie is still alive, always mob associated, and tells in one of his books, who and why JFK RFK and Marilyn got whacked....and he's never been sued by the Kennedys!!! A mob movie DeNiro and Pesci did, that was a semiautobiographical tale by the main actor, who grew up in a small Italia neighborhood that's a MUST watch, A Bronx Tale!
John Cazale is Fredo, who's been in maybe some of the top 10 all time movies, including Dog Day Afternoon and Deer Hunter. Roth is based on a real guy , Micky Cohen. Who lived a very plain middle class life! But like Roth, pulled all mob strings. Everything bad that happened in this movie, Roth engineered behind the scenes, by innuendo and whispers! In the first movie where Sonny is screwing the woman behind the door, she gets pregnant and has his illegitimate son, who shows up in 3! And he's definitely sonny's son, his temper! Tom has a son who becomes a priest, and Michael's son is a opera singer, who wants nothing to do with the business! Connie is also Adrian, rockys wife! The singer is the real life story about frank sinatra! Before 1966, to immigrate into America, wasn't easy. U had to pass physical and mental tests, prove u have relatives here, prove u had a job or useful skills, and other things...Connie is Rocky's wife! She is a Coppola/Cage! Her husband in the first, is still alive, has been mob ties all this time, and has written books covering who killed JFK RFK and Marilyn, and why! And has never been sued by the Kennedy family! We knowost sequels arent as good as the first, and a handful are as good. This proly one of about 10 or less, where the sequel is better!And one of the funniest movies ever done is called, The Freshman! Marlon and the young partner of marlon in this, Clemenza, ( also in Good morning Vietnam, When Harry met Sally, City Slickers)basically mimic their roles, and the star is Matthew Broderick!!! And fredo was in some of the biggest movies of the 70s and early 80s with either Robert or Al. Dog Day Afternoon, the deer hunter, these two movies, and others. Everything that bad happens in this movie, is because of Roth. Simple rumor and innuendo, caused fredo, tessio, frankie, etc., to do what they did. The guy testifying in court, is Rocky's first boss! One of Frankie's asassin guys, was in Do the Right Thing, and The Professional and many other great movies. Danny Aiello. The FBI agent has been in every movie since the silent era 😅 dillinger, this, red dawn, green mile, Alien etc. Harry Dean Stanton! The difference between Vito and Michael is, vito did all decisions, and spent all his time, immediate blood family first. Michael put mob family first. Ues frankie did the hit, but based on roth telling him, Michael was going with the Rosatto brothers.When connie asked Michael to forgive Fredo and he hugged him, he was going to. But when Michael looked up and saw Neri, and Neri kind of lowered his head in disappointment, Michael knew he had to kill Fredo. Pro tip...the towel catching on fire, not planned!😮😮😮😮
For Marlon´s Brando character in this movie, Don Vito Corleone, Francis Ford Coppola put a jaw prosthesis in his mouth and a gauze, to give him that particular face. Brando was relatively young in this film, and Coppola pretended to age him and look more threatening.
"Is he like a therapist ?", in a way, maybe. I don't want to spoil the 2nd film, but there's a character in that one who uses his power to push the people around - and let's just say that Vito learned from that how NOT to do business. He has a lot of people who owe him favors.

This is one trilogy that I recommend.
Movies usually lose their rating after the first original.
These wrap up the whole story in three Movies and that's that.
No need for #5,6,....8,etc..
Italian mafia, one of the original NY gangsters.
Third one is ridiculous. The first two are a perfect, seamless, symmetrical set, made two years apart. Third is the studio (and everyone involved) doing a cash grab 20 years later in the sellout 80s/90s. It sucks, don't waste your time, it's an embarrassment. (And that's the general consensus, despite what people will tell you....only on the internet, never met a person in real life who ever said a positive word about the 3rd piece of crap.
6:42, I think Tom was not just laughing because it was funny. I think he (and Sonny) has probably been on the other end of that "Act like a man" speech from Vito.

This is an unbelievably true blending of Hollywood filmmaking & reality.
NY city was controlled by 5 families. Little-Italy was controlled by Godfather. Don Joe Columbo, who wouldn’t let them film there without script approval (*He wanted the word “Mafia” removed)
Joe Columbo was famous for Italian-American Civil Rights League. & Filled the film extras & service personal with his people. i.e. The photographer whose camera was smashed was the official photographer for Italian-American Civil Rights League. & Almost all services, catering, garbage etc. Went through Joe Columbo's Italian-American Civil Rights League members. (Play "Get money, gotta get that money" in the background & things become clear.)
Luca Brasi had a real mafia hit man past & scared everyone on set except Brando. & Luca’s fear of Brando was real, Brando scared the crap out of him.
While the hit in the revolving door was shot, a real hit was shot across town. Two hits on the same day, one real, & one filmed.
The singer is loosely based on Frank Sinatra who had a “lifetime contract” with Big Band Leader Tommy Dorsey. When Tommy Dorsey was made aware the contract would end soon & it would be ‘his’ lifetime that ends it, not Frank’s. Tommy Dorsey had a sudden change of heart & released Frank Sinatra from the contract. & The movie Frank Sinatra made was “From Here To Eternity”. His Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor” said yes, he probably was, the right man for the part.
James Caan - ’Sonny’ wanted to be a member of ‘The Family’ more than he wanted to be an actor & spent more time with them than one would recommend.
Rather than mimic the Mafia & show America how the mob lives & acts. FBI tapes of the time show just the reverse. They were taking cues from the film on proper ways to dress & behave. (Life Imitates Art)

The cat on Brando’s lap... Just wandered onto set & jumped into his lap, Brando became affectionate & they kept filming.
This film and Godfather II were both based on the same book - in my head they're two parts of the same story (and the book's not bad either). Together they're some of the best filmmaking ever done.
Part 3 isn't a bad film on its own, but it's not an essential part of the story unless you just want to see how Michael ends up.

I am with you on how gullible Kay is.
Kay isn't really that gullible, but I think she still saw Michael as the son who didn't want to inherit the family business and the guy she fell in love with and married. There were a few cut scenes that showed more of their relationship when they were both young and in love. In terms of being gullible, I think we're supposed to accept her WASP background placed her as even more of an outsider than younger Mike, and naive.
Michael told her the good lie she wanted to believe.

2:00, Vito Corleone is a gangster, a murder and a career criminal. But I totally agree with him in this instance, this mortician is mad disrespectful.
If you want someone like Don Corleone to be doing some gangsta acts on your behalf, you had best be someone he knows well. Prior to this incident this dude never wanted to even drink a cup of coffee with Vito. Now he expects to just roll up crying and expects the Don to start going ham in the streets. That is utter disrespect.
The quaiity of this film is way beyond anything we have today in terms of directing, acting, editing, framing, cinematography, everything, Well, except special effects. But that was because this had a very low budget.
